For over 50 years, Tony, Franco and Amedeo D’Ascanio have focused their creative vision, passion and impeccable standards on designing exterior living spaces for waterfront estates in the Florida Keys. The three brothers’ company, D’Asign Source, has perfected the craft of transforming properties into the backdrops of memories that last a lifetime for their clients.

From its inception, D’Asign Source sought to defy the brutal coastal conditions that persistently challenged their commitment to clients to design elegant outdoor living solutions with the highest quality materi-als that could endure the harsh coastal environment. The brothers began to research materials and develop strategies to meet their goal, but they quickly found that many top-quality products simply could not survive the sun, salt, moisture and wind that assaulted coastal properties and frustrated owners. This realization set them on a quest to deliver on their commitment and they began a period of research and design.

Putting Passion into PracticeBeginning in the 1970s, they launched an aggressive effort to identify new landscaping solutions that met their rigorous standards for quality, elegance and longevity. Their efforts proved effective and D’Asign Source gained tremendous momentum in overcoming the elements. Their success was met with greater challenges in the late 1980s when the Keys and Caribbean experienced a cyclical increase in storm activity and corrosive damage. The D’Ascanios saw these events as an opportunity to record and analyze the destructive, but ultimately predictable, consequences of coastal exposure. From this work, they identified the designs and construction strategies to be most tolerant of salt, drought and storm conditions.

Redefining Quality Assurance D’Asign Source next turned a discriminating eye toward the final design elements: exterior fixtures, hardware and accessories. Their extensive experience revealed that most manufacturing companies addressed product integrity in a superficial way and did not stand behind their products. Taking the same approach as before, they set about to identify product flaws that contributed to early corrosion and product failure. The D’Ascanios equipped a team of professionals with cutting-edge technology to critically evaluate products they would consider recommending to their clients. Everything from raw materials to finished products underwent meticulous inspection and harsh testing, including:

• X-Ray Fluorescence testing that allowed for instant identification of metals that were often misrepresented by manufacturers

• Salt spray chambers that created hyper-corrosive conditions

• Thermal imaging cameras for damaging heat analysis

• Long term real world outdoor testing to back up and provide standards for laboratory testing

• UV testing

• The latest computer and software systems for design and analysis

After many years of research, design and testing, D’Asign Source mastered the methodology necessary to produce a full line of truly coastal quality products.

Bringing Exceptional Products to MarketThe D’Ascanios recognized that making their products available to a broad base of customers would require expertise in manufacturing, logistics and sales that paralleled their rigorous approach to develop-ment. Long-time clients, the Zimmermann family, were a natural fit for their needs. Not only were the Zimmermanns owners/operators of The Artcraft Group, which employs industry experts in each of these disci-plines, they also shared an organic passion for quality, family business ethics and customer satisfaction. Together in partnership, the Coastal Source line of outdoor living products continues to expand and improve.

Non-Coastal ChallengesAs the demand for products expanded beyond coastal communities, the D’Ascanio brothers realized that many of the same harsh conditions existed in communities nowhere near the coast. Wherever irrigation, fertilizers, decaying plant matter or acid rain exist, corrosion will quickly follow. As a result, Coastal Source products can now be found properly serving non-coastal areas all across the world.

COASTAL SOURCE Specialty FixturesThe Coastal Source Wash Light is unparalleled in light output and uniformity. It is available in both low power and high power models, allowing you to illuminate small shrubberies or the side of a large building with a single compact fixture. The LED module has been custom designed to utilize CREE COB technology and custom optics to achieve a perfectly uniform light pattern. The whole fixture is used as a heat sink for the LED to ensure it continues lighting for years to come. These lights are available in both 2700K and 3000K.

The Coastal Source Well Light is a completely sealed compact fixture made of solid brass. All screws are concealed by a threaded escutcheon and the fixture can be installed using three screw-in stainless steel spikes to add additional stability if required. This fixture can accommodate all Coastal Source G3 Lamps, including the 9W, allowing you to light incredibly tall objects from a very low profile fixture.

The Coastal Source LED Lip Light is a versatile hardscape fixture with a variety of mounting options.
