Telangana Media Hyderabad: Dialing 100 for help will have new dimen-sions for women in distress, with the Women’s Safety Wing of the TelanganaState Police now in the process of developing an app that will do more thanjust send a team to help. The new initiative, which will redirect calls to Dial100 from women needing help to the app, will go a step ahead offeringcounselling and guidance through volunteers. If any women dials 100 dur-ing the time of distress, their call will be redirected to the app wherein avolunteer will be assigned to the complainant.“We will be taking calls thatcome to 100 and assigning a volunteer based on what the complaint isabout. If the issue can be solved by counselling them on the phone, we willdo that. Otherwise, we will also provide them details on what are the nextsteps they can take to get justice,” Swati Lakra, Additional Director Generalof Police, Women Safety told Lakra added that the app would be ready tobe rolled out in a month and that initially, they would start by addressingdomestic violence cases. And depending on the response for the initiative, plans will be made to extend it to other cases as well.

Boost to vaccina-tion drive

The approval for the first vaccine for chil-dren comes as a big boost to India’s vac-cination drive. The significance of thethree-dose ZyCov-D, the first needle-free,plasma DNA-based vaccine, is that it hasbeen developed indigenously by ZydusCadila in partnership with the Departmentof Biotechnology. It adds to the vaccinebasket and constitutes a breakthrough forthe home-grown drug maker. This secondindigenous vaccine after Bharat Biotech’sCovaxin can be administered for childrenin the 12–18-year age group and it hasshown a primary efficacy of over 66% inthe Phase-III clinical trials. There is alsohope of a two-dose regimen in near future. To be given at intervals of 28 and 56 daysusing the painless PharmaJet needle-freeapplicator, it will bring adolescents withinthe ambit of vaccination. The opening ofschools thus could become a reality soon.At a time when India needs to ramp up itsvaccination programme to achieve herdimmunity quickly, the emergency approvalfor a new indigenous vaccine will be of amajor help. Though the inoculation driveis picking up momentum in the country, itstill falls short of the original target of cov-ering the entire eligible adult population —nearly 95 crore — by the end of the year.Compared with countries like the UnitedStates and UK, the vaccination coveragein India is quite low. In the last two weeks,India administered an average over 55 lakhdoses per day and at this rate 75% of thepopulation would be covered by the end ofthe year.It is because of the slow pace ofvaccination that India’s GDP growth fore-cast has been lowered from 9.6% to 9.4%in 2021-22 by Fitch India Ratings. The rat-ing agency had earlier estimated that In-dia can expect 9.6% growth if all peopleabove the age of 18 get vaccinated byDecember 31, 2021. In case India fails toachieve this target, the GDP may slip to9.1%. India needs about 200 crore dosesof Covid-19 vaccine, including the provi-sion for wastage, to cover the entire popu-lation. There is an urgent need to expandthe vaccine basket by roping in foreignmRNA vaccines for production in India. TheCentre and the States are required to workin tandem on a mission mode to increasevaccination coverage. The data shows thatthough one-fourth of the world is now fullyvaccinated against Covid-19, only 0.6% ofpeople in the poorest nations figure amongthem, while 50% people are fully inoculatedin the richest nations. The stark differencein numbers only highlights the lack of co-hesive, determined effort at the global levelto combat coronavirus, and how it couldmar the march against the pandemic.

American pattern of pragmatism“

It should be noted that the nationalism of'independent' India can be free from sectarianfears.“On the eve of Independence Day, thePrime Minister announced that August 14 wouldhenceforth be known as the Day ofRemembrance of Partition. He also said that thisday will be a day of social unity. If social cohesionis the goal of this day, as the Prime Minister says,it would be a welcome thing. But unfortunatelythe history of the last seven years tells ussomething different. That is why the PrimeMinister's announcement raises concerns aboutsocial cohesion.“When it was decided thatNarendra Modi would be the BJP's primeministerial candidate in 2014, he started theSadbhavana Yatra in Gujarat. His expression ofgoodwill towards the Muslim community in thewake of the Gujarat riots was a very reassuringand welcome thing to many. Many thought thatwhen Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister,he would literally treat people of all religions inthe society as the Prime Minister. Some eventhought that the leader of the party who accusedothers of pseudo-secularism would show by hisbehavior what 'true secularism' means.“But inthe seven years since he took office, the primeminister, his cabinet colleagues and his partyleaders have often acted directly or indirectly indefiance of his declaration of 'Sabka Saath'.There are many instances in which even thelimits of civility and at least humanity have beencrossed by the leaders through statements andconvenient silence. It was all done very openly. This raises strong suspicions that this Fear ofPartition will be used to truly achieve socialcohesion or to further distrust and hatred towardsthe minority community in India.“On 15th August1947, the country celebrated Independence Daywith high hopes, despite the heartache ofpartition. It was nationalism that believed that ourreligious identity and our identity as Indians werecompletely different. According to thisnationalism, Christianity and Islam are not'outside' religions either, as India was createdout of a conflict with the British. Before the arrivalof the British, India was not a nation-state.Nationalism knew that the word "nation" had nomeaning unless it had a definite geographicalboundary and an army that defended it, a centralstate. This nationalism also considered thepeople, religion and culture of the people whocame and settled here before the emergence ofa nation called India as their own. This notion ofHinduism-Muslim relations was not in theimagination of India. This relationship is verycomplex and it has beautiful cultural blends aswell as extreme conflicts, this nationalism knew. But without carrying the burden of history, thedream was to create a modern India based onthe values of individual freedom in theconstitution, emphasizing its culturalconnotations. A modern country is not just acountry that uses modern science andtechnology. A modern country is a country rootedin a society in which every person has aninherent dignity, regardless of the religion or castein which he or she is born. It was a daunting taskto dream like this against the backdrop of partitionwounds. However, the leadership of Gandhi-Nehru-Patel and others dared to dream a newdream by overcoming the burden of this painfulhistory. In the last 70-75 years, this dream hasbeen shattered many times. But that dreamcame true. One of the reasons for this is theshoulder to shoulder contribution of people of allfaiths in the freedom struggle.“But in recenttimes, this dream has been shattered. Thenationalism created by the independencemovement and that idea of India is now on theverge of political defeat. Since the Modigovernment came to power in 2014, the processhas intensified. Today, a new form of nationalismand the resulting idea of India is beginning to takeits toll on the Indian mind.“The question is, canthe new India in this idea be 'independent'? So,mentally, can this India ever become free andindependent? The reason for raising thisquestion is that the cultural nationalism of theSangh-BJP denies that Indian nationalism wasformed out of conflict with the British. He tracesthe roots of Indian nationalism to the history ofIndia hundreds of years before the formation ofIndia as a sovereign state power, loyal to thatpower and a guardian of certain geographicalboundaries. Therefore, according to thisnationalism, Christianity and Islam are religionsthat have come from 'outside'. Theaccompanying cultures and lifestyles also comefrom 'outside'.“Conflicts in medieval history areat the heart of this (cultural) nationalism. Wherethere is controversy about exactly what happenedeven in recent history, it is very difficult to sayunequivocally what exactly happened in medieval

American pattern ofpragmatism

Western countries continue violence inthe world by selling arms and logistics toconflicting groups; It would not be anexaggeration to say that a large section of theAmerican population was fed on war. That is whyit is bold to expect theoretical politics from thesuperpowers.“Many arguments are being foughtover the US withdrawal from Afghanistan and thepolicy behind it. But if we look at the recent historyof this superpower, this behavior can beaccompanied. The so-called pragmatism of theUnited States has been prominent in manydevelopments in the world.“In August 1952, 70years ago, the United States launched a militarycoup against the then Prime Minister of Iran,Mohamed Mossadegh, for nationalizing aWestern-owned oil company. Since then, theUnited States has strengthened its foothold inWest Asian politics by pursuing an unrestrictedpolicy. In fact, before this sort of thing, the role ofthe United States during both World Wars hasbeen decisive. With the exception of Pearl Harborin 1941 and the 9/11 attacks in 2001, no war hasbeen fought on independent American soil. Butin many parts of the world outside of the UnitedStates, the country seems to have intervened, invaded, and carried out covert operations. FromWorld War I to last year's Indo-China tensions,US "participation" has been active. If there is anypolitical-economic benefit to be seen in thefuture, it is to be tampered with and to be sidelinedwhen it is over; So whatever happens on thatisland, that's the American way.“Vietnam's ragingwar has not diminished the appetite of the USsystem, but it has not diminished the country'sappetite for war. The then US administration hidfrom its own citizens the deaths of thousands ofits soldiers in that war. Official reports from theU.S. Department of Foreign Policy and Defensehave often torn the U.S. veil off. By then, however,it is too late. After 9/11, Saddam Hussein wasaccused of possessing biological and chemicalweapons. Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi gave birth to"Isis" to avenge the Americans coming togetherin the prison, the most recent history. There aremany such examples in history. The US policyhas always been to sell arms to its captive countryfor fear of its enemy, and to keep tensionsbetween the two nations one day. The 1990 Iran-Iraq war and the 2015 Saudi-Iranian covert warin Yemen prove this point. Terrorists, who havebeen rewarded with millions of dollars by theUnited States, are now active in Afghanistan andPakistan. Therefore, there is ample scope toquestion the behavior of the US government.“Letalone democracy in any of the countries that theUnited States has invaded in the past to establishdemocracy; But there is no other pipe. Startinga creamy warfare, training the local army, holdinga two-handed government, waging civil waragainst different communities, promotingviolence and taking the whole country across theabyss The policy of this country has remained

history. And how complicated that history is too. Then the political ideology tries to determineexactly what happened in this history. Marxisthistorians look at everything from a classperspective, just as people influenced by theSangh-BJP's ideology of cultural nationalism tellhow ruthless and cruel every Muslim king was.It is wrong to look at the events of medievalhistory with today's values in mind. But it is doneand it is also very clever. It is also part of it topaint a convenient picture of Muslim kings.“OnceIslam and Islamic culture are considered to be'external', every sign of that culture is a sign ofthe victory of foreigners over Hindus. Thegrandeur of the Red Fort, the lofty gates ofFatehpur Sikri, the beauty of the Taj Mahal, the delicacies of ghazals and Urdu, and thedelicious taste of biryani cannot be denied, but frankly, they are all part of our own culture.Such a problem was not in the nationalism ofGandhi-Nehru-Sardar Patel. This nationalismcould assume that all these things are ours. Therefore, India never felt the mental need tochange Aligarh to Harigarh. He said India wasfree. Because he did not consider any religionor culture to be 'external'.“But the nationalismof the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh-BJPcannot be so free in principle. Muslims havelived in this country for hundreds of years andwill continue to do so. And the fact that tracesof Islamic culture for hundreds of years willremain in all spheres of Indian life has alwaysplagued the Sangh Sangh BJP's nationalism. There is no escape from this. No matter howmuch the BJP gains overall power andleadership like Narendra Modi for the next 50years, this nationalism will remain entrenchedin medieval history and will continue to sufferdefeat. Under the influence of this nationalism,India cannot be free from the shackles ofhistory.“Any nationalism is in danger ofbecoming hostile. And out of that comes hugeviolence. But the constructive possibility ofnationalism is that it can also be useful forbuilding social cohesion and brotherhood. Butthe Sangh BJP's cultural nationalism does nothave this capability. This nationalism cannotgive 20 crore Muslims in the country as muchprestige as other Hindus in principle. Theirfeelings about this large crowd will be limitedto doubt and hatred. Such a feeling about thepeople of our own country, the feeling ofdominating them is the inevitability of Sangh-BJP nationalism.“The idea of a new India, which has achieved political victory today, issteeped in narrow and medieval history.Sangh: In the BJP's imagination, this Indiacannot be peaceful with itself. That is theinevitability of this India. This India can neverbe truly independent. By announcing the 14thof August, the day of remembrance, NarendraModi has made India more bound by history.

so clean to start the old game. Afghanistan, Iraqand Syria underline the same truth.“Share ofsin:“In the latest case, Biden alone is not toblame. All of the Republican and Democraticpresidents who have come to power in theUnited States in the last twenty years sharethis sin. Former US Vice President DickCheney and former Secretary of DefenseDonald Rumsfeld have benefited manygenerations from their wars. While theOttoman Empire is being torn to pieces at will, the Western nations, born without regard tolocal sentiment, have at their own peril. It wouldnot be an exaggeration to say that a largesection of the population in the West, andespecially in the United States, is being fedonly on war by continuing to wreak havocaround the world by selling logistics to rivalgroups.“The pressure group of the US armsmanufacturers is dominating the politics there. He has amassed a whopping 4 billion over thepast two decades! The group chooses a newbattlefield and continues the chaos until it issatisfied. These arms manufacturers currentlysell arms to 96 units in the world. Theseelements include dictators as well as terroristgroups. This percentage system in Americanpolitics, however, has turned the world upsidedown. The administration of Biden and KamalaHarris, who came to power on human rightsand immigration issues, has left behind ahandful of local agents, spies and interpreterswho have helped US forces in Afghanistan! TheU.S. has tried to bandage by rehabilitatingsome local helpers after Zed was lifted fromall levels. But because of that, America'srunning policing for democracy becomesdubious.“Biden, who threw down the yoke ofAfghanistan, was on vacation when Kabul fellinto the hands of the Taliban. Not only Bidenbut also Bush, Obama and Trump were ravingabout how the US has strengthenedAfghanistan. This understanding shows howfar they are from reality. The American systemsees nothing but selfishness. She doesn'teven look the other way. In February 1962,then-President John F. Kennedy ordered 1,200cigarettes of his choice from Cuba, and thenbanned the sale of "communist" products tothe United States.“The time to come will seethe Indian Ocean and China embroiled in aglobal effort to f ight the evi ls. China'shegemony, the daily naval exercises in theSouth China Sea, are heating up theatmosphere. It is clear that India will be at thecenter of this question. In this new case, theUS wants to target China over India'sshoulders. This is a direct indication of theongoing high profile of the Biden administrationin India. Weighing every aspect of this door-to-door pact, India should consider how much theUS has to pay. It is better to be wary of Americanpragmatism.

Narayan Rane: From point to Hamritumari...The remarks made by BJP leader, Union

Minister Narayan Rane about the Chief Ministerand Shiv Sena's Sarvesarva Uddhav Thackerayare offensive, there is no reason for anyone tobe angry, and criticism of rivals in politics shouldbe made in moderation; However, with this battleon the political field, the politics of the state istaking a new turn. This political struggle betweenRane and Thackeray has a history of 25years.“This struggle had started since these twoleaders were in Shiv Sena. The struggle is likelyto reach its climax in the near future. Explainingthe background of these two, it will be clear whatwill be the result of the heated politicalatmosphere in the state for the last two days.“TheBJP-Shiv Sena alliance came to power in 1995after defeating the Congress regime in the statein an unprecedented manner. Rane was one ofthe few leaders close to Shiv Sena chiefBalasaheb Thackeray, who was a branch chief, corporator, chairman of the BEST committee, ministerial and later chief minister, and had amajor cannon like Chhagan Bhujbal in the ShivSena's artillery. Uddhav Thackeray, ManoharJoshi and Subhash Desai were in one of the twogroups in the Shiv Sena, while Raj Thackerayand Narayan Rane were in the other group.Recognizing the political need to lead the BahujanSamaj, Balasaheb handed over the chiefministership to Manohar Joshi to Rane in 1999,but it left Uddhav Thackeray with a hard time. Thatwas the beginning of the struggle between thetwo leaders. In his autobiography, Rane hasstated that Uddhav Thackeray is responsible forthe defeat of the alliance in 1999.“UddhavThackeray changed 15 names in the list of ShivSena candidates. Eleven of them rebelled andwon. He would have won 69 Shiv Sena seats,

while the BJP would have won 56 and thealliance would have retained power with the helpof others. Then in 2002, when the independentswithdrew their support for the VilasraoDeshmukh-led Congress government, thecoalition lost its chance to come to power. Inhis book, he has accused Uddhav Thackerayof being responsible for that too. Rane's housewas set on fire after the 2002 assassinationof a NCP worker. At that time no Shiv Senaleader came to Konkan. Since then, Rane hasdistanced himself from the Shiv Sena.“In theShiv Sena National Executive held atMahabaleshwar in 2003, Rane was alsoopposed to making Uddhav Thackeray theparty's executive president. Even before theresults of the 2004 Assembly elections,Rane's message of 'support me' during theelection of the Legislative Leader had drawnthe attention of the leadership.“Rane'sstatement at Rangsharda that 'the market forposts in the Sena is being marketed', led toanother flower in Uddhav Thackeray's book inRane's name. That is why even though he wasthe Leader of the Opposition in 2004, the partyleadership was angry with him. He left ShivSena in 2005 and joined Congress.“Afterleaving Shiv Sena, Rane was free to criticizeUddhav Thackeray's working methods.Uddhav decides by asking some ‘hoyabs’around. They are as good as man; But theirleadership is a terrible thing. He concluded thatthe Shiv Sena won 63 seats in 2014 notbecause of Uddhav Kartarta, but because ofthe Modi wave, as he lives in an ivory towerthey report.“It would be useful for a stormyleader like Rane to take a sharp stand againstthe Shiv Sena in power in the state.

Prof. Ken CatermolConverting analog message to digital message. This would not have been possible without athorough study of telecommunicationstechnology. But Prof. Ken Catermol did it, that'swhy we are living in the age of computers andmobile phones today! This Professor Catermolrecently passed away. He was a professor at theUniversity of Essex in Suffolk. His book Principlesof Code Modulation (1969) is the original textbookof telecommunication technology! Pulse codemodulation was a method of converting analogmessages to digital messages. It applies to bothsound and picture, which is why we are in thedigital world today. Otherwise, electronic watchesand mobiles would not work. Catermol wasawarded the JJ Thomson Medal by the Institutionof Engineers in 1996. Britain is his hometown, named after a department at the University ofEssex. Information in analog messages wasdifficult to store and the speed of transmissionwas low. The pulse code modulation methodinvented by Prof. Catermol made it easier to store/ send information. That is why the mobilephones, computers and television sets that wesee today are believed to have been laid by Prof.Catermol. Although Martin Cooper (1973) or NeilPapworth (1992), the originator of SMS texting, are credited with inventing the mobile phone, thetheoretical basis for all this was laid byCatermol.“Catermol worked at the Royal Electricaland Mechanical Engineers during World War IIbefore entering the research andtelecommunications industry. Simple telephonewires used to be there then but now the telephoneis almost obsolete and has been replaced bymobile phones. He was teaching research in theDepartment of Communication at the Universityof Essex.

As a one-time Shiv sena leader, Union Minister NarayanRane should know that if we continue to behave like this,Shiv Sena will benefit from that behavior.“Shiv Sena willbe happy to hear Narayan Rane's irrational speech andBJP will be happy. Rane's babbling got him a rival from hiscaste, which he wanted. The political history ofMaharashtra says that Shiv Sena was better off every timea rival of this 'status' stood up. Therefore, Shiv Sainiksshould still thank their former leader. Shiv Sainiks acrossthe state seem to be on fire because of his uniquestatement. For the last year and a half, the army has beenin a state of turmoil for the last year and a half due toCorona, his increasing lockouts and similar third wavewarnings. This absurd statement of Rane will only helpto remove the moss on the tongues of the soldiers. That'show it must have been. But even after so many'opportunities' given by Rane, the decision of the stategovernment to arrest him is incomprehensible andunjustifiable. It would have been on the path of Shiv Senato release Rane. But the arrest threatens to erode publicsympathy.“In fact, Rane's statement must have shakenthe BJP's Chintan Shibir, the Sena's real rival. If theShravani sat on the plate in the hope of breaking the holyfast of Monday, then the BJP may have decided that thehost should raise a pipe from the bowl. DevendraFadnavis has worn saffron garments on the shoulders ofmany Gangas in the last few years. Imagine for a secondyou were transposed into the karmic driven world of Earl. But the pain that Narayanrao Rane is giving is more thanthat. It's like red chili powder on a burning wound. Leaderswho have faced allegations all their lives would either callthem their own, for that they would see ED, CBI, etc.,who are following others, biting their wrists, they wouldbe promoted directly as ministers at the Center and thenin the name of 'Jana Aashirwad' Yatra !! The relationshipbetween BJP and Narayanrao Rane would be a goodexample if one wants to understand how much one's painshould not end.“The real tragedy of today's BJP is thatthe leader who could not even hold his assemblyconstituency once or twice, who also saw the defeat ofSon in the Lok Sabha, has to bear the brunt of theCongress. Rane's political prowess is like that of a fastbowler named Sreesanth. Simply style aggressive. Thevictims are nothing. Seeing that aggression, one mustthink that he is a bowler! But even a simple batsman wouldhit sixes and fours on the ball thrown by that aggression. This is the political career of Narayan Rane. Just an attack. The result is zero. In fact, if the BJP had not come,Narayan Rane would have given a lifelong allegation toDamania of AAP like Kirit Somaiya. But after this change,BJP understood Rane more than Somaiya, who remainedyoung even after so many years. By spending all the gooddeeds required for BJP entry, Rane got BJP entry andalso got the post of Union Minister. Poor Somaiya couldnot even get the candidature. Anyway. Kirit Somaiya isnot the subject of this editorial. He is Narayan Rane.“Inpolitics, utility and nuisance have to be equal. If there isonly utility, then like many old BJP leaders, one has toshoulder the burden of others for the rest of one's life. Itdoesn't work in spite of the nuisance. The ratio of thesetwo should be equal. This will now be investigated on theoccasion of Rane's promotion. The upcoming MumbaiMunicipal Election is Rane's usefulness and also hisnuisance. The leaders of the state BJP, whose word isstill running, do not want to hand over the responsibilityof this election to efficient leaders like Ashish Shelar. Don'tknow what to do if BJP Shelar wins! Their weight willincrease more in the party. Apart from Mumbai BJP leaderShelar, all the other parasites are Patrak Bahadur.Narayan Rane is the other leader who should be left inthe Shiv sena in exchange for a ministerial post. SinceMumbai is given a ministerial post at the Center, there isno need to give anything more to Rane if Mumbai wins,

The original nature is gone!

It should be noted thatthe nationalism of 'inde-pendent' India can befree from sectarianfears.“On the eve of In-dependence Day, thePrime Minister an-nounced that August14 would henceforth beknown as the Day ofRemembrance of Par-tition. He also said thatthis day will be a day ofsocial unity. If socialcohesion is the goal ofthis day, as the PrimeMinister says, it wouldbe a welcome thing. But unfortunately thehistory of the last sevenyears tells us some-thing different. That iswhy the PrimeMinister's announce-ment raises concernsabout socialcohesion.“When it wasdecided that NarendraModi would be theBJP's prime ministerialcandidate in 2014, hestarted theSadbhavana Yatra inGujarat. His expressionof goodwill towards theMuslim community inthe wake of the Gujaratriots was a very reas-suring and welcomething to many. Manythought that whenNarendra Modi becamethe Prime Minister, hewould literally treatpeople of all religions inthe society as the PrimeMinister. Some eventhought that the leaderof the party who ac-cused others ofpseudo-secular ismwould show by his be-havior what 'true secu-larism' means.“But inthe seven years sincehe took office, theprime minister, hiscabinet colleagues andhis party leaders haveoften acted directly orindirectly in defiance ofhis declaration of'Sabka Saath'. Thereare many instances inwhich even the limits ofcivility and at least hu-manity have beencrossed by the leadersthrough statementsand convenient silence. It was all done veryopenly. This raisesstrong suspicions thatthis Fear of Partitionwill be used to trulyachieve social cohe-sion or to further dis-trust and hatred to-wards the minoritycommunity in India.“On15th August 1947, thecountry celebrated In-dependence Day withhigh hopes, despite theheartache of partition. Itwas nationalism thatbelieved that our reli-gious identity and ouridentity as Indians werecompletely different.According to this na-tionalism, Christianityand Islam are not 'out-side' religions either, asIndia was created out ofa conflict with the Brit-ish. Before the arrival ofthe British, India wasnot a nation-state. Na-tionalism knew that theword "nation" had nomeaning unless it hada definite geographicalboundary and an armythat defended it, a cen-tral state. This nation-

alism also consideredthe people, religion andculture of the peoplewho came and settledhere before the emer-gence of a nation calledIndia as their own. Thisnotion of Hinduism-Muslim relations wasnot in the imagination ofIndia. This relationshipis very complex and ithas beautiful culturalblends as well as ex-treme conflicts, thisnationalism knew. Butwithout carrying theburden of history, thedream was to create amodern India based onthe values of individualfreedom in the consti-tution, emphasizing itscultural connotations. Amodern country is notjust a country that usesmodern science andtechnology. A moderncountry is a countryrooted in a society inwhich every person hasan inherent dignity, re-gardless of the religionor caste in which he orshe is born. It was adaunting task to dreamlike this against thebackdrop of partitionwounds. However, theleadership of Gandhi-Nehru-Patel and othersdared to dream a newdream by overcomingthe burden of this pain-ful history. In the last 70-75 years, this dreamhas been shatteredmany times. But thatdream came true. Oneof the reasons for thisis the shoulder to shoul-der contribution ofpeople of all faiths in thefreedom struggle.“Butin recent times, thisdream has been shat-tered. The nationalismcreated by the indepen-dence movement andthat idea of India is nowon the verge of politicaldefeat. Since the Modigovernment came topower in 2014, the pro-cess has intensified.Today, a new form ofnationalism and theresulting idea of Indiais beginning to take itstol l on the Indianmind.“The question is,can the new India inthis idea be 'indepen-dent'? So, mentally, can this India ever be-come free and inde-pendent? The reasonfor raising this ques-tion is that the culturalnat ional ism of theSangh-BJP deniesthat Indian national-ism was formed out ofconflict with the Brit-ish. He traces theroots of Indian nation-alism to the history ofIndia hundreds ofyears before the for-mation of India as asovereign statepower, loyal to thatpower and a guardianof certain geographi-cal boundaries. Therefore, accordingto this nationalism,Christianity and Islamare religions that havecome from 'outside'.The accompanyingcultures and lifestylesalso come from'outside'.“Conflicts inmedieval history areat the heart of this

(cultural) nationalism.Where there is con-troversy about exactlywhat happened evenin recent history, it isvery difficult to sayunequivocally whatexactly happened inmedieval history. Andhow complicated thathistory is too. Thenthe political ideologytries to determine ex-actly what happenedin this history. Marxisthistorians look at ev-erything from a classperspective, just aspeople influenced bythe Sangh-BJP's ide-ology of cultural na-t ional ism tel l howruthless and cruel ev-ery Muslim king was.It is wrong to look atthe events of medievalhistory with today'svalues in mind. But itis done and it is alsovery clever. It is alsopart of it to paint aconvenient picture ofMuslim kings.“OnceIslam and Islamic cul-ture are considered tobe 'external', everysign of that culture isa sign of the victory offoreigners over Hin-dus. The grandeur ofthe Red Fort, the loftygates of FatehpurSikri, the beauty of theTaj Mahal, the delica-cies of ghazals andUrdu, and the deli-cious taste of biryanicannot be denied, butfrankly, they are allpart of our own cul-ture. Such a problemwas not in the nation-al ism of Gandhi-Nehru-Sardar Patel. This nat ional ismcould assume that allthese things are ours. Therefore, India neverfelt the mental need tochange Al igarh toHarigarh. He said In-dia was free. Becausehe did not considerany religion or cultureto be 'external'.“Butthe nationalism of theR a s h t r i y aS w a y a m s e v a kSangh-BJP cannot beso free in principle.Muslims have lived inthis country for hun-dreds of years and willcontinue to do so. Andthe fact that traces ofIs lamic cul ture forhundreds of years willremain in all spheresof Indian life has al-ways plagued theSangh Sangh BJP'snationalism. There isno escape from this.No matter how muchthe BJP gains overallpower and leadershiplike Narendra Modi forthe next 50 years, thisnationalism will remainentrenched in medievalhistory and will con-tinue to suffer defeat.Under the influence ofthis nationalism, Indiacannot be free from theshackles ofhistory.“Any national-ism is in danger of be-coming hostile. And outof that comes huge vio-lence. But the con-structive possibility ofnationalism is that itcan also be useful forbuilding social cohe-sion and brotherhood.

and if there is a defeat in Mumbai, then Rane is the one tobreak the shackles of that defeat. In this way, Rane becomessuch a utilitarian for the BJP.“But it seems from his behaviorthat Rane himself must have forgotten this. Narendra Modi'scabinet seems to have been misunderstood to mean thatwe will be really capable and so on. But if his allegedaccomplishment was the criterion, then Rane would not havehad to sit so long for something to fall on his plate even aftercoming to BJP. In other words, if there were no MumbaiMunicipal Corporation elections, Rane would still be waitinghand in hand. Realizing this fact, Rane's utilitarianism wasreplaced by nuisance. But the line on the black stone will beextremely useful for the rival Shiv Sena if their nuisancecontinues to spread. Indian voters have an extraordinary skill.Anyone who looks at political history will know that it is timeto put a heel on the heads of many leaders who bragged onthe battlefield using the language of teaching a lesson tosomeone. Voters are not taken into account here. Assumingthat, Rane must take guidance from Devendra Fadnavis.“ButRane doesn't think you have anything to learn, that's the realproblem with his progress. It's hard for them to figure outwhat's going on. Rane was the soda of Maharashtra, but hecould not become the leader of Konkan province either. Still, their confidence is commendable. But psychology says thatthe more insecure a person is, the more aggressive he is.So Rane should think about whether his aggression is likethis. They should also be aware of what will happen to themif they fail in Mumbai Municipal Corporation like their Kudalconstituency. If that happens, the new BJP will not be usefulto them and it will mean that the nuisance power is gone. Itwould be very unfortunate if this happened.“That's enoughbeauty. As a one-time Shiv sena leader, he should know thatShiv Sena will benefit if we continue to behave like this. Shivsena also needs to think about how much of this tension. There is wisdom in giving up many things. As Saint Tukaramsays, ‘Before there was a tiger. Then (by chance) ithappened. His Yelkot remained. Both of them should takenote of the original nature.

Such Patience, So Welcome! There is no doubt that Article 370 was meant to obscure thehistory of Jammu and Kashmir, which gave a new twist to thehistory of independent India. However, even after two years ofreversing this decision, the old criticism of the ruling BJP hasnot been seen. "They want to keep Kashmir, they don't thinkthe people there are theirs," he said. The allegation was madeearlier by P Chidambaram, a former Union Home Minister whohandled the Kashmir issue. While the BJP has not been able totake any chance to prove that it is non-existent, a welcomedevelopment has taken place recently. The ban on both theextremist and Maoist factions of the Hurriyat Conference, aKashmiri separatist group, was considered by the central gov-ernment and will be postponed for now, official sources said onMonday. Nearly two decades ago, the group's emphasis wason inciting acts of violence, such as stone-throwing, but keep-ing a distance from direct terrorist acts. The All-Party HurriyatConference was succeeding in branding itself as a mass orga-nization, despite allegations that it was the bitter fruit ofPakistan's ISI. Over the past decade, the power of this organi-zation has waned. Syed Ali Shah Gilani's faction was divided, while Mirwaiz Umar Farooq's faction fell apart. But Sehrai diedin captivity a few months ago due to corona. Mirwaiz UmarFarooq of the Maoist group remained in custody like the lead-ers of other political parties in Srinagar and continued to makedemands like 'give state status first' and 'restore Article 370'.But even before the bilateral talks with India in August 2014, theHurriyat leaders were summoned by the Pakistani foreign min-istry, at the same time as the organization was blacklisted. Thetechnique of detaining or imprisoning her leaders has been usedever since. Now that the group's influence has waned, it shouldbe killed, according to intelligence experts. However, high-rank-ing officials in the central internal security department were saidto be adamant

Shopping, Pizzas And Medicines:India’s Drone Rules 2021 Acknowledge

Role In Global Drone EconomyDrones carry two very distinct streams of per-ception. One is of being a rich kid’s toy or theindulgence of those with means who can get theirshopping and pizzas delivered by unmanned fly-ing vehicles. The other is one of opening doorsto the sort of utility and reach that otherwisewouldn’t be possible by roads or waterways, forinstance. If we are to emerge from the narrowdefinitions that drones seem to be wrapped in,there are two sides of the coin that indicate theseas the trump card in a variety of domains. Fromcritical and precise intervention for agricultureover large areas, to delivering medicines in farreaches of the geographical boundaries to de-livering goods with zero human interaction. Ver-satility of dronesis somethingIndia’s DroneRules 2021 ac-knowledge andtry to makethings easier tobuild up their usein India. The Min-istry Of CivilAviation of theGovernment ofIndia has offi-cially notified therules, followingup from the draftpolicy releasedearlier this sum-mer. The newrules defineownership for private and commercial drones inIndia, drone usage and approvals, weight clas-sifications, registration of existing drones, zonalrestrictions and airspace maps, remote pilot li-censes as well as training organization as wellas a push for Made in India technologies, de-signs, components, and unmanned aircraft sys-tems as well as Indian regional navigation satel-lite systems. These rules are taking cognizanceof the fact that it has to be made easier for droneusage to be deployed, particularly for businessand community usage, and also India’s role andimportance in the global drone economy.“Weexpect that almost all sectors of the economylike - agriculture, mining, infrastructure, sur-veillance, emergency response, transporta-tion, geo-spatial mapping, defense, and lawenforcement shall gain tremendously fromthese rules,” says Abhay Karandikar, Directorat IIT Kanpur. “A welcome move to push theIndian Drone Industry towards new heights,”says the Drone Federation of India in a state-ment shared on social media. The numbers telltheir own story. The Indian UAV drones mar-ket is expected to be as large as $1.8 billionby the year 2026, with an annual growth of

14.61%, that’s according to numbers releasedthis summer by research f irmResearchAndMarkets. Earlier this month, asuccessful Beyond Visual Line of Sight(BVLOS) trial run for drone delivery of medi-cines in Bengaluru was piloted by the ThrottleAerospace Systems (TAS) and UDAN (UdeDesh ka Aam Naagrik). The ministry of CivilAviation of the Government of India confirmedthat this trial run was completed in the 15kmradius at Gauribidanur, in the outskirts ofBengaluru. The drones used for this trial wereMedcopter X4 and Medcopter X8. These aredeveloped by Indian drone company ThrottleAerospace Systems, which is Bengaluru

based. The stats—an average of 3.5km dis-tance was covered in up to 7 minutes of flyingtime. Two different payloads were tested aswell, up to a maximum of 2kg. The MedcopterX4 weighs around 3.5kg and can hold pay-loads of up to 1kg while the Medcopter X8weighs around 5.5kg and can hold payloadsup to 2kg. According to the new rules, both thesedrones would be classified as Small unmannedaircraft system.“Today, some of the most excit-ing potential applications come from the use ofdrones in the healthcare and medical deliver-ies. Drones are effectively delivering biologicalslike blood, serums, viral culture, vaccines andorgans in the fastest and safest manner whichis helping in saving millions of lives,” Wing Com-mander S Vijay (Veteran), had told News18, inan interaction earlier. “It is high time we think ofa future where packages would reach in min-utes instead of hours or days,” he had added. Aresearch report led by John Hopkins BloombergSchool of Public Health indicated that drones inthe medical field have the possibility of improv-ing vaccination rates and aid in various immuni-zation programs held globally.

Drone Rules 2021 in India: CasualUse of Drones Can Grow Big with

Relaxed NormsThe new Drone Rules 2021 in India are here, and have signalled a major move by the centralgovernment to liberalise and ease the erstwhilestringent regulation of drones in India. The movehas a number of implications, starting with thecommercial sector – where the government hasannounced the setting up of a council to helpframe a drone regulatory framework that sup-ports businesses, increased the payload limitof drones to include heavier drones, and also

announced the introduction of a drone corridorfor cargo deliveries. The new Drone Rules 2021signify a move of clear intent from the govern-ment to promote drones in India, and this movecan have a key impact on casual users and ev-eryday individuals owning drones for recreationalusage. At the heart of why the new Drone Rules2021 may help cause a growth in private droneowners in India is the announcement that peopleowning and flying micro drones and nanodrones for non-commercial purposes will notbe required to owning a drone pilot’s licence. Intandem, the government has also reduced theYellow Zone in the Indian airspace to 12km,down from 45km before. The Yellow Zone is anintermediate flying zone where only strictly

regulated airspace activity is permitted, andreduction of this zone means larger chunks ofareas falling within the Green Zone – where pri-vate owners and users would be allowed to flyand operate their drones. The new Drone Rules2021 also mandate the establishment of theDigital Sky Platform online portal, which can beused to apply online to register drones, and getthe registration document easily as well. As aresult, casual users may also be able to host

drone racesand otherrecreationalactivities le-gally, India.Drone rac-ing is typi-cally seen asan attractivecasual sportin variousnations, andwith theliberalisation, more dronesand dronemakers frominternationalm a r k e t smay alsomake their

products available in India. All of this suggeststhat with the government making drones moreeasily accessible for all, private owners ofdrones are bound to grow.On both commercialand research fronts, the new Drone Rules 2021have been largely greeted on a positive note.Nishant Pitt i , co-founder and CEO ofEaseMyTrip, stated, “The new rules have beenlauded by stakeholders for simplifying proce-dures and reducing the compliance burden.”The research and development sector has alsoreacted positively to the new regulations. What's in a Setting? Ask a buddingstand-up comedy curator — Zoomfatigue and fall in open mic culture

Movies and shows, old and new, have helped us to live vicariouslythrough them. They have allowedus to travel far and wide at a timeborders are shut and people arerestricted to homes. In our new col-umn What's In A Setting, we explorethe inseparable association of astory with its setting, how the loca-tion complements the narrative, andhow these cultural windows to theworld have helped broaden ourimagination. When I first started per-forming stand-up comedy, I knew itwas only a matter of time before Iwould start organising shows. I’dbeen interested in curation evenbefore I started performing, analysing line-ups of comics andcoming up, with my own dream line-up, which I changed every other day. When my boyfriend R and I firststarted producing, we started toapproach every restaurant and barwe entered with a different lens.

Which ones would work as a com-edy room?If you’ve gone to a com-edy club, you’d realise that most ofthem look the same across theworld. You have people sitting closetogether, a dark room with a spot-light on the performer, and a greataudio system. You need the doorto be closed with no sound or dis-turbance from outside able to per-colate. Low ceilings are great too.The logic is simple, if you think aboutit. Laughter is involuntary andspreads rapidly. It helps if the soundof the laughter can travel and growin a room. The audience has to sitclose and comfortably together, sothey feel part of a group. It’s justeasier for them to laugh then. It’snot just the physical aspect. A lotof comedy (like any art) is aboutcontext-building. The best showshappen when the audience al-ready knows your context — onereason why famous and popularcomedians don’t need to investtime to build it for their fans.Someone who’s been watchingyou closely for a decade alreadyknows what kind of life you leadand what your beliefs are. Fornewer comics, there’s always ahost in a stand-up show — set-ting context, and also setting ex-pectations at the start of the show, and between each comic. Whatsin a Setting Ask a budding standupcomedy curator Zoom fatigue andfall in open mic cultureStill fromThe Marvellous Mrs.MaiselUnfortunately, across theworld, most comedians don’t startout performing in a comedy club.Open mics take place in shadyrestaurants and bars, in yoga stu-dios, and salons. These placescan’t turn their décor inside out forcomedy at night. The setting hereis not always ideal. Often, espe-cially in restaurants, the audienceis there just to eat. Comedy isnothing more than backgroundnoise. Yet, comedians are taughtfrom day 1, to not complain aboutthe setting. People aren’t there towatch you? No problem. Kunal Kapoor, Dino Morea discuss theircharacters in The Empire, and the chinks

in their armourDisney+ Hotstar's new web show The Empire, based

on the novel Empire of the Moghul: Raiders from the Northby Alex Rutherford, seems like a treat for period drama buffs. The trailer, which was released earlier this month, seeslarger-than-life characters, majestic costumes, imposing setdesigns, and anensemble featuringKunal Kapoor, DinoMorea, ShabanaAzmi, DrashtiDhami, Aditya Seal,Sahher Bambba, and RahulDev.Created byNikkhil Advani anddirected byMitakshara Kumar, the epic traces thesaga of an empirefrom the valley ofFerghana toSamarkhand andbeyond. The Empirefollows the story ofthe first MughalEmperor Babur(Kapoor), who wascrowned the king of Fergana at a young age, soon afterwhich, he conquered Samarkand, only to lose both Ferganaand Samarkand to rival princes. However, his menacing rivalMuhammad Shaybani (Morea), in an attempt to ensure apeace settlent over Samarkand, proposes marriage toBabur's sister Khanzada (Dami), leading to furthercomplications.Kapoor and Morea, in a conversation withFirstpost, spoke about their respective characters, prep, andapproachto the series, and why OTT has become agamechanger for their career. You both lead the series, playcharacters who are very imposing, authoritative in their ownright. Please tell us what made you say yes to the role?Morea:

I was intrigued right at the moment when I first heard thewhole story, figured what Nikhil and Mitakshara were tryingto show. The character I play, Shaybani Khan, is one of thebest characters I have ever heard in my life. He is thenegative lead, and for me, that was an opportunity to kind of

sink my teeth into a role and come up with some magicwhere the audience hasn’t seen me in a long time. Theywill see in a new light, and hopefully appreciate what I havedone here. So my whole agenda to choose this characterwas purely selfish, basically to excel and do well as anactor.Kapoor: I had incidentally read the book a few monthsago before I was approached for the role. I found it veryintriguing, especially the world, the drama, the relationships, all of that. Even I thought it would be great content. Andwhen I got a call from Nikkhil, I was obviously very excited, but I was also a little hesitant because sometimes you mighthave a great source material

for years to work through how the album cover affected him, said Maggie Mabie, one of his lawyers. “He hasn’t met any-one who hasn’t seen his genitalia,” she said. “It's a constantreminder that he has no privacy. His privacy is worthless tothe world.”“Defendants knowingly produced, possessed, andadvertised commercial child pornography depicting Spen-

cer, and they knowingly received value in exchange for do-ing so,” according t the lawsuit, which was filed Tuesday infederal court in California.Elden suffered “permanent harm”because of his association with the album, including emo-tional distress and a “lifelong loss of income-earning ca-pacity.” The lawsuit did not provide details about thelosses, and said they would be disclosed at trial.“Theywere trying to create controversy because controversysells,” Mabie said. “The point was not just to create a men-acing image but to cross the line, and they did so in a waythat exposed Spencer so that they could profit off of it.”Shesaid her client sometimes agreed when the band, mediaoutlets, and fans asked him to recreate the photo as anadult, but he eventually realised that this only resulted inthe “image of him as a baby being further exploited.”Mabiesaid his parents never authorised consent for how theimages would be used. She noted that Cobain once sug-gested putting a sticker over the baby’s genitals after therewas pushback to the idea for the cover. The performer, who died in 1994, said the sticker should read: “If you’reoffended by this, you must be a closet pedophile.”hat haveboth parties said on the case? The representatives forCobain’s estate did not immediately respond to a mes-sage seeking comment.

As COVID-19 casescontinue to surgethroughout the UnitedStates, demand formonoclonal antibodytreatments is spiking, especially in areas ofthe country with lowv a c c i n a t i o nrates.According to theFood and Drug Admin-istration (FDA)TrustedSource, this experi-mental treatment uses“laboratory-made pro-teins that mimic theimmune system’s abil-ity to fight off harmfulantigens such as vi-ruses” like SARS-CoV-2.It’s especially usefulfor people with weak-ened immune systemswho may not generatea robust response tothe COVID-19 vac-cines, and for others athigh risk of severe ill-ness.While mono-clonal antibodies canstart to clear thecoronavirus withinhours of being infusedintravenously (IV) intothe body, this treatmentmay not work foreveryone. That’s whyexperts recommendthat people get fullyvaccinated againstCOVID-19, which isknown to prevent se-vere illness and hospi-talization due to thedisease. How domoclonal antibodieswork? monoclonal an-tibody is a laboratory-produced protein thatfunctions like the anti-bodies made by theimmune system in re-sponse to infection.Bybinding to a specificmolecule on a virus orbacteria — known asan antigen — a mono-

India's Aspiration to Become RegionalPower Can't Rely on Borrowed

Strength: CDS Bipin RawatNew Delhi: India's aspiration to become a regional power can't rely onborrowed strength and the nation's wars have to be won with indigenousequipment and technology, Chief of Defence Staff Bipin Rawat said onFriday. Addressing an event held by the Institution Of Electronics andTelecommunication Engineers, he said the segregated nature of thedefence commercial industry ecosystem in India restricts its capacity tomanufacture defence equipment."We cannot be import-dependent if wehave to fight and win future wars. Indigenisation, therefore, is the wayforward and we in the armed forces are fully committed to it," Rawatsaid. "Our nation's aspiration of becoming a regional power cannot relyon borrowed strength… India's wars have to be won with Indian solutions,"he said. The pervasiveness of information and the pace of technologicalchange is transforming the very character of warfare and providinginnovative ways of warfare that would be non-contact (no physicalcontact) in particular, the Chief of Defence Staff said. "It includesinformation operations, stealing of intellectualproperty rights, economic inducements— all backed up bypropaganda in the timeof fake news to justifytheir actions," headded."The air defencecapabilities of ourarmed forces are at thecusp of modernisationwith acquisition of Rafales, S-400, ballistic missile defence system, Akashweapon system and progressive replacement of the legacy air defencesystems that we have in our inventory today," Rawat noted. However, keeping in mind the macro-economic parameters and socio-economicrequirements of India, the best solutions have to be found throughacquisitions and optimisation or up-gradation of legacy systems andthrough indigenous manufacturing, he said."We will be able to use oureconomics or the budgetary allocations made to the armed forces in abetter way if we develop our systems indigenously," the Chief of DefenceStaff mentioned. The pursuit of disruptive technologies such as artificialintelligence, robotics, nanotechnology, big data analysis, drones, autonomous unmanned systems, militarisation of space, cyber warfare, quantum communications along with the manipulation of social mediaare all leading to new threats further complicating the security environmenttoday, Rawat said.Enabling technologies such as artificial intelligenceand quantum computing are being used to produce sophisticatedautonomous weapons that will accelerate the pace of combat, hementioned. "While these technologies keep shaping the contours of thethreat, they also provide with us an opportunity to acquire new militarycapabilities to our strategic advantage." Rawat said the military value ofthe ballistic missiles will increase over the next decade with the productionof hypersonic gliders and alternative warheads that are capable ofbreaking into increasingly powerful missile defence systems. The armedforces must be prepared for a future conflict with this changed characterof warfare, he added.

"But it seemsthe seven assembly seg-ments are freed of COVID-19 … It seems that the TMCgovernment driven by des-peration to conduct the by-poll is even ready to declarethe assembly segments asCOVID free zones. government's 'Lakshmir Bhandar'scheme showed that Banerjee's claim ofall round social development in West Ben-gal is a "hoax". "Had there been actual im-provement in the economic condition ofpeople in villages and in urban areas, women would not have to rush in thou-sands to the (Lakshmir Bhandar) campsto collect a form which will only provideRs 500 in their accounts every month. This shows the real economic progressof Bengal".
