RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS IMPLEMENTED The university, through its Research, Extension and Training Program (RET) continued to make headways primarily in terms of its mandate to implement innovative R & D programs relevant to national development. This was made possible as thedifferentofficesandspecializedR&D centers under the RET umbrella pursued their respective program thrusts, taking cognizance of the national and regional commodity responsibilities of the university. Thirty-five(35)R&Dprograms/projects/studies were completed during the year. Most of these were externally funded by agencies such as the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development Council (PCAARRD), Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice), Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Agricultural Research (DA-BAR) and several private chemical companies. Table 8 shows the breakdown of the research studiesbyofficeandsourceoffunding.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS AND PROJECTS• TheCLSUScienceandTechnology

Centrum

The S & T Centrum, one of the latest projects managed by the RET, was constructed to serve as show window of the different technologies generated by CLSU over the years. Its construction was made possible through the initiative of the management of the CLSU Foundation, Inc. with funding support from the Bureau of Agricultural Research – Department of Agriculture. Soon after the completion of the building, the CLSUFI management formally turned over the facility to the University.

The University President delegated the management of theCentrumtotheOfficeoftheVP for RET who in turn assigned a project leader. Ground works and purchase of the needed equipment/IEC materials were done during the period in review. Before the year 2013 ended, the S & T Centrum’s physical set up including the equipment were almost completed.

services continued to be one of the banner services rendered by PCC in villages through the trained village-based Al technicians (VBAITs) as well as technicians of LGUs, DA-Regional Field Units (DA-RFUs), PCC Regional Centers and other interested agencies. In 2013, a total of 13,979 AI services in buffaloes and 4,141 in cattle was accomplished. A total of 6,662 buffalo calves was produced from 2012 inseminations, up by 86.11 percentascomparedto2011figures.

Complementing the AI services, especially in areas where AI is not feasible, natural mating was introduced via the Bull Loan Program. In 2013, an additional of 23 breeding bulls were loanedouttoqualifiedapplicantsinseveral towns in Nueva Ecija and nearby provinces.
