UNM requires that you earn a minimum of 120 credit hours to graduate!

These aren’t just any 120 hours, so where are they coming from?

UNM Core Curriculum

Requires approximately 37 credit hours of courses in 7 areas of study.

1. Writing & Speaking (9 hrs)

2. Mathematics (3 hrs)

3. Physical & Natural Sciences (7 hours-two lectures, one lab)

4. Social & Behavioral Sciences (6 hrs)

5. Humanities (6 hrs)

6. Foreign Language (3 hrs, non-English language)

7. Fine Arts (3 hrs)

Students must earn a C (not C-) or better in ALL Core Curriculum courses.

All undergraduate degrees require completion of the UNM Core Curriculum.

Certain degree plans have already chosen courses for you in the above areas. Please check with your UNM Degree-Granting Unit Advisor to be sure you are choosing core curriculum courses that are appropriate for your major.

Upper-Division

• 300 and 400 level courses

• CNM does not offer upper-division courses,

these MUST be done at UNM.

• You will notice some courses transfer to UNM as

equivalents to courses numbered at the 300 or

400 level. HOWEVER, they retain their lower

division level!

• Each degree program requires completion of a

certain amount of upper-division. See your

UNM academic advisor!

How to Apply for Admission to UNM

1. Fill out an application

• Traditional Transfer Students: Go to http://admissions.unm.edu/ and click

on “APPLY TO UNM” in upper right-hand corner. For Application Type,

choose “Albuquerque Freshman/Undergrad.”

• Gateway Students: Complete the Gateway Transition Form – Found at:

http://admissions.unm.edu/general-information/admissions-forms.php

2. Contact the CNM Records Office to order an official transcript. Have it sent

to the UNM Office of Admissions.

3. Send official transcripts to UNM from any other college or university you

may have attended other than CNM. This includes AP or CLEP Exam

scores.
