• Please wear comfortable and casual clothes

• You may bring your own lunch, or you canbuy food from any of our cafés. Please beaware, there is not a cash machine on site, so if purchasing lunch from one of ouroutlets, please bring money with you on the day

• Please ensure your school andparents/guardian sign the form at the back ofthis booklet

• Make sure you book your transport (if required) when reserving your place on the Taster Day

• For Horticulture, Horse Management, Motor Vehicle and Animal Care, sturdy shoes, wellington boots or safety boots must be worn. Trainers are not suitable.

If you are in Year 10 – 13 at school, BCATaster Days will allow you to experiencea day at the College. You will encounterhands-on practical sessions but will alsoget a feel for what being at College isreally like!

Our courses provide the opportunity to study the wide range of skills requiredin the industry that you are interested in.

If you are a mature student interested in a Taster Day, please call for more information.

TransportFREE college run transport is available toand from the campus. Please completethe Transport section of your Taster Dayapplication form.

This free service runs from many localtowns, including Maidenhead,Amersham, Aylesbury, Beaconsfield,Bourne End, Bracknell, Camberley,Gerrards Cross, Henley, High Wycombe,

Hounslow, Reading, Slough, Staines,h Tame, Uxbridge, Wallingford,

Windsor, and Wokingham.

Animal Management

Working with animals is an extremely rewardingcareer. Our courses provide the opportunity tostudy the wide range of skills required in theAnimal Care industry. There are various careeropportunities ranging from breeding andboarding kennels, catteries and pet shops, towelfare organisations, local authorities, stables,farms and veterinary surgeries. Sturdy shoes orwellington boots must be worn. For health andsafety reasons, please do not wear jewellery orhave any visible facial piercings.

Applied Science

We are lucky enough to have a dedicatedscience building on site with excellent laboratoryfacilities and learning spaces. The aim ofstudying Applied Science at BCA is to provideyou with a unique and supportive experience tohelp prepare you for science based subjects atuniversity and beyond.

Art & Design

Our Art & Design Academy provides one of themost inspiring locations for studying art that youcould wish for. We are passionate about creativityand nurturing your ability to solve problemsusing innovative ideas, material and techniques.On this Taster Day you will experience BCA as anArt & Design student; find out what a typical daywith us involves, see our fantastic facilities, meetstaff and current students and hopefully comeaway feeling inspired about a future in art ordesign related careers.

Business and Enterprise

Employers are increasingly looking forindividuals with high levels of business andeconomic awareness. We invite you to becomeone of these change makers.

Early Years

Our courses provide the opportunity to study thewide range of skills required in the ChildcareIndustries. Careers in Childcare include Supervisorin a nursery or crèche, Nursery Assistant, PrivateNanny working with a family, Pre-school/CrècheLeader and Teacher’s Assistant.

Equine

Working with horses is an extremely rewardingcareer. Our courses provide the opportunity to study the wide range of skills required in the Equine industry. We have a large indoorfloodlit arena, cross country course, stabling for over 50 horses in two modern yards andmany external events which you can get involved in. Please note that riding will not form part of the Equine Taster Day, but pleasebring sturdy shoes or safety boots. Trainers arenot suitable.

Floristry

Ever wondered how to make a bouquet, flowerarrangement or button hole? This Taster Day willshow you how to have great fun creatingbeautiful floral designs. Work created byprofessional florists include displays atweddings, funerals and exhibitions, gifts and avariety of corporate work.

Foundation Studies

Our Foundation Studies courses are for youngpeople who need support to achieve theirlearning goals. This Taster Day is for students whoare interested in Pathways Entry Level 1-3 andSteps Level 1 courses. You will be given thechance to meet staff and existing students,getting involved in lessons here at the collegeand experiencing what we can offer you.

Hair and Beauty

Our Hair and Beauty courses all take place in ourpurpose built salon. Courses aim to prepare youfor a career in your chosen subject area, coveringboth practical and theoretical aspects of thetraining involved.

Health and Social Care

Our courses provide the opportunity to study the wide range of skills required in theHealth Studies Industries. Careers in HealthStudies include nursing, midwifery, pathology,speech therapy, occupational therapy and physiotherapy.

Horticulture and Countryside

Careers in Horticulture include garden designers,private landscape gardeners, self employedgardeners and green-keepers. Careers inCountryside Management include EstateManagement and maintenance along withcareers related to conservation and theenvironment. Sturdy shoes or safety boots mustbe worn. Trainers are not suitable.

Media Production

New for 2014/15, our BTEC in Media Productionwill help you develop the commitment, skills and practical know-how to succeed in a growingand exciting industry. Come along to our TasterDay to experience BCA as if you were already aMedia Production student with us.

Become acquainted with our friendly staff and see the great facilities we have to offer but mostimportantly, try out the course that could defineyour future.

Motor Vehicle

Our courses cover various aspects of safeworking practices, safe use of tools andequipment, legal, legislative codes of practice,tool and cutting operations, component removaland refitting techniques. Experience is offeredon a wide-range of vehicles includinghorticultural, domestic and light commercialvehicles. Sturdy shoes or safety boots must beworn, trainers are not suitable. Please do notwear loose fitting clothes, and bring overalls ifyou have them.

Outdoor Education

Outdoor Education at BCA is the first step intoan exciting career in a growing industry whereyour office can be a white water river one day,and a rock face the next. Come along andexperience what we can offer you to kick start acareer in the great outdoors. Please bring yourtrainers and sports kit.

Public Services

Our courses provide the opportunity to studythe wide range of skills required in the PublicServices industries. Careers in the Public Servicesrange from Police, Fire and Ambulance services,Armed Forces, Prison and Security along with HM Customs and Excise. Please bring yourtrainers and sports kit.

Sport

Sport courses provide an ideal opportunity tostudy the wide range of skills required in theSports industries. Careers in Sport includecoaching, teaching, fitness instructing, outdoorrecreation, event management and many more.Please bring your trainers and sports kit.
