whose missions complement its own: The Coeur d’Alene Arts and Culture Alliance, the Downtown Association, The North Idaho Centennial Trail Foundation and the CDA 2030 Visioning Project.

The Chamber offices and the Coeur d’Alene Visitors Center are strategically located near the heart of downtown Coeur d’Alene, across from Independence Point and City Beach. This architec-turally unique building was built in 2007 and caters to approximately 30,000 visitors each year.

Today’s Chamber of Commerce is the essential business organization providing visionary leadership to the community and its members, and pro-duces numerous events, workshops, sporting events and community cel-ebrations throughout the year. Some of the more notable events include Ironman Coeur d’Alene, Fourth of

July Fireworks Celebration, Upbeat Breakfast, Business After Hours, Coeur d’Alene Triathlon/Duathlon and Scenic Sprint, Aw$um Auction, the Wooden Boat Show, and its own Annual Luncheon.

The organization’s weekly newsletter “This Week”, its web-site, and social media presence on Facebook and Twitter affords it to be the collective voice of its members. The Cham-ber actively represents Coeur d’Alene’s business interests at the city, county, state and national levels of government.

In 1912, a group of businessmen called the ‘Commercial Club’ held a series of meetings focused on creating an organization with a serious approach to attracting and

creating business opportunities for their growing community. The most important meeting was held aboard the steam-boat Colfax on Lake Coeur d’Alene. Mixing business with the pleasure of this scenic ride resulted in the formation of the Coeur d’Alene Chamber of Commerce. One hundred and one years later, the Chamber is pleased to carry on the tradition of combining business with pleasure by creating and producing an array of community events for the benefit of the region’s citizens, and the Coeur d’Alene business community.

The Coeur d’Alene Chamber of Com-merce’s mission is to promote, support, and advocate for its members so as to strengthen the local economy. It is a membership driven nonprofit organiza-tion governed by a volunteer board of directors. There are nine paid employees; operating costs are funded through membership dues, donations, grants, sponsorships, and event revenue. Thank you Coeur d’Alene Chamber of Commerce members, Board, staff, and volunteers for an exceptional year. We should all be proud of our Chamber’s accom-plishments and opportunities created over the last 12 months. As our great Chamber turned 100 years old in September 2012, several goals were established for 2013. I am proud to confirm that we have met and exceeded these goals.

Our Chamber has been, and continues to be, a visionary leader. A great example is our participation and leadership role with the Vision 2030 project to create a new vision for our community’s future. The Chamber has not only served as the fiscal agent of the project, but we have provided extensive logistical assistance and leadership in the process. We are honored and excited to be partnered with wonderful organizations such as the University of Idaho, City of Coeur d’Alene, North Idaho College, and many others committed to this exciting project.

Our drive to promote economic development was focused and successful. We maintained strong support and assistance to Jobs Plus and the Lake City Development Corporation. We continued to develop our successful partnership alliances with the Downtown Association, Arts and Culture Alliance, and North Idaho Trail Foundation. Through collective efforts with Jobs Plus and KMPO, we have formed a new connection with Port Alberta of Edmonton to discuss and create trade opportunities for our local businesses.

The value we have added to our membership is impressive. We provided our Chamber members with 38 networking opportunities to promote their products and services. Our Chamber offered a Women’s Conference and “Prepare to Get a Job” seminar. We partnered on a freight mobility conference and successfully implemented a half million dollar tourism marketing campaign for the benefit of our local businesses. We also entered into an agreement with Idaho Chamber Select to provide new health insurance options for our members through a private online exchange to be available next year.

Our involvement with public policy and addressing common issues was extensive. Our Chamber partnered with the Realtors and Home Builders Associations to conduct an Urban Land Use Code forum that brought all parties together in a meaningful dialogue. As a result, comments from the forum have helped shape the direction of the ULUC process. Several other forums addressing important issues were hosted by the Chamber such as our “Education and the Economy” forum. Our role in public policy has always been significant, and again this year we met with our local, state, and Washington, D.C. representatives to address our most important issues. We are a strong and powerful voice for our members.

The Chamber’s programs, events, and promotion of our city have been excellent. We sponsored or operated several key Coeur d’Alene events including Ironman, the 4th of July parade and fireworks, the Coeur d’Alene Triathlon, the inaugural Stand Up Paddle Board festival, and three golf tournaments. We hope you attended and enjoyed many of these excellent events our Chamber hosted this year.

It has been an honor to be your Chamber’s Board Chairman this year. I am truly amazed by our organization’s outreach and impact on our community. The credit belongs to our dedicated and passionate staff, CEO, and volunteers. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of such an enjoyable, exciting, and successful year.

I wish Heather Wichman, our incoming Chair, all the very best in this upcoming year. She will be a strong leader as she guides our Chamber to new heights and accomplishments. Our future is very bright.

Sincerely,

Ryan Nipp2012 - 2013 Chairman of the BoardCoeur d’Alene Chamber of Commerce

ProgrAMs And events101stAnnualLuncheonThis is the Chamber’s annual celebration of our successes of the past year, as well as a look forward at the challenges to come. The luncheon meeting includes installments of new officers, thanks to our outgoing officers and board members, and recognition of the Citizen of the Year and the Ed Abbott Volunteer of the Year awards.

AfterHoursBusinessFairThe After Hours Business Fair is Coeur d’Alene’s largest business gathering and networking opportunity. The Fair is organized by the Chamber each February and is always sold out with over 125 businesses marketing themselves to over 3,000 attendees.

Aw$umAuctionThe Aw$um Auction is one of the Chamber’s major fund-raisers, the proceeds from which support other committee activities and programs. It’s an exciting event for all involved and is produced by the Chamber’s Commodores.

BusinessAfterHoursBusiness After Hours, held on the fourth Thursday of every month, is a networking event that provides an opportunity for members to show off their offices or facilities. Food and beverages are provided by the sponsor business. There are drawings for door prizes. This is a great way to meet other Chamber members in a more casual “after work” atmosphere.

Coffee&ContactsCoffee and Contacts is a powerful speed-networking opportunity, designed to give you one-on-one time with other Chamber businesses. Held quarterly, it is a fun way for businesses to meet each other while learning networking tips and how to promote company messages.

CommunityEventsThe Chamber of Commerce is directly involved in hosting numerous events that benefit our community, including the 4th of July Fireworks, Festival and Parade, and Ironman Coeur d’Alene.

LeadershipProgramsThis year the Chamber graduated its 29th class from Leadership Coeur d’Alene and donated funds to the Toni Sayler Scholarship, area nonprofits, and over 1,000 volunteers. Leadership also organized the Executive Round Table to provide training and executive support for our Members.

WoodenBoatShow&StandUpPaddleBoardFestivalFor a community located on the shores of one of the most spectacular lakes in the Pacific Northwest, festivals and celebrations that capture the essence of living on the lake are an important part of Chamber events. It’s no wonder that the International Antique and Classic Boat Society has repeatedly chosen Coeur d’Alene for their annual gathering. This year, the Chamber launched its 1st Annual SUP Competition in support of the ACBS event. We usually hold our own Wooden Boat Show which continues to be one of the most popular summer attractions to the lake.

HardHats,Hammers&HotDogs(H-4)The Workforce Development Task Force H-4 is a hands-on con-struction and manufacturing fair for over 600 junior and senior high school students. This fair introduces students to careers in those industries, and allows them to practice the skills that would be performed on the job.

SportingEventsThe Coeur d’Alene Convention and Visitors Bureau has helped make Coeur d’Alene the ultimate destination for sporting events. Ironman Coeur d’Alene celebrated its 11th successful Ironman Triathlon, while the Coeur d’Alene Triathlon and Duathlon registered 844 athletes for its 30th annual event and introduced a new Sprint distance race. More than 2,000 athletes, participated in the Coeur d’Alene Marathon held on Memorial Day weekend, and the Coeur D’Fondo registered 1,055 athletes for its 2nd annual ride/race.

UpbeatBreakfastThe Chamber organizes the Upbeat Breakfast as a monthly mo-tivational meeting that feeds the mind, keeps our Members posi-tive, and provides them a forum to promote their businesses. Up-beat Breakfast occurs the second Tuesday of every month. On average 150 members attend, making it one of the most popular networking events in our community.

WorkshopsandSeminarsUsing feedback from our Membership, the Chamber offers several workshops and seminars on a variety of topics that are exclusive to our Members during the year. In 2013 we held our 2nd Annual Women Creating Success Conference which was attended by 200 participants. Speakers for the 2013 all-day conference were: Ellen Travolta, Linda Davis, Katie Brodie, Ginny Campbell, Katherine Coppock, Vicki Isakson, Kerri Thoreson, Cindy Leaver, and Susan Hagen Nipp.

LegislativeAffairsIn a continued effort to speak as one voice for our business community, the Chamber sent community leaders to Washington D.C., along with the Spokane Chamber, to meet with officials and voice issues and concerns relative to our area. In addition, the Chamber hosted several public candidates forums throughout the year, including the Legislative Summit and Public forums for the new ACA Insurance Exchange.

MemberandCommunityPromotionChamber Members are promoted through our website, Annual Business Directory, Visitors Center and more. Over 33,000 people come through our building each year, giving our Members exclu-sive access to that market. The Chamber Commodores travel to communities in Idaho, Washington, Montana, and Canada, promoting Coeur d’Alene with the Commodores’ float, which has placed first in several parades in the last year.

PublicPolicyEventsOne of the Chamber’s key strategic objectives is to represent the Coeur d’Alene area business community in local, regional, state and federal legislative issues. This is done primarily by the Chamber’s Public Policy Committee, which this year organized a Legislative Welcome Back, as well as Coeur d’Alene Day at the Legislature. The Public Policy Committee meets weekly via con-ference call with our North Idaho Legislators to monitor legislative progress on Chamber positions and issues.

This coming year, I challenge each of you to take a good look into the doors of the Chamber and ask yourself a couple of questions. How are you utilizing your membership? What does the Chamber of Commerce do for you and your business? What Chamber sponsored events do you find beneficial or attend? Do you realize the huge impact the Coeur d’ Alene Chamber has on our community?

The Chamber has an incredible staff that supports all the moving pieces, but to keep all that the chamber has going on each day it takes a lot of volunteers and a strong membership base. You, the membership are the driving force in the success of our Chamber. I invite you to get involved and take that opportunity for a voice in the largest organization that supports and advocates for businesses and our community as a whole.

This year we will continue to focus on the Chamber’s core values. We will provide visionary leadership in our community through our active involvement and partnership with Vision 2030. We will promote economic development,

address issues that affect our business community and provide programs and events that promote our city so that we’re able to add value to you, our members.

After serving on the board for the past 6 years, I feel privileged with the opportunity to be the Chairman of the Board this coming year. I look forward to working along side another group of individuals and the Chamber staff who are so committed year after year to the success of Coeur d’ Alene and our business community. I look forward to meeting and getting to know more of the members. I intend to work alongside you, to provide a listening ear and give my commitment to build upon a successful future for you, your business, Coeur d’Alene and the community we are so blessed to call home.

Warm Regards,
