FAMILY-STYLE FUNBRINGING THE BEST IN

TO THE COASTAL BEND BAY AREAThe SEA District in Downtown Corpus Christi is a strategic

partnership between 13 different venues stretching over 300 acres and several city blocks to bring visitors to the area with

the best live music, professional sporting events, museums and even an awesome family fun water park.

Page 11: Coastal Bend Visitors Guide - June 2015

It’s no secret that the Downtown Corpus Christi area has seen it’s up’s and down’s throughout the past twenty years. Coming from a time of a plethora of family activities, busy restaurants and the bustling nightlife to a slow drought of activity over the last decade; However, one group is leading the charge to revitalize the downtown area.

The Sports, Entertainment and Arts District of Corpus Christi, S.E.A. District for short, is a joint effort of 13 different venues spread over 300 acres and a few city blocks bringing

quality entertainment, family fun and nightlife that visitors to the area are craving.

SPORTSOne of the biggest hidden gems of family fun in the Coastal

Bend is the various sporting events throughout the year. At the American Bank Center, you’ll find a variety of events; From action packed Corpus Christi IceRays hockey games, heart-pounding indoor football with the Corpus Christi Fury or even a basketball game featuring the Texas A&M Corpus Christ Islanders - sporting events are live and well in the Coastal Bend.

The biggest visitor favorite is the Corpus Christi Hooks, a Double-A affiliate of the Houston Astros, at Whataburger Field. In addition to their great baseball game experience, the folks at Whataburger Field have nailed down the family fun experience with their party areas, and Kids Zone area.

ENTERTAINMENTIf any one area has been solidified in Corpus Christi, it’s the

hotels at Brewster Street Icehouse, Concrete Street Amphitheater as well as the American Bank Center.

Throughout the year, you’ll find quality live music and entertainment acts from names like Roger Creager, the Eli Young Band, Randy Rogers, Rob Zombie, ZZ Top, and even stand-up comedian Jerry Seinfeld.

Another “must do” activity, available on weekends starting in May and daily between Memorial Day through Labor Day is the Hurricane Alley Waterpark. Hurricane Alley features numerous water slides, activities as well as their 12,000 square foot wave pool. Don’t forget to checkout one of their newest attractions, the Shredder, a surf simulator available during park hours.

ARTSIf arts and culture is your

pleasure, the downtown S.E.A. District has something for you as well. Experience some of the finest art pieces at the Art Museum of South Texas, learn from historical collections from over 500 years of South Texas history at the Museum of Science and History or see a play at the Harbor Playhouse.

As you can see, the Downtown Corpus Christi area is on it’s way to revitalizing the area that we all have come to love and a big thanks to the S.E.A. District for their efforts in making Downtown Corpus Christi one of the best Family Fun areas in the Coastal Bend Bay Area.

FISHINGCOASTAL BEND

Fishing in the Coastal Bend Bay area is excellent all year round. In the Coastal Bend, there are typically three kinds of fishing; Shallow Water, Deep Water and Fresh Water.

SHALLOW WATERAlong the bays, laguna madre

and the shores of Padre Island and Port Aransas is where you’ll catch speckled trout, redfish, whiting, drum and flounder.

DEEP WATERTypically, off the shores of Port

Aransas to Rockport are “where they bite everyday”. Whether you’re in a private or chartered boat, sport fishermen can try for amberjack, red snapper and tuna year round - if you’re searching for a big marlin and bill fish, you’re best bet is from May to September.

FRESH WATERLocated 40 miles northwest

of Corpus Christi in Mathis, at Lake Corpus Christi, there are 200 miles of shoreline with excellent fishing for bass, catfish and crappie.

FISHING LICENSESAND PRICES

In order to go fresh or salt water fishing, you must have a Texas fishing license. Annual fees for Out of State licenses range from $55-$65 - however one day licenses are only $15. For texas residents, licenses range from $28-$38. Licenses can be picked up at any local Stripes store and local sporting goods stores.
