Master saxophonists Tia Fuller and Don Braden will headline the April 4, 2020 festival. Rounding out the bill is the exciting Wynton Marsalis and Cécile McLorin Salvant sidewoman Alexa Tarantino and smooth jazz, Apollo Theatre Competition winner Brittany Turnipseed. We are very excited to partner with the Richland Library on the inaugural ColaJazz Festival Family Day! One of ColaJazz’s missions is to introduce young people to Jazz and teach them the values inherent in the music such as working well with others, listening, communicating, self-improvement, self-empowerment, patience, diligence and being curious about the different.

We are offering these sessions FREE to the public!

10:30a-Noon ColaJazz: Baby Bop Jazz & Beyond (for families) Bring the whole family for jazz stories and songs with a live jazz band performance! Learn about the different instruments that help create the jazz sound and even participate with call-and-response.3p-4p ColaJazz: Beat the Blues! (for ages 9-12)Dive into the swinging sounds of the blues with a live band performance! Learn about blues history, form and even write your own blues lyrics to be performed live. This class is based on Jazz at Lincoln Center After-School Curriculum.

Braden is the proud recipient of a Doris Duke Foundation Jazz composition grant.9:30p Tia FullerTia Fuller is a GRAMMY-nominated saxophonist winning JazzTimes Jazz Critics Poll for best alto saxophonist (2018) and Downbeat Critic’s Poll “Rising Star” two years in a row (2013 & 2014). Fuller was appointed as the 2018 Artist-in-Residence at the Monterey Jazz Festival in Monterey, CA and is a full-time professor at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. Fuller also tours extensively with pop icon Beyoncé!
