T.A Camera Club’s Annual Photograph Competition 2017
This year is a little different from other year’ competitions, no more printing and sending to an address. All you have to do is take your picture via your camera or phone and send it straight to an email address – great, yes!! So start sending now.
The theme this year is an image which has ’CAUGHT YOUR EYE’. It can be anything from an animal, insect, cloud or object, the world’s your oyster. So get looking and start snapping away.

Fitness Fundraiser for Mental Health
Chesterton Sports Centre will be running a series of fitness classes (including Circuits, Zumba, Pilates and Studio Cycling) to raise money for a local mental health football group who have just

News from the Churches and Community
St Andrew’s Church We have our biggest programme yet for the Chesterton Festival with three concerts, a series of poetry recitals, a nature walk in the churchyard (and, separately, a historical tour). We will also be hosting a youth night, a Sunday afternoon Songs of Praise and a church decorated with flowers and a giant whale to tell the story of Jonah (the youth choir will be singing Jonah-Man Jazz, amongst other things, on Saturday 24 June at 4pm).
At the end of June we will be
saying farewell to one of our curates, Bridget Baguley, a week before welcoming a new one (Kathryn Waite)! On Sunday 2 July, 4pm, I will be leading a historical tour from Castle Hill down to St Clement’s in Bridge Street, exploring the origins of both Chesterton and Cambridge and taking us into the territory of the Vikings. St George’s Church It was very good to be able to move back into the church for Holy Week and Easter and to fill the cross with flowers and build an Easter garden. We continue to work in partnership with Cambridge Community Circus in our use of the space and it is great to have them with us. Another partnership, with the Cambridge Film Trust is continuing with a film showing during the Chesterton Festival and it will be great to welcome everyone in for that. We would continue to welcome suggestions and thoughts from all the community in the use of the space for the benefit of our neighbours and city. Ruth Adams
Upcoming events: Our monthly Coffee Morning is held at Hundred Houses office at 10am on the first Monday of each month unless it's a bank holiday. The next coffee mornings are 5 June and 3 July. There is a bimonthly raffle in aid of this year's charity Magpas.
Our Residents AGM will be 15 June at Freeman House at 7pm. Everyone is welcome and there will be refreshments afterwards.
We will also be having a stall at the Chesterton Festival Community Fun Day, Saturday 17 June, with lots of games and freebies, so do come and say hello to us!
The Southend trip will be Thursday 24 August leaving Chesterton at approximately 9.30am. Tickets are £5 for adults, £3.50 for children. Places are limited to first come first served.
On November 24 we are holding our fish and chip supper at Freeman House starting at 7pm. Tickets are £5 for an adult and £3.50 per child. Pre-booking is essential to ensure you have something to eat! Community Listener volunteers needed This is Lizzie, she is one of our local
Healthwatch Cambridgeshire volunteers and is helping us with a new project to look at how health and care services communicate with people who have a sensory loss.
Lizzie's told us "I am a service user myself and have disabili es so I rely on good healthcare and support, such as having a good rela onship with the GP."
Our volunteers are people like you who live or work in Cambridgeshire. You know the place you live and the people in your community. We need your help to talk to more people about Healthwatch and find out what care is like for them.
You will listen to people within your local community who have used health or social care services. This may be your family, neighbours and
friends, or people you meet within your local networks.
You may visit local groups, chat with people and record what they have to say.
You might talk to people about Healthwatch Cambridgeshire. This may involve giving a short presenta on, or working with us on a display stand.
We will give you training and support, as well as paying agreed out of pocket expenses.
As a Community Listener, you could also train to take part in our ‘Enter and View” visits to local health or care services. This is our legal right to visit places that provide publicly funded health or care services, to see and hear how people experience care. In the last year, we have visited Addenbrooke’s and Hinchingbrooke Hospitals.

Chesterton Choral Society The latest concert of the Chesterton Choral Society took us back to Brickfields (the home of City Church), where we celebrated the coming of spring with our "Let there be Light!" concert.
Our next concert "Animal Magic" centres around our furry or aquatic, domestic or wild, scaly or feathered friends and the impact they have on our lives. A highlight will be Flanders' and Horovitz' Captain Noah and His Floating Zoo.
The concert takes place at St Laurence's R.C. Church, Milton Road, on Sunday 16 July at 4pm. Tickets will be £7 each (concessions for under 16s/unwaged £5), and there will be a family ticket available for £15. Cambridge North station is scheduled to open on 21 May with a shuttle service to the present station. On 22 May a fuller timetable will come into operation with at least one fast and one slow service an hour to London and an hourly service to Ely and Kings Lynn.
The Citi2 bus will be rerouted along Cowley Road to the new station which will also be served by the guided busway. It is expected that Thameslink 2000 services could start in 2018. There will be ticket machines but no ticket office. Michael Bond

We will leave St Andrew’s Church at 9am and return by 6pm. Tickets will cost £23 and will include the coach journey and a guided tour of the studios and gardens and a special look at the summer exhibition Becoming Henry Moore. The tour lasts approximately 1.5 hours.

Brown’s Field Summer Outing Thursday 10 August 2017 We will be going to Felixstowe again this year. Tickets (£5) will be on sale on Thursday’s at Brown’s Field Youth and Community Centre from 13 July until sold out. Young children should travel in car seats. The event is funded by a grant from the City Council’s North Area Committee and organised by Chesterton Community Association.
