A Caring Community of Learners / Une communauté dévouée d’apprenants
We remain hopeful that at some point, Spring will arrive!
We want to congratulate 2 of our grade 4 students for their achievement in the Concours d’Art Or-
atoire in April. Mia C and Noah M both received gold as they presented their speeches with stu-
dents from other early years French Immersion schools in our division.
École Centrale parents have always had the reputation of being devoted, active, and positive. Our
parents volunteer in the classroom, and around the school, preparing materials for teachers,
reading to the students in English, helping on field trips and at special events. Our school is very
lucky to receive such community support. It is hugely appreciated. The financial support of our
parents is also felt throughout the school year, with fundraising dollars supporting agenda pur-
chases, and supporting students through donations to the Music program, the Physical Education
program, year-end field trips, and much more. Oftentimes field trips are made possible especially
with PAC support in paying for the buses. Thank you! Thank you!
As we already look towards next year, we invite our newly enrolled 2019-2020 Kindergarten stu-
dents and their parents to our annual Kindergarten orientation on Thursday, May 16th from 6:00 to
7:30 p.m. We will meet in the gymnasium at 6pm for a brief introduction. Then students and their
parents will have an opportunity to rotate through activities in pre-arranged classroom groups.
They will experience a French Physical Education and Music activity, a calendar activity in the
Kindergarten classroom, and will receive an activity bag and snack in the library. We ask that par-
ents only bring their kindergarten child as there is no provision for child care.
We also invite all volunteers to join us the afternoon of Friday May 31 for a special Volunteer Ap-
preciation assembly and tea. The assembly will begin in the gym at 1:00 p.m. followed by a re-
ception in the library. The library will be open to volunteers until dismissal time
at 3p.m. We look forward to seeing you there!
As always, any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to call.
Mme Dudar
Mme Bailey

Music is important because….. Music students are constantly using their memory to perform. The skill of memorization can serve stu-dents well in education and beyond. Stan Lesk, a great Canadian actor, visited our school and he will be returning to work with our stu-dents on May 9th, 10th, 23rd, and 24th. Mr Lesk works on drama skills with all our students which en-hances their creativity and builds social skills such as teamwork and cooperation. Our grade 3 and 4 choir will be singing for our final time this year at the Volunteer Tea on May 31st. Happy Spring!!! Mme R. Lawrence-Brown Music Teacher

Mme Stein’s Class
Mme Stein’s class had lots of fun learning about bugs this month. Take a look at the
chart below to see the evolution of the Super worm and moth.
In April, we wrapped up our Technology Club for the
year. The Grade 1s had a chance to try the VR gog-
gles and the Merge Cube games/activities. Some of
the VR games/activities included a virtual campfire, a
virtual kaleidoscope, learning about the human body
virtually, playing Pirate Island where you hunt for
treasure, playing Piranha where you eat as much su-
shi as you find, and many other games. The Grade 1s
were also introduced to the LittleBits pieces and
learned about circuits, (LittleBits are modular snap-
together bits that students used to explore buzzers,
lights and switches) then they used the pieces to
build a tickle machine and a car! Very cool!
We also had Grade 3s come to learn about
the Micro:bit, which is a tiny microchip.
Students learned to code the Micro:bit us-
ing a block coding system simply by drag-
ging the blocks needed into the workspace
and then snapping them together! Stu-
dents learned how to display a message,
create an animation, create music, down-
load their programs onto the Micro:bit,
and have it play to their headphones using
alligator clips! Some students even
learned how to send messages to each
other via Micro:bit! Wow! Great job! In
May, we will be choosing and training our
Grade 3s to be our future Tech Mentors
for next year!

KEEP ACTIVE M Gilles Boulley
Mme Lisa Gosselin Physical Education Teachers
• During the month of May, students in Kindergarten and grade 2 will be going outside and play-ing playground games that they can play at recess. Students will be working on their skipping rope skills. We will continue with the striking activities such as T-ball. We will also continue prac-ticing our Folk Dances in preparation for the Divisional Folk Dance event.
• Students in grades 3 and 4 will be presenting the folk dance that they created in
their group, playing Ultimate (a frisbee game), and playing soccer.
• Grade 1 and 2 students will be having fun dancing in a park setting on May 22 with a rain date of May 28 at East Kildonan Centennial park. More details will be sent home soon.
• The Club de Duathlon is continuing as per schedule. Students are training to race in a duathlon or a triathlon in June.
• Club de Course – Students from grades 1 to 4 will be invited to participate in a running
club. Grades 1 and 2 will be running together in the school yard with Mme Lawrence-Brown and Mme Stein. Grades 3 and 4 will be running in the school yard and in Kern park with Mme Lisa. The clubs will be starting mid-May, weather permitting.
• Our grade 4 students will be participating in a Ultimate/Soccer day with École Margaret Underhill which will take place at École Centrale in Kern Park on June 19 with no alterna-tive date scheduled due to time constraints.
• With the nice weather, students are forgetting to have a t-shirt for gym to change into as well as having proper and clean indoor footwear for the gym. So please help your child have these items for Physical Education classes when they are inside. I also would like to see students have proper footwear for running outdoors during our classes and clubs.
