DESCRIPTION

This is a presentation describing my process while designing a mobile application for my UXDi course. Collector was designed for my UXDi classmate Shamezo. I was tasked with designing a shopping application to suit his interests and meet his needs. I conducted user research and tested my early concepts with several users to gather feedback and identify issues. I created paper prototypes to test the user flow which allowed for multiple iterations.

About the Product: Collector is a mobile app for vinyl collectors that keeps track of the albums you have and tracks down albums you are looking for. Collector makes it easy to create a wish list and share it with your friends, find recommended albums based on what you have in your collection and features an in-app marketplace that curates the lowest-priced listings from a variety of sellers. !

About the Project:

Collector was designed for my UXDi classmate Shamezo. I was tasked with designing a shopping application to suit his interests and meet his needs. I conducted user research and tested my early concepts with several users to gather feedback and identify issues. I created paper prototypes to test the user flow which allowed for multiple iterations.

CASE STUDY

DESIGN RESEARCH

Method: I started the research process by getting to know more about Mezo’s interests, shopping habits and spending trends. I also asked him to map out his day and looked for moments when he shared information about his needs.

Findings: Above all, I learned that music is a huge part of his life. He spends a lot of time listening to music and looking for new artists and keeps track of albums he wants to buy on various lists. While he loves supporting his favorite artists by purchasing albums and other merchandise, he’s really rather spend as little time shopping as possible.

!Opportunities Identified: Create an easy way to keep track Mezo’s collection and help him track down albums he wants to buy. Aggregate listings and pricing from various sites in order to simplify his shopping experience.

DESIGN ITERATION | DESIGN HYPOTHESIS

ITERATION 1

Method: I tested my paper prototypes with 8 users in a participatory design session and asked them about their music listening and spending habits. I kept track of how they used the app and noted any problem areas. !Findings: Users liked the concept of pulling in prices from several sources because it would save them time and ensure that they would get the best price. Concert alerts seemed unrelated to the core purpose of the app. !Opportunities Identified: There are too many places to buy online and they are looking to find the best price. Some wanted an option to find local locations to shop for items. Navigation needed to be simplified. !!
