Since the last Wessex Way we have had a lot going onwith the 50th Anniversary party, presentations in Eastleighand Ringwood, and more recently the Christmas party at thePotters Heron which was one of the best I have been to.
With reference to the 50th Anniversary party, I would like to thank ourcommittee for all their hard work in organizing the night, with Pete Attwoodarranging the hip flasks and running around, spreading the word to all thepast chairmen. I would also like to thank the Farrington family for all theirhard work they put in to the event, whilst looking after our National guestsand putting a fine spread of food on as always. A special thank you needs tobe given to Paul Tuttiett for his hard work in producing some fantasticpublications for the Anniversary. It was such a special night and I was gladto be a part of such a momentous occasion, made even more special due toour National chairman, past national chairman & national treasure attending.
We have had our first presentation at the Eastleigh Irish club with LuiGong,I have to say that I was a little disappointed with the lack of people whoattend. I would have expected to see more members, the reason we are tryingto have one presentation at each venue is to broaden our member base andto try and attract new members for the future development of the CMPEWessex Branch.
At our Christmas party this year, which was a sell out, we had Matt Fisheras Michael Buble who kept us all well entertained through out the evening.The raffle was a huge success with a lot of happy Christmas partiers leavingwith beautiful hampers. The food was good, the venue was great, theatmosphere was fantastic and the dance floor was packed!!!
2015 promises to be as fun-packed and as busy as 2014, starting the yearwith the CAB screen race team presentation at the Eastleigh Irish club onthe 28th January.

Once again the sun came out to help us on our way with the 3rd CMPE Wessexbranch golf dayHeld at Paultons Golf club Romsey.Two weeks before the tournament we had 50 confirmed golfers ready to do battle,but unfortunately for us, but good for the industry we had 5 teams that had to pullout due to increased work commitments.This said we still had seven teams with shiny clubs, and clean balls, all munching onbacon rolls and slurping coffee on the day.The crowd gathered around the first tee at 10am to watch Eddie Sweeney and histeam lead the way, and as the first four drives were sent straight down the middle itbecame apparent that this was the team to beat.The rest of us followed and with some good shots and some not so good, but it’s thenot so good, that make this day what it is, an enjoyable event for everyone.For those that have never played golf at Paultons I would highly recommend it, thecourse again was in immaculate condition the greens ran true, the fairway cut to helpthe less talented of us, but the rough very unforgiving.
It’s at this point I would like to give a special mention to our branch Chairman MrMatt England, he selflessly donated all the golf balls that he started with in his bag,to any future golfers that play the course and eventually find them. Well done Mattyour generosity has been duly noted.At the other end of the scale, Mr John McCarthy got a hole in one on the 8th.Congratulations Jonny great strike of the ball.
After eighteen holes, the scoreswere once again collated by Eddieand as last year his patience stillshowed no bounds.We settled in the club houserestaurant to enjoy a very nicetwo course meal, and after thecoffee’s had been served we gotdown to the sharp end of the day.

There were some National Officers in attendance, including the National Chairman,Malcolm Saddington & his wife Pauline, Past National Chairman John Longmuir &Ruby HIS wife, & National Treasurer Gerry Hill & his wife Carol, and of course PatBowring, as another Past National Chairman.
Presentations were made to the Wessex Past Chairmen present - Joy Vallis, MickFarrington, Pete Attwood, Eddie Carr, Tom McNamara, Michael Kane, DaveMcCulloch, John Oak, Pat Bowring, & Ivor Binns. Plus a special presentation toGeorge Farwell, a founder member, who recounted the first ever meeting when the 6or so people, met at the "Portsmouth Hoy" pub in Poole and decided to contact theC.M.P.E. and form the Wessex Branch.
The evening went very well, with present Chairman Mathew England conducting theevents, with Vice Chairman Andy Hawkins, and a "toast" was made to "C.M.P.E.Wessex Branch, another 50 years.
