Export from Radio (1) Open the code plug in Connect Systems

CPS and export the current contact list as

described in the following 2 slides:

From the “Tools” tab on the CPS control

bar, in the “Tools” drop down menu, Click

“Export Digital Contact”.

Page 5: Code Plug Management: Contact List Import/Export …papasys.com/dmr/resources/DATA/docs/CS750_Contact_List_Mgt... · Code Plug Management: Contact List Import/Export Version 1.0,

Export from Radio (2) Select an appropriate location and

filename and save the file:

Here I have chosen the file name:

“Contacts_20151214” in a directory

called “Code Plugs_CX750”. Yours can

be different, just remember the name

and location.

Click “Save”, wait a bit for the operation

To complete at which time you should

see the pop-up below:

Export from Radio (3) Navigate to the file you just saved and

open it in Excel.

Once you open the exported file, you will see

5 columns, A through E with titles: No, Call

Alias, Call Type, Call ID and Receive Tone,

as shown here (your contact list will be

different).

Updating Contacts (1) Select the first 5 columns and run “Auto Fit

Column Width”

Select all columns and click “Auto Fit

Column Width” This makes things a bit

easier to keep track of and work with.

Page 8: Code Plug Management: Contact List Import/Export …papasys.com/dmr/resources/DATA/docs/CS750_Contact_List_Mgt... · Code Plug Management: Contact List Import/Export Version 1.0,

Updating Contacts (2) Select the column labeled “Call Type” (C)

and do an A-Z Sort as shown:

1. Select column “C”,

“Call Type” (click at the top of the col).

2. In the “Sort and Filter”

dropdown, Select “Sort A-Z”

3. A “Warning Dialog” will

pop-up. Select “Expand the

Selection” then Click “Sort”.

Note: This step

guarantees that

the group calls will

be together at the

top so that you

won’t delete any

intermingled ones

in the next step.

Updating Contacts (3) Delete all of the “Private Calls” as

described here. Save the file.

1. Select the first 5 cells of the first row

of the “Private Call” group.

2. Then use “Ctrl+Shift+DownArrow”

to select the entire block of Private

Call rows as shown.

3. Hit “Delete” to remove the existing

Private Calls from the contact list

4. You should now have a

spreadsheet with only the “Group

Calls” as shown here to the right

5. Save this file

Page 10: Code Plug Management: Contact List Import/Export …papasys.com/dmr/resources/DATA/docs/CS750_Contact_List_Mgt... · Code Plug Management: Contact List Import/Export Version 1.0,

Updating Contacts (4) From here it is a simple matter of copying

in a new, updated “Private Call” list to

replace the one you just took out.

The new list can come from:

Another code plug (PAPA for example)

Another radio

DMR MARC Website (some work needed)

http://www.foxhollow.ca/DMR/Contacts/

Page 11: Code Plug Management: Contact List Import/Export …papasys.com/dmr/resources/DATA/docs/CS750_Contact_List_Mgt... · Code Plug Management: Contact List Import/Export Version 1.0,

Updating Contacts (5) In this case we’ll grab a contact list from:

http://www.foxhollow.ca/DMR/Contacts/

Go to the link above. Select the CS-750

page, open the file you are interested in.

We’ll pick the world-wide file near the

bottom of the page.

This is a Comma Separated Value (CSV)

text file that must be imported into Excel to

be used with the file we created earlier.

Page 12: Code Plug Management: Contact List Import/Export …papasys.com/dmr/resources/DATA/docs/CS750_Contact_List_Mgt... · Code Plug Management: Contact List Import/Export Version 1.0,

Updating Contacts (9) The file from the “foxhollow” site looks as

below. You need to copy this data into a

new Excel spreadsheet as described next.

1. Click “Ctrl+A” to

select all the

text (as shown)

2. Click “Ctrl+C”

to copy the text

for the next

step (see next

page)

Page 13: Code Plug Management: Contact List Import/Export …papasys.com/dmr/resources/DATA/docs/CS750_Contact_List_Mgt... · Code Plug Management: Contact List Import/Export Version 1.0,

Updating Contacts (6) Select the data in this file (in it’s entirety)

by typing “Ctrl A” (Select All), Copy this

data using “Ctrl C” or “Copy” from the

menu

Open a new Excel file or new tab on the

sheet you just saved.

Click on the cell in the upper left corner to

select the cell and copy the data into the

spreadsheet using “Paste” or “Shift+Insert”

Page 14: Code Plug Management: Contact List Import/Export …papasys.com/dmr/resources/DATA/docs/CS750_Contact_List_Mgt... · Code Plug Management: Contact List Import/Export Version 1.0,

Now you have the CSV data in Excel.

Convert the text to columns as shown:

Updating Contacts (7)

1. Select the “Data” tab

2. Select “Text to Columns”

3. Select “Delimited”, click “Next”

4. Uncheck all but “Comma”

5. Click “Finish”

Page 15: Code Plug Management: Contact List Import/Export …papasys.com/dmr/resources/DATA/docs/CS750_Contact_List_Mgt... · Code Plug Management: Contact List Import/Export Version 1.0,

Your result should look like below left (I would now do Auto Fit Columns again)

Updating Contacts (8)

1. Select the “Home” tab

2. Select the first 5 columns (A-E)

3. Select the “Format” dropdown

4. Click “AutoFit Column Width”

5. You should see:

Page 16: Code Plug Management: Contact List Import/Export …papasys.com/dmr/resources/DATA/docs/CS750_Contact_List_Mgt... · Code Plug Management: Contact List Import/Export Version 1.0,

Make a copy of this block of data using

“Ctrl C” or “Copy”

Updating Contacts (9)

Select all the data (but not the first

row) as shown using the selection

methodology of your choice.

Make sure you don’t miss any rows

(there are a lot of them). Depending

on which file you are using, it will be

quite long.

Page 17: Code Plug Management: Contact List Import/Export …papasys.com/dmr/resources/DATA/docs/CS750_Contact_List_Mgt... · Code Plug Management: Contact List Import/Export Version 1.0,

Paste this new Private Call list into the

original spreadsheet

Updating Contacts (10)

In the original spreadsheet, highlight the cell in column “A”

immediately below the last row of Group Call data. In this

case at row 64 (your case may differ).

Paste the copied data into the original spreadsheet using

“Shift+Insert” or “Ctrl+V”.

Your result should appear as shown in the screen shot at

the left. The newly appended “Private Call” list is

highlighted in blue. The fonts may be different as shown

here which does not seem to matter to the CPS.

Page 18: Code Plug Management: Contact List Import/Export …papasys.com/dmr/resources/DATA/docs/CS750_Contact_List_Mgt... · Code Plug Management: Contact List Import/Export Version 1.0,

The last step is to renumber column 1 (the

No column) sequentially.

Updating Contacts (11)

Renumber the first column starting with the value 1 for the

first Group Call row (which should be Row 2) continuing

sequentially down through the final Private Call Contact in

the last row, using your favorite Excel fill technique.

A good way to fill this column with sequential

numbers is to write 1 and 2 into the first cell

of rows 2 and 2 respectively (as shown to the

left). Select the cells as shown, then grab the

bottom right corner (note black dot) and drag

it to the bottom row. It will auto-fill {1, 2, 3, …}.

Put the mouse pointer on the black dot, hold

down the mouse button and pull it all the way

to the bottom. There are other ways as well.

Page 19: Code Plug Management: Contact List Import/Export …papasys.com/dmr/resources/DATA/docs/CS750_Contact_List_Mgt... · Code Plug Management: Contact List Import/Export Version 1.0,

Save the resulting spreadsheet and import

this file back into the radio:

Import back into Radio

1. Click “Import Digital

Contact” from the “Tools”

pulldown in the CPS.

2. Navigate to the saved

file location, select the file

and click “Open”

3. Wait for the operation

to complete
