Aquaculture Leases Outlines aquaculture lease locations in north central California. California Department of Fish and Game Existing State Marine Protected Areas These boundaries were developed using legal definitions of California marine

protected areas found in Title 14, California Code of Regulations, Section 632(b). The boundaries described are solely intended as a visual representation of the areas included and do not replace or supercede the legal definitions.

California Department of Fish and Game

Kelp Bed Leases Kelp beds along the coast of California are a critical habitat for many important sport and commercial species of invertebrates and fishes. Title 14, California Code of Regulations, designates 87 "Administrative Kelp Beds" (hereinafter kelp beds) for the purposes of managing commercial kelp harvst. The 87 kelp beds extend from the U.S.A.-Mexico International Boundary to the California-Oregon Boundary. They also surround the following islands, Anacapa, San Clemente, San Miguel, San Nicolas, Santa Barbara, Santa Catalina, Santa Cruz and Santa Rosa. Kelp beds may be leased by individual harvesters for the right to exclusively take kelp. Certain kelp beds are designated in Title 14 as unavailable for lease, or open to harvest by any licensed commercial harvester. Other beds are designated as closed to harvest.

California Department of Fish and Game

Marine Managed Areas Existing marine and coastal managed areas include mapped spatial regulations other than state marine protected areas. Further spatial information on these areas will be included in subsequent versions of this document. Information on aquaculture depicted on this map is not comprehensive.

California Department of Fish and Game

Terrestrial Managed Areas A 1:100,000 polygon features class representing public, conservation and trust land ownership in the state of California. Developed for the California Resources Agency's Legacy Project, this dataset depicts ownership features as submitted by major public, trust, and non-profit groups in the state. PCTL04_1 is an update to the Legacy Project's PCTL03_1a geographic dataset, which was built upon a prior effort by the USBR to map public lands. Contributors to past datasets were contacted with requests for any updated lands. Agencies that had ownership changes or boundary adjustments were BLM (including NPS, USBR, and SLC), USFWS, CDFG, CDF, and CDPR. Major changes for the PCTL04_1 update included changes in data supplied by BLM. The changes were due to the agency's switch to a GCBD-based PLS. There were also improvements made to NPS boundaries from a joint effort between NPS and BLM. Changes in USFWS lands were primarily due to re-coding of ownership status. CDF and CDFG also had minor changes.

Essential Fish Habitat Conservation Areas

These data depict Essential Fish Habitat (EFH) conservation areas off Washington, Oregon, and California. The coordinate locations are from NMFS' Final Rule to implement Amendment 19 to the Pacific Coast Groundfish Fishery Management Plan (71 FR 27408; May 11, 2006). In order to minimize to the extent practicable adverse effects from fishing, the final rule prohibits fishing with various gear types within these areas.

All Humboldt Bay Shellfish Farming Ground

This dataset represents the individual tax lots leased or sub-leased by the five shellfish farms in Humboldt Bay, March 2010. This dataset was generated by Ecotrust based on combining the GIS tax lot datasets obtained from Humboldt County and the cities of Arcata and Eureka with legal descriptions and hard copy maps provided by Ted Kuiper (a retired shellfish farmer) detailing the locations for Humboldt Bay Oyster Company, Taylor Mariculture, Aqua-Rodeo Seafood, and North Bay Shellfish. Using the legal descriptions and hard copy maps the shellfish farm locations were digitized for these companies. Representatives from Coast Seafood and Humboldt Bay Harbor District provided maps and GIS data of the Coast Seafood operations. Draft maps were sent to each company for verification. Each company provided two iterations of edits and comments, which were incorporated and the final review with all companies was done in-person to finalize the dataset and to complete the economic survey and report. For more details see, Ecotrust Survey Methods and Summary Statistics for the NCSR Fishery Uses and Values Project, Appendix H: Shellfish summary statistics.
