HIGH PERFORMANCE SCALE-OUT STORAGE FOR HPC & BIG DATAData Sheet

ClusterStor™ 6000 Engineered Solution for Lustre®

ClusterStor 6000 is designed to provide high performance scale-out storage for HPC and Big Data delivering optimized time to productivity: maximizing efficiency, application availability and results.

Truly scaling file system performance efficiently means aggressively reducing the space, power and time required to achieve overall program results. With embedded processing and storage, the ClusterStor 6000 Scalable Storage Unit, or SSU, is the new unit for measuring performance density. The SSU is only five rack units high and delivers up to six gigabytes/sec of sustained read and write file system performance.

ClusterStor 6000 gives you choice of scale in both performance and capacity. With ClusterStor 6000, users are not confined to work with separate storage system units of fully loaded racks just to get started; on the contrary, ClusterStor 6000 enables users to work with a configuration having one SSU, or as many SSUs as you need.

This remarkable degree of modular and adaptive configuration addresses a primary need for HPC and Big Data user requirements. ClusterStor 6000 is designed to enable efficient linear scale-out performance from initial pre-production test, initial production, to achieving record breaking computing and I/O scale.

ClusterStor 6000 is designed for HPC and Big Data users who want to build efficient petascale solutions for high performance computing applications in areas such as scientific research, life sciences, digital media, energy exploration, data analytics, digital manufacturing as well as weather and climate forecasting.

Optimized Time to Productivity

ClusterStor 6000 gets you productive fast with robust professional service offerings available as part of solution delivery including quality controlled installation, comprehensive early-stage support, personalized training, as well as data migration, configuration and architecture services. Instead of spending weeks gathering separate hardware and software, resolving interoperability issues and testing to get your Lustre environment into production, you can be productive with ClusterStor in hours. ClusterStor includes pre-installation of all internal software components, configuration of the integrated system and intensive system reliability tests before it ships from the factory. Rather than fight complexity, let the highly efficient, factory tested and seamlessly integrated ClusterStor 6000 solution do the work for you.

ClusterStor 6000Engineered Solution for Lustre

Reclaim datacenter resources for more compute or increased performance and storage capacity. ClusterStor’s scale-out architecture collapses and consolidates Lustre file system hardware and software, into modular, easy to use building blocks. The outcome is a saving in storage hardware resulting in lower latencies, higher reliability and reduced power and cooling costs.

ClusterStor Manager is a comprehensive system management application that is part of ClusterStor’s distributed management framework and is responsible for pulling everything together as a single managed system, including advanced Performance Monitoring capabilities. ClusterStor Manager consolidates management of the storage infrastructure, RAID data protection layer, scale-out operating system and the Lustre file system into a single, easy-to-use administrator interface. Initial installation, creation of file systems, ongoing monitoring and management, expansion and software upgrades are brought to a single pane of glass. This brings unprecedented system visibility to the Lustre system administrator.

The Art of High Performance Scale-Out Data Storage

ClusterStor’s architecture removes complexity and is naturally more efficient by design. The Scalable Storage Unit integrates operating system, data protection, the Lustre® file system and management into a high availability building block that consolidates storage, network and server processing.

The result is an easy to deploy, easy to use and easy to manage solution. There is no need to guess at how to scale ClusterStor 6000; each Scalable Storage Unit is a balanced performance building block delivering a predictable level of performance and storage capacity. Overall system performance is directly proportional to the number of Scalable Storage Units due to ClusterStor’s efficient internal optimization that yields industry leading linear performance scalability.

ClusterStor 6000 is designed to support installations with linear performance scalability in less space - from up to 6 gigabytes per second to installations providing over 1 terabyte per second, as well as linear data storage capacity from terabytes up to tens of petabytes1.

Keeping You Productive - Reliability, Availability and Serviceability

ClusterStor 6000 maximizes your operation time and application availability. Keeping your storage and file system running through production operations, upgrades and maintenance, in spite of hardware failures, means that you can stay productive. A key aspect to keeping you up and running is ClusterStor’s built-in high availability design and comprehensive set of distributed management services.

ClusterStor 6000 has been designed from the ground up as a highly available enterprise class storage solution with resiliency engineered into all primary subsystems. Meta-data and management server operations are resident on a high availability Cluster management Unit. Each Scalable Storage Unit includes active/active embedded server modules, redundant and independent system interconnects.

1 Performance will vary with configuration, customer environment and workload.

ClusterStor Manager removes the management burden of administering tens of petabytes and their traditional complement of deployed Lustre Object Storage Servers. Consolidated and detailed health monitoring and error reporting enables administrators to quickly view and diagnose file system and hardware assets.

Software and firmware upgrades across an entire ClusterStor 6000 system are executed through ClusterStor Manager, removing the administrative burden and risks that come with large complex Lustre implementations. Seagate removes all of the pre-upgrade work and testing effort normally associated with upgrades and gives you an ability to roll-back upgrades, if necessary.
