College Going Measures To determine the district’s success in

preparing students for college and careers, the following measures were utilized: Pre-College Preparation

University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU) course completion patterns

Early Assessment Program (EAP) passing rates CSU English and Math proficiency rates

Pre-College Exams Advanced Placement (AP), Preliminary SAT (PSAT), and

SAT exams Career Technical Education

Graduation rate

Page 11: College and Career Preparation

015 2007-08 College and Career Preparation 11

University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU) Course Completion

Course completion rates are measured by the number of graduated students who completed the required A-G course pattern for admission to the UC and CSU campuses.

A – G requirements include a total of 15 courses from history (2), English (4), math (3), science (2), foreign language (2), visual and performing arts (1), and college prep electives (1).

California State University (CSU) Early Assessment Program (EAP) Results

EAP is a joint venture of California public schools, the CSU and the California Department of Education.

EAP results are used to determine readiness for enrollment in college level English and math courses at CSU. Grade 11 students who pass the EAP exams are exempted from taking CSU English and/or Math placement exams.

These results identify the need for additional preparation for college-level courses and helps seniors plan coursework.

AP, PSAT, and SAT Exams

AP (Advanced Placement exam scores) can exempt students from college courses or pre-requisites in addition to providing college level credit.

PSAT measures critical reading, writing and math skills preparing students for the SAT.

SAT measures writing, math, and critical reading skills (SAT I) scores are used for college entrance and course placement, as well as specific subject areas (SAT II).
