HISTORY SAN JOSÉ CONTINUES TO BRING LOCAL HISTORY ALIVE!

24,000 elementary school children were immersed in local history as they participated in 537 interactive programs at History Park and the Peralta Adobe-Fallon House Historic Site. 150 schools were served in 19 of the 21 school districts.

6 brand new public events debuted: the Printer’s Fair & Wayzgoose partnering with the Printers Guild; The Immigrant Experience partnering with Silicon Valley Reads; the TET Festival: Passport to Vietnam; Silicon Valley Bikes Festival & Bicycle Show; Jewish Time Travel partnering with Congregation Beth David; and the 1st San José Mini Maker Faire partnering with MAKE magazine. These events were attended by more than 11,000 guests – most new to History Park!

Tomatoes to tacos – serving more than 20,000 guests, HSJ hosted the now annual Master Gardeners of Santa Clara County’s 21st Spring Garden Market; the Taco Festival of Innovation; Dia de Portugal Festival partnering with the Portuguese Heritage Society of California; El Dia de San Juan Festival; and Keep the Spirit of ‘45 Alive event.

History Park was a destination for more than 6,000 car enthusiasts showcasing the VW Car Show, Bombs United Car Show, Viejitos Car Show and Antique Automobiles with the Santa Clara Valley Model T Ford Club.

What do you want to see? Staff and interns surveyed visitors at six different family events and we sent a survey to our Members and friends to better understand how to serve you.

NOW SERVING THE WORLD!

Community Curators worked with staff to create 4 new public exhibitions featuring artifacts from HSJ collections: Shirlie Montgomery: Picturing San José Since 1938; Silicon Valley Bikes: Passion, Innovation & Politics Since 1880; Slugs, Dingbats and Tramp Printers! Printing in Santa Clara Valley; and The Wireless Age: Electronics Entrepreneurs Before Silicon Valley.

We have an app! We created a new mobile application for Android launched through Google Cultural Institute that features HSJs online exhibits and mobile tours.

Our collections went virtual! Five new online exhibits were created in Google Cultural Institute; and the interiors of 12 History Park buildings are scanned and now available online through Google StreetView and Google Cultural Institute.
