With over 3,000 lots sold the 3 Auctioneers on the day had to be at their very best to sell to the 700+ registered buyers who travelled to Holsworthy from as far afield as Wales, Kent, Swindon, Bristol, Wiltshire and all parts of Devon & Cornwall. SALE REPORT

~ What a fantastic day! With over 3,000 lots sold the 3 Auctioneers on the day had to be at their very best to sell to the 700+ registered buyers who travelled

to Holsworthy from as far afield as Wales, Kent, Swindon, Bristol,

Wiltshire and all parts of Devon & Cornwall. Once again, many customers stayed in Hotels, Pubs & B&B’s in the

Holsworthy area the night prior to the sale which included the Lambert

Family from Cambridge who sold 900 Trees, Shrubs & Plants following an

eventful night in the Kings Arms with Local celebrity Jethro!~

PIGS – AUCTIONEER JAMES MORRISH

Numbers tight this week however plenty of lift in the trade with the best of a nice run of medium weight sows

topping at £140 on behalf of M/S Carter of Troon near Camborne, Cornwall. The best of the breeding sows (and litters) came in from M/S JJ Transport of Truro selling the best of their young gilt & litters to £120 going to their new home near Braunton. Best of the boar pigs hit £100 from M/S Pengelly of Callington whilst the best of the stores reached £69 on behalf of Mr Smith of Dippertown near Dartmoor.

Next Pig sale at Holsworthy Livestock Market will be on Saturday 1st April 2017

494 MACHINEY (+ VAT) – AUCTIONEER JAMES MORRISH

A tremendous entry in terms of quality & quantity saw buyers ready to purchase for the home and export trade. Top call of the day was lot 92 being the Steyer 9105 tractor which powered away to £12,000 purchased by M/S Stanbury of Rydon whilst lot 117 being the John Deere 1950 hitting £8,200 on behalf of one Tiverton Farmer. Loyal Kivells supporter Mike Johns had his final dispersal sale and saw a top of £6,000 for the Valmet 705 tractor going to its new home on the edge of the Quantock Hills.

A really good entry of plant equipment saw a top call of £5,100 for the Yanmar 2tn digger on behalf of Mr Rottenbury of South Molton with other builder’s goods at £3,000 and £1,900.

A mass of agricultural machinery topped at £4,600 for the slurry tanker from M/S Broad of Barnstaple whilst the dispersal of trailers and equipment from Ted Petherick of Bradworthy, who saw a massive crowd of buyers waiting to witness the sale, saw his top call at £3,300 and £3,275 for the 2 teagle silage trailers with the

grain trailer racing away to £3,250 going to its new home near Petrockstowe. The

two 20ft bale trailers sold well at £1,850 and £1,800 whilst the Maschio (3m) hit £1,350. On behalf of Kivells I would like to wish Ted and his family a very happy retirement and look forward to seeing them at Holsworthy Market from time to time.

10 vans and pickup trucks saw a 90% clearance with a top call of £4,850 for the L200 pick up from Roger & Gill Morrish of Torrington with others in from Killatree vehicles at £4,000.

Over 3,000 Spanish & Brazilian roofing slates went under the hammer on behalf of one vendor from South Devon and topped at £280 for a pallet of 500 x 200 roofing slate with others at £250 and £220.

Other interesting lots included the 1978 David Brown tractor from M/S Retallic at £1,500 whilst the ‘aged’ Rotavator from M/S Mansfield raced away to £450.

200 NEW HAND TOOLS – AUCTIONEER PHILIP WALTER

A quality entry of new tools on behalf of Rural Excess of Chepstow saw plenty of trade with a top call of £140 for the

14” Husqvarna chainsaw with another one at £130. The best of the new tractor seats hit £60 and the underbody chest hit £68 lots of grease guns and tools between £25-£40 with a line-up of cast iron animals between £32-£47. 841 MACHINERY (NON VAT) – AUCTIONEER DAVID C KIVELL & PHILIP WALTER

A massive entry of 841 lots of machinery and goods (non-vat) saw a top call of £3,000 for the 2004 Nissan pickup on behalf of Clive Armstrong of Torrington closely followed by lot 916 being the Iseki Estate tractor on behalf of M/S Hendry of Bude at £2,050 with the other Iseki from the same good farm at £2,000. M/S Young sold their vintage tractor at £1,850 going to its new home in Lesnewth, Cornwall. Plenty of granite at today’s sale topped at £420 for a 1st quality trough in from the Shakespeare family. Amongst the more unusual lots was the 1941 T20 tractor which had been in a barn and not started for over 25 years, sold as a non-runner, after several bidders competed it went back down to North Cornwall with the Braund Family at £280.

Over 300 lawn mowers, strimmers and hedge blades sold on the day with the very best to £700 and plenty between £100-£150 whilst the best of the small ‘toppers’ hit £300 on behalf of M/S Knott. A mass consignment of Wooden posts from Antony Parkhouse of Winkleigh sold away well with his best at £60 with other lots between £30-£50. 19 vans & cars went under the hammer in the non-vat section with the best at £400 for the Mitsubishi pick up (no MOT) from Paul Tythcott of Instow.

FRUIT TREES, PLANTS, SHRUBS & HEDGING – AUCTIONEER DAVID C KIVELL

A superb entry of fruit trees, shrubs, plants and garden effects saw plenty of interest with buyers travelling from far and wide to include Exmoor, Plymouth and Bodmin to purchase. Mike Lambert and his team from Cambridgeshire presented a wonderful array of goods from their Nursery and topped at £50 for the best of the fruit trees and £39 for the pick of the flowering plants.

Next Plant sale will be on Saturday 1st April 2017

with over 900 lots! Sale time approx. 12 noon.

Ewe & Lambs at £148 and the in-lamb ewes at £80.
