Generally I prefer to ask others to write thisintroduction – usually thoseworking or involved in the arts in Colchester.

Let’s be honest, there are plentyof people to choose from, but Ithought this was a goodopportunity to personally say weare really lucky to have so much creativity in the area.

This is the main reason I feelOpen Studios is such animportant event and philosophyfor local artists.

For some of you this may be thefirst time you have come acrossCaTOS, for others it will be afamiliar and welcome event inthe annual calendar. Now in its18th year it is hard to think of atime when Open Studios did notplay a role in the artisticcalendar of the region. It notonly gives opportunity for artiststo present their commitment totheir practice as well as broadentheir own opportunities, but alsogives the public that rareopportunity of insight andengagement with the coal faceof artistic practice.
