DESCRIPTION

“In fact, corporations are the infants of our society - they know very little except how to grow (though they're very good at that), and they howl when you set limits. Socializing them is the work of politics. It's about time we took it up again.” - PowerPoint PPT Presentation

•Teaching methods

Training•Importance of training as a ground for learning

•Training: Game Ratio; 2:1 to 4:1

• Challenging, active, age appropriate sessions

•Concepts of “flow” and periodization

•More verbal in training sessions; much less verbal during games

Coach as FacilitatorCreate active training that replicates

game environmentTeach rather than talk; show rather than

tellUnderstand developmental

characteristics of age group being coached; tailor training accordingly

Coach as Educator; Coach as Learner

Teach with a variety of styles and methods

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the game; hence, be a lifelong soccer learner

Coach as MentorLook like a coach; professional attire

lends credibilityModel the highest standards in ethics and

interpersonal behaviorEducate the whole player, as much as possible; soccer can be a vehicle for

teaching life skills

Teaching Mechanics

•Progressive Methodology

•Approaches to instructing and correcting:

* Command: the use of explicit direction

* Questioning: the “Socratic Method”

* Guided Discovery: creating exercises in training in which the players are expected to solve problems presented by the exercise

Teaching Methods•Stopping the activity: freeze action, review what occurred, rehearse with correct picture, restart with success in the targeted technical execution or tactical choice

•Using a natural stoppage to review a success or address a breakdown

•Individual mentoring within the ongoing flow of an activity (not commentating or cheerleading)

•Usually players respond better to more corrections early in the training session and more free play toward the end of the session

Team Management: Ten Keys

•Education •Coaching Philosophy

•Philosophy and Goals for the Team

•Clear communication Procedures

•Parent Code of Conduct

•Safe Practices

•Nutrition Education

•Develop routines

•Goal Setting for Coach, Players, and Team

•Watch Soccer Games!

Team Management: Core Considerations

•Where to begin?

•Rosters

•Organization

•Equipment

•Safety

•Choosing training topics and teaching methodologies

Training Activities to Improve Technical Activity

•Helping players acquire technical skill through activities with controlled pressure

- adapt size of space to increase challenge - increase or decrease numbers of opponents to adjust challenge level

•Small group possession games; 3v1, 4v2, 5v3; can be used to teach technique or tactics

•Directional games for improving dribbling and tackling; 1v1 in channels; 1v1+1

Small-Sided Games

• Games of 2v2 through 6v6 can be used to teach techniques or tactics

•Use variations to change focus and teaching emphases: - uneven numbers - neutral players - small goals - target players - end zones, channels, neutral zones - more than two goals - three or four teams - designate number of touches per player -change field shape (circles, triangles) - move to large goals, with goalkeepers

Model Session by StaffWarm-up: active, focused; dynamic

stretchingThree increasingly challenging exercises

Final short-sided game; targeted coaching points
