Codes and Conventions Of A Radio Advert

Codes and Conventions Of A Radio AdvertBy Adam WareingI have researched and analysed the codes and conventions by viewing professional radio adverts to learn how to ensure my groups advertisement remains conventional. This should then lead it to being successful at its purpose to attract an audience to watch our documentary.

Special Needs Pets Channel 4

The voiceover in the advert speaks over the top of a music bed to introduce the topic of the documentary and gather interest.

The music bed relates, either in theme or in mood, to the exposition of the documentary. Such as the serine music is example two.

The voiceover states the name of the documentary and what day, time and channel it is on. Such as special needs pets Thursday at 9 in example one. This reminds the audience of when to tune in, if the preceding part of the advert has been successful in gaining intrigue in the exposition

The voiceover speaks in standard but simple English so that all types of audiences can understand and, therefore, gain an interest. Such as the two males in both one and two and the female in one.

The adverts use sounds affects such as the horn used in example one to add dramatic effect or, in this case, induce humour to support the exposition.

Special Needs Pets Channel 4

The same narrator is used for the documentary as is used for the advert to induce synergy.

Footage from the documentary is used such as interview footage to demonstrate the issues it will tackle and the exposition it poses such as the strength of owner/pet relationships.

The length of the advert ranges from 20-40 seconds. They dont give too much of the documentary away but are long enough, to the producer, to develop interest in the subject.
