Examples of College and Career Readiness Definitions
Achieve: College and Career ready refers to the content-knowledge and skills high school graduates must possess in English and mathematics – including, but not limited to reading, writing, communications, teamwork, critical thinking, and problem solving – to be successful in any and all future endeavors
Kentucky – Readiness for college depends on more than English and mathematics knowledge; to be successful after high school, all graduated must possess the knowledge, habits, and skills that can come from a rigorous, rich, and well-rounded curriculum
Common Core State Standards – college readiness means that a high school graduate has the knowledge and skills in English and mathematics to be placed and succeed in entry-level, credit-bearing college courses without the need for remedial coursework
Association of Career and Technical Education – career readiness defined to include strong core academic skills that will launch students into good jobs or entry level college work without remediation and have the ability to apply academic skills in the context of the job they do; employability skills including adaptability, collaboration, and critical thinking; and technical skills that are specific to particular fields, such as those required for industry licensure or certification
