FUTURE DIRECTIONSLoyola College has stood above the rest in its approach to

education and in its pedagogies. The ways we teach and theways our students learn are unique and creative. Consistently,we never hesitated to look into our deficiencies and transformus to an efficient agent of social change. Many critics wouldconfirm that the College has substantially contributed to theprocess of National Development by providing quality educationand thereby enabling the students to become globallycompetent. We have plans and dreams in the years to come.We propose to introduce academic Audit for every departmentby external experts. This aims at regular scrutiny of the qualityof teaching and the content of teaching. This will certainly go along way in enhancing quality in education in accordance withthe objectives of the institution and in serving the society atlarge with sensitivity and commitment. We envisage, in thecoming years, an interdisciplinary research in science andsocial sciences. The college as an autonomous institution hasachieved many feats and climbed new heights. NAAC’saccreditation at A+ level and award of the college with potentialfor excellence were some of them. Sooner or later we hope tobe honoured by the UGC as a Degree Awarding College.

One of the persons, who has made a huge contribution tothe growth of the college undoubtedly, is Rev. Fr. B. Jeyaraj,Rector. Compassionate to the poor and the marginalised andcommitment to visionary leadership have shaped the collegebecome to responsive to the demands of the time. Visiting the

college one would easily become aware of the changes hecould make in the college both in terms of infrastructuralfacilities and employment of personnel for the College. As hecompletes his term as Rector we thank him for his service tothe college and wish him every best in the years to come.

In equal measure we want to thank Rev. Fr. Andrew,Secretary. He also completes his term of service. We appreciatehim for his commendable achievement. He mobilizedresources from internal sources and utilized them efficientlyfor the all round development and the growth of the institutionkeeping in mind the plans and strategies. We wish him allsuccess in the years to come.

Accompanying our students has been one of our primaryfocuses in character formation in the college. To achieve thatend, Dr. P. Sagayaraj, Dean of students, has done a splendidjob. As he completes his term we want to express our sinceregratitude for his committed service in planning, organizing andconducting Student Union activities. He has the rare distinctionof mobilizing and utilizing funds from external sourcesthroughout his term of three years. It is remarkable that hecould achieve all these in the midst of his research activities. It is worth mentioning that he has produced five PhDs in thisacademic year alone, an unenviable record indeed.

My special thanks are to Dr. J M V Kalaiarasi, Dean ofWomen Students for her excellent coordination with the Deanof Students in the successful conduct of Student Union activities. As the first Dean of Women Students, she made an indeliblemark in organizing many relevant and innovative programmesfor women empowerment. I thank for her loyal and committedservice.

The world today expects quality in every field. If we do notmonitor our progress and observe the maintenance of qualityand excellence we will be relegated to the background. In ourcollege we have made sincere effor ts to maintain quality. Inthis important work, the contribution of Prof. Joe Jesudurai issignificant. His loyalty, dedication and motivation were edifyingand inspiring to everyone who worked with him. He alwaysdemonstrated in his activities a blend of discipline andcompassion. We thank him and wish him all the best in thecoming years.

Finally, I want to thank sincerely Dr. Baldev Raj for hispresence today as the Chief Guest. I specially congratulatehim on his sustained initiatives towards improving the qualityin science education in Universities and Colleges. Weappreciate him for motivating and retaining the bright youngtalents in active scientific research.
