Project Description
Challange:
The manufacturing environment has become increasingly complex. Due to the enlarged
freedom of action, a focus shift from optimization of existing machinery towards foresighted
purchase of manufacturing facilities can be observed. The challenge is to configure machine
tools according to customers’ needs in order to prevent mismatch of functionalities, incorrect
dimensioning, wasteful operation and poor integration into the manufacturing environment
before problem-appearance.
These issues cause an increase in costs (investment costs, running costs, upgrade costs, …),
energy consumption (fixed energy consumption, non-value adding energy, …) and emissions
that shall be counteracted by the EU framework program for research and innovation ”Horizon
2020”.
Task:
The collaboration aims at the development of a tool box (roadmap, guidelines, models, etc. …)
for machine tool configuration and integration into the manufacturing environment. Following
main issues shall be addressed:
– Mismatch of functionalities
– Poor integration into the factory environment
– Incorrect dimensioning (oversizing/undersizing)
– Wasteful operation
