Overview

This document explains how to properly install the Codonics Safe Label System™ SLS 500i™ shelf with storage compartment onto an Omnicell Anesthesia Workstation G3 (AWS).

Tools Needed for All Installations◆ 5/16-in. nut driver

◆ Phillips head screwdriver

◆ 1/8-in. hex wrench

◆ 3/32-in. hex wrench

Parts ListThe SLS shelf includes the parts listed in the following table.

Location of the ShelfThe shelf will be located on the right side of the AWS, as shown in the following figure.

Installing the SLS 500i Shelf1. Verify that there are no other accessories attached to the

right side of the AWS which might interfere with the Codonics shelf. The shelf will be installed on the right side of the AWS and will extend approximately 16 in. (40 cm) below the top work surface.

2. On the lower support rail, fully loosen but do not remove the two Phillips flat-head screws shown in the following figure.

Part Part No. Qty.Installation instructions N/A 1Shelf/drawer assembly N/A 1Drawer keys 850-140-001 2Upper support rail 571-274-XXX 1Lower support rail 571-275-XXX 1Shelf support bracket 500-720-XXX 1Thumbscrews 550-392-XXX 2

NOTE: The Codonics shelf is not compatible when the optional AWS side table is installed. If the AWS side table is installed on the AWS, please have an Omnicell employee or a trained biomed remove the table and install the alternate mounting rails before installing the Codonics shelf.

NOTE: The Codonics shelf is compatible with a G4 AWS when the optional AWS IV pole is not installed.

NOTE: The drawer keys are common for all drawers.

3. Assemble the lower support rail to the AWS by rotating the rail into the slots, as shown in the following figure. Position the lower support rail approximately 16 in. (40 cm) below the intended height of the shelf.

4. Use a 1/8-in. hex wrench to loosely tighten the top two set screws, shown in the following figure.

Note that the mounting flange of the AWS is trapped between the aluminum block and metal rail on the right side, as shown in the following figure.

5. On the upper support rail, fully loosen but do not remove the two Phillips flat-head screws shown in the following figure.

6. Assemble the upper support rail to the AWS by rotating the rail into the slots. The top of the upper support rail will align with the top of the shelf, as shown in the following figure. Raise or lower the upper support rail to the desired shelf height, then use a 1/8-in. hex wrench to tighten the four set screws. Tighten the two Phillips flat-head screws. Note that the mounting flange of the AWS is trapped between the aluminum block and metal rail on the right side.

NOTE: The set screws are pointed, so do not tighten them until the final position of the lower support rail has been determined.

7. Remove the acorn nut, shown in the following figure, from the bottom of the shelf that is closest to the side where the shelf frame mounts to the upper support rail. Set it aside for use in step 10 of the installation procedure.

8. Slide the shelf onto the upper support rail. This is done by tilting the shelf into the slots on the upper support rail (as shown in the first figure below) and then pushing down on the shelf until it clicks into place (as shown in the second figure below).

9. Make sure that the shelf is level front-to-back. If the shelf is not level, loosen the four set screws on the upper support rail to adjust it.

10. Install the acorn nut that was removed in step 7 back onto the bottom of the shelf, and tighten the acorn nut using a 5/16-in. nut driver, as shown in the following figure.

11. Remove the two acorn nuts, shown in the following figure, from the threaded studs on the bottom of the shelf opposite the shelf rail. Set them aside for use in step 17 of the installation procedure.

12. Remove the two acorn nuts from the lower support rail. Mount the shelf support bracket to the lower support rail using the acorn nuts. Loosely tighten the acorn nuts.

13. Loosen the top two set screws securing the lower support bracket to the cart.

NOTE: When the shelf installation is complete, verify that the shelf is level right-to-left after 500i has been placed on the shelf. Refer to “Mounting the SLS 500i to the Shelf,” shown later in this technical brief.

NOTE: The nut driver can mark the paint.

14. Slide the lower support rail up so that the shelf support bracket holes align with the two threaded studs on the bottom of the shelf, as shown in the following figure.

15. Once the shelf support bracket is aligned with the lower support rail and the shelf, remove the shelf support bracket. Set the acorn nuts aside for use in step 17 of the installation procedure. Use a 1/8-in. hex wrench to tighten the four set screws, shown in the following figure, on the lower support rail.

16. Verify that the shelf support bracket still fits, then tighten the two Phillips flat-head screws, shown in the following figure, on the lower support rail.

17. Attach the shelf support bracket to the lower support rail and the shelf using the four acorn nuts that you removed in step 11 and step 15, as shown in the following figure. Tighten the nuts using a 5/16-in. nut driver.

Mounting the SLS 500i to the Shelf1. Place the 500i onto the shelf.

2. Make sure that the shelf is still level right-to-left with 500i on it. If necessary, remove 500i and use the three set screws on the shelf rail to readjust the level of the shelf.

3. Open the drawer and look up from the bottom of the shelf frame. Adjust the position of 500i until you see two threaded holes on the bottom of 500i aligned with the two cutouts in the shelf frame, shown in the first figure below. A close-up of one of 500i threaded holes as seen through the cutout in the shelf frame is shown in the second figure below.

4. Insert two thumbscrews into the threaded holes and tighten them so that 500i is mounted to the shelf.
