As the day turns to evening, a girl’s A.M. look needs a little help to make her stand out in the midst of the

electric nightlife. Try out a couple of these tips to amp up your look the next time

you go out for a few drinks.

E y e s : *Darkening the crease with a deep brown or a charcoal

will smoke out a daytime look without making others wonder if you got into a fight.

*Popping on a glitter liner over or parallel to your existing liner will add a sparkly twist.

*A pair of false eyelashes always turns up the drama.

C h e e k s :*A highlighter on the cheekbones and brow bone will dazzle your

face with dimension as it lifts your face and adds a superstar glow.

*Add a touch of a brighter blush to the apples of your cheeks to give your complexion a sudden radiance.

L i p s :*A deeper color (reds, plums, berries) rather than a soft,

natural color instantly switches the clock from A.M. to P.M. Don’t forget a liner!

*Pop a gloss on top of a lip color for a really stand-out pucker.

Make UpStarter

KitThe esssentials for any makeup enthusiast

By: Gary WongFor any girl, a morning makeup routine is crucial, whether to erase the signs of a late night, or simply enhance your natural features. Unfortunately, we’ve all seen the outcome of a makeup regimen that just doesn’t seem to have everything in place. Follow these tips to find the best

makeup basics.

1.Skincare: In the morning, use a moisturizer with an SPF of 20 or higher. It’s the perfect way to give

yourself a little protection throughout the day.

2.Prep: A foundation and eye shadow primer are your insurance policy for a long-wearing look. But

beware of Silicone-based primers, they can cause breakouts!

3.Foundation: Choose a foundation or tinted moisturizer that is the most appropriate for your skin type. Keep in mind the time of year, and how much your skin tone (and skin type) will change. Make sure

that you update your foundation to suit your skin’s needs. Tip: Not everyone requires a full-coverage foundation. Try out a formula with light-medium coverage. You’ll be surprised by how

well they can hide problem areas.

4.Concealer: To erase those dark circles, find a pink-toned corrector to cancel the darkness, and then follow it with a yellow-toned concealer to visibly lift and brighten the under-eye area. For blemishes and other unwelcome guests, use a concealer that matches your foundation to avoid highlighting,

and bringing attention to any problem areas.

5.Powder: A setting powder (NOT a powder foundation) is crucial in ensuring the longevity of your foundation. It will also help absorb any excess shine that may appear during the day.

6.Bronzer: Look at the color of your upper chest, and check to see if the color falls into the

Cinnamon or Golden category. Choose a bronzer that matches your respective category for the most natural look.

Page 19: Clutch Magazine - Spring 2013

19

7.Blush: Pay attention to the color of your lips without any lip product on. Find a blush that matches

that color to add a natural flush appropriate for any occasion.

8.Lips: Lip color should play off of your natural lip color, whether it be a few shades lighter, or a few

shades darker. Add a gloss to accessorize a lip color, or keep it easy by itself.

9.Brows: Put down the pencil, and reach for a powder eye shadow that is 1-2 shades lighter than

your hair color (NEVER use black!). The powder formula will keep your brows looking softer and more natural.

10.Eye shadow: Neutral browns, champagnes, and warm coppers all make a great color palette to use for

everyday eyes. Keep in mind the deeper the color, the more intense the look.

11.Liner: Gel eyeliner is a girl’s best friend for its durability, control, and opacity. With a gel eyeliner,

there is no smudging, flaking, or running.

NAIL FILES: COLOR BLOCKINGStress Relief

Three simple ways to relieve stress, mentally and physically

By: Bethany Pichard

Classes, work, extracurricular activities, money, relationships, and bad hair days are all things that add stress to our daily lives. It’s impossible to

eliminate stress completely, but there are ways to combat it by boosting your mental and physical health.

1) Catch up on your REM sleep. Many experts recommend getting extra hours of sleep at night to wake up feeling ready to tackle the day. REM

sleep, which occurs in five different stages that are repeated throughout the night, leaves us feeling refreshed and well-rested. To find out how much

REM sleep you need each night, visit http://sleepyti.me/.

2) Hang out with friends. Meeting up with friends is a great way to unwind, whether you go to the gym, see a movie, or visit the mall for some retail

therapy. A healthy social life naturally decreases stress levels.

3) Last but not least, RELAX! A great way to get rid of tension and anxiety throughout the day is by practicing Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR). PMR involves a process of repeatedly tensing and relaxing your muscles. Every time you relax your muscles and breathe out, say the word “relax.”

After much practice, the word alone will help your body instantly de-stress.

will be a breeze.

Step 2: Step 3: Step 4:Paint your nails with one of your

two colors.

Now the fun part, create a design! We chose one of the hottest

trends for spring,color blocking.

Don’t Be A Hunch- Back{ Quick Tips on Improving Your Posture

By: Brittney Widel

It’s embarrassing enough when you realize you’re slouching in your seat, but what about when someone else points it out to you? It makes you wonder:

How long have I been sitting like that?

Though slouching has become a bit of a habit for all of us in college (we blame sitting on the computer doing homework), there are easy ways to fix this

common problem. You’ll be surprised by how a good posture will enhance not only your physical appearance, but your confidence level as well.

1.Ladies, this is the last thing you want to hear, but: wear shoes with arch support. High heels offset the body’s proper stance, sending your upper body

forward.

2.Make an effort not to push your head out, especially while driving, by being conscious of your head touching the headrest behind.

3.Practice Pilates, Yoga, and Barre. The natural movements of these exercises are meant to properly align the muscles and joints in the body. Luckily, FSU’s

Leach Center offers Yoga and Barre Lean classes.

4.Strengthen your core and sit up tall. We know you’re working on that bikini-bod, and improving your posture will help keep your mid-section from

sticking out.

5.Sit at the edge of your chair while browsing online or writing a paper. Plant your feet flat on the ground, keep your head back, push your shoulders

down, and don’t hunch forward. Something as simple as sitting tall will bring awesome results.

Lifesaving Tips for Your Cosmetics

By: Bailey BrownStep 1: Keep a lid on it

Caps and lids are here to serve and protect. They prevent the product from drying out, and

keep it clear of bacterial contamination.

Step 2: Avoid heat and moistureMakeup contains oils that oxidize over time, causing them to go bad. Heat increases the

rate of these chemical reactions, which in turn speeds up the growth of bacteria. Storing your cosmetics in a low-temperature, low-moisture environment helps them last their longest. Tip:

The refrigerator is one of the best places to store your beauty products.

Step 3: Doctor it up

Any compact powder product can be reset with a bit of alcohol. The alcohol will

evaporate and return the product to its original form. So fear not, the devastation of your

cracked blush can be reversed!

When nail polish becomes thick and difficult to use, a few drops of nail polish thinner will

make your polish as good as new.

To revive your lipstick, scoop what’s left out of its barrel, and into a palette or small plastic jar. Blast the lipstick with a blow dryer until

smooth, then place in the freezer to set.

Old or unused bronzer can be mixed with moisturizer to create a highlighter for the face

and body.

When your makeup products finally do meet their unfortunate, but inevitable expiration, don’t just toss them. Many makeup companies offer recycling programs; a few even offer a free gift as an incentive to be environmentally conscious.

Resume

boutiquesv

barneysw

a how-to guide to landing your dream internshipby: cara wolkowitz

The first step is to find a company to interview with.

There are many helpful websites where programs post the necessary qualifications,

dates, and responsibilities for prospective interns. Websites like www.freefashioninternships.com and www.fashionista.com allow you to filter by

location, job type, and recent postings.

Companies receive resumes and

cover letters from people of all ages and experience, so it’s

important to make yours worthy of a phone interview. Fashion is a creative

industry; employers appreciate design and personality on a resume. Playing with font is an easy way to make your resume stand out above the rest. Try using Helvetica or Century Gothic for something a little more modern, and less typical than Times New

Roman. However, make sure it says professional and innovative, not

Elle Woods.It is

also important to stay one step ahead

of the competition. Bridge the gap between you, and your internship by running a blog,

creating a website, or designing a magazine (like CLUTCH!). Not only do they look great on your resume, but show initiative, and

are fun too!

Securing a fashion dream job may sound far-fetched for a recently graduated 22 year old, and it’s no secret that employers are looking for more than just a fly pair of wingtips or perfect sock

bun. Above all, they’re looking for experience. It’s never too early to apply for your first internship, nor does it hurt to start locally. Once you have at least a summer of experience under your belt,

bigger firms will be more willing to take a chance on you.

Intermix: Just bought by Gap, Inc. for a stunning $130 million, the small-chain luxury retailer not only plans to help Gap collaborate with up-and-coming labels, but also double

their store count, and expand abroad.

American Glamour: According to experts at Women’s Wear Daily, you can expect US-based labels to bring the hottest-moving items of 2013. Attitudes are changing from day or night

outfits to transitional-use wear, and American brands like Rag & Bone, J. Crew, and Vince will be on the rise to provide these essential, sleek looks.

INTERN AND THE CITY

1*la

A practical guide to choosing your internship destinationBy: Michelle Collins

PROS Film and Music Culture.

Home to A&M Records, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and Capitol Records,

it’s safe to say that the most important site in the US for movie and television production is LA. If you’re interested in a career in film or music, Los Angeles will certainly be your best bet. When any major

music artist goes on tour, it’s a sure thing that LA will be a tour location, which will give you the chance to see many performances while interning. Los Angeles is also known for hosting many film festivals throughout the year, perfect for an

aspiring screenwriter or director. CONS

Traffic. Los Angeles is notorious for excruciating bumper-to-bumper traffic during peak rush hour times. If your internship requires you to drive, do anything to avoid Pacific Coast Highway, as it is full of traffic lights and an influx of motorists. Keep

in mind that Friday and Saturday’s traffic is going to be worse in the city, as locals will be trying to flee town for the weekend. Lastly, learn to tune into

local talk radio, such as KNX AM News Radio 1070, which usually features six traffic reports an hour. If all else fails, you can

always look into taking a public transportation line, such as the Metrolink or Metro Rail.

You’ve heard it a million times over from professors and your parents alike: you’ll never get a job out of college without doing an internship first. So, you’ve decided to begin your search for one, but don’t know which city you’d like to venture to. The following are a few pros and cons for three of America’s top cities for student internship programs.

Page 33: Clutch Magazine - Spring 2013

nyc

miami

PROS You’ll Be In the Center of

Everything. One of the perks of living in a city that spans 23 square miles with a population of almost 2 million people is that anything you could

ever need is just a few steps beyond your closet-sized studio apartment. You can grab your morning coffee, walk to the office,

hop next door for a quick lunch, and finish the day at your favorite bar for drinks with your new coworkers, all while staying within

a two block radius.CONS

Cost of Living. The average rent for an apartment in New York City is about $2,900 a month. If you’ve scored a killer internship, but it doesn’t pay, you may end up either taking a daily journey to and

from a more affordable place in the suburbs, or leaving with a huge dent in your wallet at the end of summer.

PROS The Beaches. If you’re a lover

of tropical weather and beach days, Miami may be the best option for you. It’s home to dozens of beautiful

white sand beaches, perfect for relaxing and maintaining your summer tan. If you get any free time off your internship, consider visiting

one of Miami’s most popular spots, South Beach. Here you can read a book, enjoy a cocktail from one of the many South Beach bars, or simply sit and do some

good old, tourist-themed people watching.CONS

Crime Rate. Miami’s violent crime rate is one of the highest in the nation, particularly in the areas of robbery and assault. If you’re leaving your internship late at night, try to walk with a coworker and park in a well-lit area. If you’re walking alone, take off

your flashy or expensive jewelry in advance, and walk with your car keys in hand. When driving, keep your car windows rolled up and doors locked

at all times. You don’t have to be completely paranoid, but be aware of your surroundings and trust your instincts.

What are they wearing to NYC Fashion Week?

By: Brittney Widel

Leave it up to Norr’easter Nemo to peg New York’s vibrant city in the middle of Fall 2013 Fashion Week. So what was the biggest trend seen outside the tents? Umbrellas. The snow and ice mixture pegged onlookers to and from Lincoln Center, but that didn’t stop fashionistas from dressing

to the nines in hope of getting a sneak peek into one of the most talked about events of the year. Lincoln Center was hopping with colors and patterns. Women and men alike swooned with

fur coats and scarves to keep warm. Models ran from tent to tent as quickly as possible. The true die-hard fashionistas managed to man the storm in the form of 6 inch stilettos and pose to take outfit

photos “jacket-less” outside for their internet following. Many times, it’s not about how great you look, but how much attention you can attract with

your outfit. The crazier the patterns, textiles, and colors, the more likely you are to get noticed.

As long as you can rock your outfit as hard as your outfit rocks you.

Why drop stacks on Derek Lam when you can DIY and look equally as elegant? Here at CLUTCH, we’re diehard patriots for the killer high-low brand mixing seen on every street

to glamorously spruce up your closet without spending all your spring break cash.

Obi belts and asymmetry and topknots, oh

How to Successfully Transform Runway Trends to Your Wardrobe

BY: Madeline Smith

Designers like Lela Rose, Phillip Lim and

Proenza Schouler all took a cue from the

70s-inspired trend to make a modern-day

version that was girly, not grandma’s quilt,

chic. Get eccentric with colors in dress or skirt

form and pair with classic pumps, a suede

moto jacket and chunky bangles to

echo proportions throughout.

As a fashionista on a college budget, sometimes it can feel like we are buying the same clothes over and over again. Clothing can look great on someone else, but when it comes to buying outfits for ourselves, the excuses are unending: it’s out of my comfort zone, I could never pull that off, and most commonly, I just don’t have the money right now. However, one of the best favors you can do for yourself (and your wardrobe) is allowing one impulse buy per month on a have-to-have that piece of clothing basis. This impulse buy will make you for-get all of the reasons why you shouldn’t get something, and instead, realize why you should! Adjust your budget to see how often you can afford an impulse piece (once a month, every three months, every six months, etc.), buy something that makes you feel fabulous, and don’t think twice about it. Watch as your wardrobe grows and your sense of style comes alive. Soon you will have something special to wear for every occasion, leaving you looking great, and feeling even better.

sole matesMany of us are familiar with the temptation of buying a great pair of shoes that are way

out of our price range. However, in the end we usually realize that the cost per wear of a particular pair just isn’t worth the money. As a shoes lover, it’s important to justify when it is

(and isn’t) acceptable to splurge on the shoes you just have to have.

While browsing for your perfect pair, it’s important to keep in mind the potential versatility of the shoe itself. If you’re drawn to footwear only because of the allure of the design, there’s a good chance they will see nothing more than the back of your closet. Instead, seek out

a pair of shoes that you envision yourself wearing on a daily basis. The ideal shoe will complement the majority of the wardrobe you already own.

This spring, CLUTCH is loving the high top sneaker. Not only are they comfortable, they are also versatile as they can be worn with a variety of outfits to create a casual-cool look. It’s okay to splurge on a trendier pair, as long as you keep in mind their intended use. For example, if you love Converse, choose a pair in a basic color like black or white that will

look great with any outfit.

Once you find a pair of shoes that complement you, your wardrobe, and your lifestyle, you’ve got yourself an everlasting pair of sole mates.

THAT COUNTS

what’s on the

on-campus items you shouldn’t be withoutConquer

your closet

1.Keep calm and clear outStep one to achieving an organized wardrobe is cleaning it out. Get rid of what

you don’t wear, but be realistic. If it hasn’t been worn in a year, get rid of it. Donate what is lightly used, and throw out the rest.

2.Give everything a placeOnce you’ve condensed your closet, you can assess the situation more clearly. As a rule of thumb, group like with like, and be sure to utilize all available space. Put the clothing you wear most often at eye level, and store seasonal items like

sweaters and jackets in the less convenient spaces.

3.Catalogue by colorOnce your clothes are in their respective areas, arrange by color within each

category.

4.Manage the miscellaneousThis part can be tricky, but it is important to keep your odds and ends under

control. Cubbies and hanging organizers are perfect for accessories like belts, purses, and jewelry.

5.MaintenanceCongratulations! You can now stand proudly in front of a neat and tidy closet,

but the work doesn’t end here. Continuous upkeep is necessary to keep your wardrobe in its best condition.

By: Bailey Brown

A busy schedule can lead to a chaotic closet, but with five

steps and a little patience, even those with no time for sleep can claim victory over the biggest wardrobe

As soon as you find your desired necklace, head outside (or to a well-ventilated area), and lay it on your old newspaper or magazine.

Being a little short on cash basically comes in the job description of a college student. While

saving money is important, it’s essential to invest in certain items that will benefit you greatly throughout college. Five items you

should treat yourself to are: a reliable school bag, a laptop, a pair of comfortable sneakers, a planner, and an umbrella. If you get quality items and spend more money now, chances are you won’t have to keep replacing them. The bag will come in handy when you have

classes all day and need somewhere to store your laptop, cell phone, or maybe even

lunch. A laptop will probably be your most beneficial purchase for college. Spending more money to ensure the quality of your laptop is a good idea so you don’t have to spend money getting a cheap computer

fixed often. Sneakers are also a must-have for walking across campus. Purchasing a reliable pair should last you a long time. A

planner is important to have to keep track of tests and assignments. Obviously you will have to replace this once a year, but make

sure to purchase one that fits your needs and has plenty of space to write in. Lastly, having

an umbrella on you at all times will come in handy more than you think, especially in

Florida. Being stuck on campus in the pouring rain with nothing to keep you dry is miserable,

so invest in a quality umbrella that won’t break after a few uses.

As college students, we often spread ourselves thin. From jotting down

notes in class to jogging on the treadmill, we somehow find the time to do it all. With such busy

schedules, it’s expected to have an overwhelming moment from time to time, but never fear, s te reomood.com has a playlist made specifically for how you are feeling. Simply type a key word or activity into the search bar, and watch in awe as

a pre-made playlist designed specifically for your mood pops up before your eyes. Similar to Pandora, StereoMood groups together

music and artists of a similar genre, which opens up the door to discovering endless new tunes. Developed in Milan in 2008, this

site has rapidly expanded ever since. The music website now offers an addictive new app available for iPhone, Android, iPad and Tablet. So next time you’re doing laundry, type

it in. Road-tripping? Type it in. You’ll be amazed by the never ending amounts of new music

right at your fingertips.

How to afford your pinterest boardGet the most out of Pinterest without breaking the bank

Bethany Pichard from Clutch

Pinterest boards are filled with dreams involving food, weddings, style, and travel. Unfortunately, many of us get so caught up in pinning everything our hearts desire,

that we end up unable to actually afford them. Here’s how to turn your Pinterest dreams into reality.

1.DIY as much as possible. If you can do-it-yourself, then do it yourself. Create your own high waisted shorts,

framed jewelry holder, or cute clutch.

2.Bargain shop. See a cool and intricate nail design you like? Publix sells nail polish for $1. Need a day at the spa or an exotic vacation? Check out Groupon and LivingSocial for un-

believable deals. Want to decorate for your wedding? Many websites are dedicated to selling low-priced products owned by brides who have already walked down the

aisle. Don’t be afraid to shop-’til-you-drop at a local thrift store or online.

3.Let your imagination soar. Don’t just recreate the last Pinner’s idea, use it as inspiration. If you are trying out a recipe, and you can think of a way to improve it at a cheaper cost, pass it on. If you come across an awesome outfit idea, figure out how to put it together with your own

unique touch. Don’t be afraid to take a picture and start a new pin. Pinterest is all about creativity, so express yourself and share the love.

Man Of Style

Zachary Aaron Goldstein

interview by: Carlos Kempff

navy blazerwhite and blue plaid button-downblack knitted tiebright green chinospair of suede wingtipsred pocket square

After two weeks of scheduling conflicts for our interview, I finally meet Zach over coffee one Friday afternoon at the Black Dog Café near Lake Ella. When you’re

the Photo Editor for the FSView, a full time student, freelance photographer, and on top of everything, the new blogging sensation of Florida State’s fashion

scene, the lack of time seems not only understandable, but expected.

Zachary Aaron Goldstein is a Jazz Piano Performance major at Florida State University. He is fluent in French, and (from what I’ve been told…) cooks like a god – although I still haven’t gotten the opportunity to prove it for myself. He’s wearing a perfectly fitted navy blazer over a white and blue plaid button-down shirt, a black knitted tie [bold move], paired with bright green chinos, a pair of

suede wingtips, and a red pocket square: 100 points for execution.

Goldstein started working as the Photo Editor of the FSView this semester. This put him, along with his partner, Riley, in charge of coordinating all photography material for

the newspaper and website. On the side, he recently started a campus/street-style blog

called Seminole Threadline. Scott Schuman once said that shooting The Sartorialist

lets him “fall in love a little bit every day.” According to Zach, this was his main reason

behind the start of the blog.

I wanted to showcase great outfits in a real, human way. Give all the people

that put time into their look a place to shine – the excitement that comes

along with the hunting is a bonus.

“”

Page 69: Clutch Magazine - Spring 2013

Zachary Aaron Goldstein

When we start talking about food, there is no going back. “I’ve always been welcomed in the kitchen,” he admits. Cooking with his mom, whom he describes

as “an excellent cook,” allowed him to start developing his culinary skills from early on. “The freedom of creation that comes along with learning (and

eventually mastering) of a technique is what makes cuisine so much fun for me.” Eating has the power to trigger powerful emotions and memories; eating his

mom’s lentil soup does exactly that. To him, food is a universal binding element, “the emotional glue that holds people together.”

It’s clear that Goldstein is a man of many passions. Whether he will pursue a career in photojournalism, open a farm-to-table restaurant, or even take Alan

Richman’s job as GQ’s food critic, is yet to be seen. We don’t know if he’ll end up living in Paris, New York, or Chicago.

Only one thing is for sure: none of these plans sound bad at all…

I can’t see

someone

who doesn’t

appreciate food

as much as

I do

Let’s talk about menswear. For the past several years, we’ve been seeing a switch in the attitudes of the straight male population from “I don’t care about

clothes,” to “let me see that velvet jacket, again?” For this stylish transition to a society of fashion-conscious men, we can thank menswear bloggers.

Here’s a roundup of our favorites:

By: Carlos Kempff

A new generation of well-dressed gentlemen

howtotalktogirlsatparties.tumblr.com A self-proclaimed “poorly curated inspiration board for the sartorially inclined,” How to Talk to Girls at Parties is anything but. Their blog editors, who also edit the

site Four Pins, have collected a great selection of street style shots, objects of desire, interesting articles, and

photography for your viewing pleasure.

How to Talk to Girls at Parties

fuckyeahmenswear.tumblr.com This tumblr sensation is one the funniest and most

interesting menswear blogs out there. Written with a witty, dark humor, FYMW examines the seriousness of the menswear business through vernacular poetry (or

rap?) about men’s fashion. “I’m not your grandpa. I’m not colorblind.

I’m not peacocking. I’m a Wooster.”

FYMW

realmenswear.tumblr.com Another funny take on menswear, Real Men Swear, makes photos talk…well, swear. Crude humor filled

thought bubbles are placed above the heads of uniquely fashionable men reflecting on the new interest

in men’s street style, commenting on an outfit, or admiring one’s naked ankles.

Quick and Easy Ways to Tone Your Manly SelfBy Jordan Dixon

Bicycles: Lay flat on your back with your knees bent and hands behind your head. Do a crunch by moving your right elbow to your left knee, and bringing your knee into your chest. Keep your right leg straight and slightly lifted off the ground. Repeat with your opposite knee and elbow. Do 20 reps.

Swimmers: Lay on your stomach with your arms and legs straight. Lift your right arm and left leg, and hold for 10 seconds. Switch (raise your opposite arm and leg). Alternate this motion for 20 reps.

“V” Sit: Sit on the ground in an upright position. With your legs straight, gently raise them in front of you while holding your arms parallel to your thighs to form a “V” shape. Tighten your abdominal muscles, and hold position for 30 seconds.

Plank: While lying flat on your stom-ach, bring your chest slightly off the ground, supporting your weight on your forearms. Slowly lift the rest of your body off the ground. Make sure to place your weight on only your forearms and toes. Hold position for 30 seconds.

Now that a brand new year is upon us, it’s a great time to get your body ready for spring. So gents, here are a few basic moves to add to your workout routine that will help you achieve a more fit, toned body. For the best results, repeat these four moves a total of three times each.

The Rubell Family Collection is one of the largest privately owned contemporary art collections in the world. Filled with pieces by Jean- Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Takashi Murakami, Andy Warhol, and more, the museum holds several different exhibitions throughout the year.

If you thought Spain kept all of surrealist master Salvador Dalí’s work for themselves, you are mistaken. St. Petersburg’s Dalí Museum houses works from Dalí’s entire career, created through various artistic mediums.

get your trim on

Going away to college brings with it many new obstacles, like cooking without setting the house on

fire, or deciding if it’s a good idea to go clubbing on a Thursday night. However, there are many challenges

of living in a new city that don’t reveal themselves until the school year is underway, like finding a good hairdresser. Here in Tallahassee, there are a number

of places to get a fabulous wash, cut, and color.

1.Aveda: $12 wash, cut & blow dry http://avedaflorida.com/services/

Aveda Salon is by far the cheapest place to get a quality hairstyle, but keep in mind that all services are

performed by students of the Institute, so they may take a bit longer than an ordinary salon. We suggest booking a morning appointment to avoid the crowd.

2.Supercuts: $19 wash & cut, $25 wash, cut & blow

dry http://www.supercuts.com/

Supercuts is a great place to go for a quick trim - you will be in and out in around 25 minutes. Join their

email list for $1 coupons every 6 weeks.

3.Synergy: $25-$40 wash, cut & style http://www.synergysalontallahassee.com/

Welcome.html

Synergy offers services with either a Level 1, 2, or 3 stylist, with a Level 3 being the most affordable.

Located on quaint Thomasville Road.

4.Hair on Earth: $45 wash, cut & blow dry http://www.haironearth.info/default.html

Hair on Earth is a boutique salon that offers the latest in hair trends, like Ombre, Balayage effect,

and a new Bumble and Bumble hair treatment, which produces similar effects to Keratin, but with less

damage. Visit their website for a $10 coupon on your first haircut.

5.Haute Headz: $50-$95 cut

http://www.hauteheadzsalon.com/home.html

The priciest of the bunch, Haute Headz offers services with stylists, senior stylists, advanced

stylists, or master stylists, similar to Synergy. Since 1990, Haute Headz has been dedicated to providing

the best experience possible, so you are sure to enjoy your appointment from beginning to end.

shop localthat’s mine! monogramming & GIFTS

Hours of

Operation:

Monday-Friday 10am-5pm and Saturday

10am-4pm.

What is the story behind how your business got started? That’s Mine grew from a love of all things personalized. I began monogramming at home for friends and family just for fun. I soon outgrew my embroidery room at home and was

monogramming day and night. It was with a great leap of faith two and a half years ago, that I opened That’s Mine. I think that you know you have found your

calling when your passion turns into a career.

What is your favorite thing about owning the store? Our customers!! We have the best customers at That’s Mine and I enjoy helping

them find the perfect gift...or just a little something that’s theirs.

How did you come up with the name? Knowing that our focus would be personalization, I began brainstorming what a monogram

means and why people monogram their belongings. It then came to me suddenly...I monogram my items to show ownership (to make it mine) thus That’s Mine was born.

What is your favorite piece in the store right now? The monogrammed clutches! We have several different styles but my favorite

at the moment is the straw clutch with a fun “pop of color” trim.

Where do you get your inspiration from when deciding which items to offer to your customers? When selecting merchandise for the store, I first and foremost look for items screaming for a monogram in fun patterns and colors. We spend many hours researching items that we

ourselves would love to have or find useful.

First Friday

A New Kind of Happy Hour By: Cara Wolkowitz

Tired of trying to unwind every Friday afternoon at an overcrowded bar? Thankfully, there is another

exciting way to spend your Happy Hour while exploring a new side of Tallahassee at the same

time. First Friday at Railroad Square Art Park takes place the first Friday of every month, and boasts food

trucks, live music, thrift stores, handmade jewelry, and art galleries galore.

In addition to accommodating Tallahassee’s most popular food trucks, First Friday also

offers vegan and gluten-free options at affordable prices. The art galleries consist of work from professionals, teachers, and students alike, holding competitions for art students to have their work displayed. For

those of you who don’t want to give up your Blue Moons at Happy Hour, there are bars

where anyone of age can enjoy a few drinks and the vibe.

There are few places in Tallahassee as inspiring as Railroad Square Art Park. First

Friday has something for students of all kinds, art major or not. Don’t be surprised if you leave with unique accessories for your

home, or decked out in one-of-a-kind jewelry. Some designers work with wire and beads, while others weld semiprecious stones into metals. First Friday is also a chance to let your fashionable side show. Finally, you’ll have a chance to wear that outfit that’s too trendy for Potbelly’s. So, don’t miss out on an opportunity to experience a new

side of Tallahassee, it only comes around once a month!
