- Patients referred from the Perinatal Program - Baby with known anomalies

FINAL DESTINATION OF TUBES - RED & PINK – TUBE TO BLOOD BANK (112) - PURPLE & GREEN W/ STRIPES – Leaves with NICU/Peds after delivery

PRE-DELIVERY DURING DELIVERY POST-DELIVERY

MFCU Fellow creates memo in STICKY NOTE ON CS-LINK notifying RNs about Cord Blood Collection for genetic testing

NICU/PEDS will be present at time of delivery & WILL ANNOUNCE CORD BLOOD COLLECTION FOR GENETIC TESTING AT TIME OF DELIVERY

! PRINT BABY LABELS for Cord Blood Genetics (GREEN W/ STRIPES & PURPLE) specimen

! ON ADMISSION – if patient is a candidate for genetic testing, prepare and gather necessary supplies for delivery

! SUPPLIES CHECKLIST - Type & Screen – 1 RED & 1 PINK tubes - Genetics – 1 GREEN W/ STRIPES &

1 PURPLE tubes - 20 cc syringe

! LABEL GENETICS TUBES CORRECTLY – GREEN W/ STRIPES & PURPLE – BABY LABELS INCLUDE – Date, Time, RN initials TYPE & SCREEN - RED & PINK – MOTHER LABELS - Send to Blood Bank (112)

! Ensure CORRECT SUPPLIES, ESP GREEN (WITH STRIPES) SODIUM HEPARIN TUBES are at bedside (check reference # and expiration date)

! _Make sure MD collects enough cord blood for Type & Screen and Genetics specimen _IF SMALL SAMPLE? Fill as much of the tubes as you can, small sample is better than no sample.

! GIVE GENETICS TESTING SPECIMEN TO PEDS/NICU for processing
