THEY TREK WHERE OTHERS FEAR TO TREAD; IN UNSAFE STRUCTURES; IN YARDS PATROLLED BY VISCIOUS DOGS; IN CONFINED SPACES WHERE VERMIN MAKE THEIR HOME AND IN DEBRIS STREWN TRACTS OF LAND. THEY ARE EMPOWERED TO ISSUE CITATIONS AND REQUIRE LAND OWNERS TO REMOVE DEBRIS, BLIGHT AND REPAIR DILAPIDATED, OVERCROWDED AND UNSAFE HOUSING. THEY ARE MOST OFTEN UNWELCOME, VERBALLY ABUSED AND AT TIMES, PHYSICALLY ASSAULTED AND EVEN KILLED. THEY HAVE THE DUBIOUS DISTINCTION OF WORKING IN A NECESSARY, ALBEIT OFTEN MISUNDERSTOOD AND MALIGNED PROFESSION.

The Code Enforcement objective is to maintain community aesthetics and well-being in Scottsdale neighborhoods by proactively addressing blight and nuisances while creating a link between the City and residents.
Timely Responses ◦ Last year we addressed cases in less than 48
hours ◦ According to the ICMA data Scottsdale Code
Enforcement has a .2 response time (down from.3 last year)
We want 50% of our cases to be proactive ◦ Last year 71% (+1) of our cases were proactive
Resolution within 30 days ◦ Last year cases were solved within 15 days (-2)

case number. An inspection is conducted within 2 days.

If violation has not been corrected, civil or criminal court action
may be pursued and/or contractual abatement may be

thus making a faster response
Restitution Includes:
◦ Cost of paint
◦ Square footage area covered
◦ Amount of time staff spent covering the graffiti/surface area
◦ Mileage (too and from)
◦ Equipment Maintenance costs
◦ Creates a more accurate budget for this essential service
Graffiti Specialist:
o Keeps a book of colors and where the paint can be purchased
o Book is accessible to other staff members
o Allows Scottsdale to be consistent with paint colors
City will… •Square off all graffiti areas and apply two coats of paint on each site •Contact HOA's for donations of matching paint when necessary •Continue to work proactively to abate graffiti
Operation Fix It teams up with volunteers and local businesses to provide labor and materials to help eligible residents maintain their properties. Contact: Program Manager Michelle Bruce at 480-312-8703 Program Criteria:
In 2013, Operation Fix-It has provided assistance to over 50 properties totaling over 2,500 hours of labor. Volunteers have performed a various amount of work from painting the exterior of houses, removing weeds,
trimming trees, installing gravel and the list goes on.

What’s the Tool Lending Center? A 20ft trailer stocked with landscape tools available for loan to assist Scottsdale residents in cleaning up properties in a blighted condition. What kind of tools are inside? Various landscaping tools (i.e. lawn mowers, weed eaters, blowers, shovels, rakes, shears, trash bags/cans, etc.) Large projects also have the opportunity to use a dumpster for FREE!!
This resource has been utilized throughout the city for residents to use to help maintain a strong Scottsdale community and
promote well-maintained and safe neighborhoods.

Remove all uncultivated grass & weeds from rock landscape
Do not store items in an area that can be seen from off the property
Make all building exteriors repairs immediately
Repair all inoperable vehicles in a enclosed
