SETTINGS Indie videos are known to be low budget, as

there target audience can relate to them Typical settings are: Studios, houses, stages, cities, parks,

woods, streets and basement.- The audience can relate to these settings,

and they help to portray the narrative

NARRATIVE Usually there is a narrative in the music

video which links directly to the songs lyrics. This tells the audience a story, and engages them. Songs in this genre are often about partying, relationships and drinking- this is because they are all things which their target audience can relate to.

PERFORMANCE Most indie-pop music videos include a

performance element in their videos. This makes the audience look at the artist as star, and someone who the target audience can idolise.

Live performances are also included; this helps to promote a band and show the target audience the atmosphere which they create.

A performance side to the video is often embedded in the narrative

MISE-EN-SCENE Props- In an indie-pop music video, there will

often be everyday props which are cheap and the audience are familiar with. Props may also help to tell the narrative.

Costume- The costume for indie-pop music videos will depend on the current trend. The indie genre always put a slight twist on the current trend; normally adding a more vintage edge.

Makeup is also worn to add to the overall appearance of the star

CAMERA WORK There are lot of extreme/ close ups of the artist- this

shows who the artist is and helps to express their emotions to the audience.

-It is also typical in indie-pop music videos to have a lot of close ups, in different angles of the instruments. Instruments and the music play a huge part to the young target audience

Long shots and establishing shots are used to show the location; this helps to portray the narrative. Long shots are also often used to show the artist/band as a whole, perhaps performing.

High angled and low angled shots are used to show the artists vulnerability or to show their power.

Mid shots are usually used when the artist is performing or showing the narrative.

EDITING Filters are used throughout indie-pop

music videos to portray different atmosphere. A deeply contrasted filter is usually used, or a black and white one- This makes it look very vintage and it makes it look really ‘edgy’, this connotes the indie genre. Sometimes a blurry effect is used, this makes it seem bad quality- as if the target audience was drunk or on drugs

The editing is normally done to the beat of the music; this make it more engaging and exciting to the target audience. These are normally fast, clean cuts
