miao emBroidery from south-west ChiNaVisually stunning textiles which showcase the living art of the Miao ethnic minority in South-West China. The Miao’s elaborate festival dresses are unique in their embroidery incorporating symbols of their distinctive culture and legends. The creative combination of colour, pattern and texture is an expression of love and inspiration for life. Curated by Xuesen Zeng.

welCome to our Chinese new Year Celebrations. also known as the spring Festival, this is the most widelY Celebrated event in the asian Calendar.In 2013 we look forward to welcoming the Year of the Snake. Traditionally a family celebration, the partner organisations invite individuals, friends and families to come together at a series of events and workshops across Broxtowe, Gedling, Nottingham and Rushcliffe where you can be introduced to crafts, music, exhibitions and enjoy our spectacular fireworks finale at Highfields Park.

Chinese paper lanternsimportant warning

Nottingham City Council, Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue and The University of

Nottingham do not support the use or sale of lanterns from Highfields Park. Please note that The University of Nottingham Security staff will be patrolling the park and anyone

selling these lanterns will be asked to leave. The launching of lanterns is also prohibited

for reasons of health and safety.

Broxtowe Borough CouNCiL daNCe & drummiNg resideNCiesFour Broxtowe schools are taking part in ‘a Taste of China’ day workshops. Beeston Fields School will be performing at the Beeston Square event on Saturday 9th February and the finale Chinese New Year event at Lakeside on the evening of Sunday 10th February. Push Dance Group, an innovative company of learning disabled adults from the Barncroft Day Centre will be showcasing at the Beeston Chinese New Year event on Saturday 9th February in Beeston Square following a residency with Chinese Dance artist Du Dan.
