The Codes Administration Division strives to protect the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of Leawood through education, accurate plan reviews
and inspections, reasonable code interpretations, and timely responses to permit issuance, inspections, and inquiries.

Fostering a quality working relationship between the remodeling contractors, home builders, design professionals and the City of Leawood is highly important to the City of Leawood Codes Administration Division. To further this relationship this newsletter will be sent out periodically to convey information to remodeling contractors and home builders regarding applications, construction codes and policies and procedures. The information provided is not a complete list of all code issues associated with each individual item. For more in depth information please consult the Building Official and review the codes and adopted ordinances. Contractors attending builders meetings will be on the distribution list. Building Safety Month The month of May has been designated “Building Safety Month” by the International Code Council Foundation (ICCF). If you are interested in providing input as to how the City can best promote this event, please contact Dave Hendrix at (913) 339-6700, ext. 175 or [email protected]. Johnson County Contractor Licensing Reminder… There is now a license category for framing contractors, DW. This license will be required for all rough carpentry crews. If you are a general contractor, utilizing a framing crew, the crew will be required to possess a DW license. Building Permit Numbers The chart below represents the total number of permits issued by month for 2009, 2010 and 2011. As you can see, 2010 was much better than 2009. The bad weather put us off to a slower start for 2011, but we have picked up in March.
