^ Brief Description of Wrestling1. Wrestling Is an individual sport that helps develop individual initiative,

mental alertness, physical toughness, courage and physical efficiency tocarry on.

2. The object of wrestling is to hold your opponent's shoulders to the matfor two seconds. To do this, it will include taking your opponent fromhis feet to the mat, turning him on his back and holding him there whilehe is resisting with his fullest capacities.

3. The fine part of wrestling competition is thct individuals are competingagainst opponents of the same weight. That gives everyone opportunityto learn and wrestle to the best of his ability.

Definition of Wrestling Terms

Defensive wrestling - The wrestler who is on the bottom when both wrestlers

are off their feet.

Offensive Wrestling - The wrestler who is in the top position when bothwrestlers are on the mat.

Control —— —- Where one wrestler has the advantage in the down position.

Take Down — — Whenever a contestant brings his opponent to the mat andgains control while the supporting parts of either wrestlerare in bounds.

Escape —-— —- Occurs when a defensive wrestler comes from underneath to

a neutral position.

Reversal —— ™ Occurs when a defensive wrestler comes from underneath

and gains control.

Fall part of both shoulders held in contact with the matfor a period of two full seconds.

Near Fall — a situation where an offensive wrestler has control of

his opponent in a pinning situation and both shoulders are held

within two inches of the mat for a period fall of two seconds.' I

Predicament « A position where an offensive man has his man in a pinningcombination and a fall or near fall is imminent.

Illegal Holds A one point penalty.
