Tips for a Successful Coat Drive
Thank you for wanting to be an active participant in helping Alaskan Families in need. Because of you, we are able to reach further into our communities to spread the word about giving.
Here are a few tips on how to have a successful Coat Drive:
1. Set a beginning and end date. (Expect to receive coats after the deadline.) Also, set a goal of how many kids you want to help!
2. Spread the word: Tell all of your friends, family, neighbors and co-workers about your drive and your goals for helping children. Don’t be nervous about reminding them during your drive. Many like to help out when they can.
3. Communication Methods: Use email, phone calls, meetings, Facebook pages/groups and other social media, as well as face-to-face. Make sure to distribute your flyers and post them in public areas at your school, work, church, in your neighborhood, etc.
4. Ask friends, family, neighbors and co-workers to help spread the word. 5. Set your boxes in convenient locations that are accessible to those who might
participate. 6. Have fun and be as creative as you want! Volunteering for drives should not be
stressful. Example: Ask for different sizes of coats and colors for one day. 7. Schedule dates/times that you will be dropping off the coats your drive has
collected. If there is a lot of participation, you might need to schedule several drop-off times. The location for your drop-off is located below.*
8. If you have questions or concerns, do not hesitate to call your contact at The Salvation Army: _______________________________________________
9. Collect participants’ contact information (address, email, and phone) so The Salvation Army can thank and recognize them for their efforts after the drive.
