March 30, 2016
Dear Perot Museum Friends & Supporters,
I am writing to inform you that Colleen Walker – in consultation with the Executive Committee – has decided to
step down from her position as the Perot Museum’s Eugene McDermott Chief Executive Officer. She has agreed
to remain in her current role, however, until June 30th to help ensure a smooth and seamless transition.
It is important to emphasize that this is not an outcome either Colleen or the Board had anticipated, but over
time it has become increasingly evident Colleen and the Executive Committee held different views concerning
the Museum’s strategic direction and focus. We agreed, accordingly, that a measured transition to new
leadership is warranted.
At the same time, our friends and supporters should also understand that the last two years have seen
considerable operational accomplishments and momentum, including (among others):
Building on our inaugural year momentum, more than 1 million guests have visited the Perot for each of the
past three years. More specifically, in 2015, the Perot welcomed 1.1 million visitors including more than
218,000 students during the school year.
The innovative launch of the DELL TECH Truck and the Kosmos Energy STEM Teacher Institute.
Successful implementation of new system-wide ticketing and budgeting software, and discount programs
for military, first responder families, and educators.
As for next steps, the Perot’s Board of Directors is appointing a Search Committee to be led by incoming ChairHernan Saenz. This group will be charged with overseeing a thoughtful and deliberatesearch for Colleen’s
successor, and we are confident that the Museum’s enviable status as a provocative, dynamic and leading
cultural institution should help ensure we attract highly-qualified candidates.
The Executive Committee will continue to work collaboratively with Colleen over the short-term to ensure the
Perot’s momentum continues apace, even as we look toward the future. We are equally committed to ensuring
the Perot’s friends and donors are kept informed and engaged as we move forward.
The Perot is fortunate to possess staff, donors, friends and partners who believe in our mission with enviable
passion. These assets will serve the Museum extraordinarily well in the future, and I want to express my
appreciation and gratitude on behalf of the Board and the leadership team.
If you have questions concerning today’s announcement, you may of course contact me directly at
Thank you for your ongoing support and I look forward to keeping you updated with respect to our search for a
successor in the months to come.
Sincerely,
John Jaggers, Board Chair
