• What is Experiential Learning?
Experiential learning is the process of learning through experience, and is more specifically defined as "learning through reflection on doing". Experiential learning is distinct from rote or didactic learning, in which the learner plays a comparatively passive role. It is related to but not
synonymous with other forms of active learning such as action learning, adventure learning, free choice learning, cooperative learning,
and service learning. (Kolb)

• Experiential Learning Theory?
Experiential learning theory differs from cognitive and behavioral theories in that cognitive theories emphasize the role of mental processes while behavioral theories ignore the possible role of
subjective experience in the learning process. The experiential theory takes a more holistic approach and emphasizes how experiences,
including cognitions, environmental factors, and emotions, influence the learning process.

• George T. Baker Aviation • Successes
• Drop out prevention • For many, the only reason to stay in high school
• Academic achievement • Had to maintain academics at home school AND Baker • Connected classroom instruction to real world problems • Students finally realized why they had to learn mathematics!
• Behavior • Behavior at home/ Baker counted towards other • Suspended from one, suspended from both
• College/ Career • Students could enter college/ career with goal already in mind • Graduated with either credits earned or job

• Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Students will be a part of a new form of business management where they will learn the technology and business practices that all successful businesses, organizations, and governments require – the efficient and effective management of resources. By learning the latest technology and software solutions, students will be prepared for a highly successful career in business, as an entrepreneur or continue working towards an advanced degree. According to the U.S. Department of Labor the 2012 median pay for Human Resources Managers was $99,720 per year ($47.94 per hour) and the expect job growth through 2022 is 13%.

• Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) “Geospatial Science” is one of the fastest and highest demand technical fields. Students will learn the science of collecting and making data usable to the average person by revealing trends, patterns, and phenomena through computer based analyses and high-tech digital mapping techniques. By using the latest technology, students will learn how to use high-tech “smart” technology and resources to capture, manage, analyze and display all forms of geographically referenced information that are widely needed in government, transportation, military, human services, and global businesses – all to prepare students for a successful place in the workforce or continue working towards an advanced degree. According to the U.S. Department of Labor the 2012 median pay for Computer and Information Research Scientists is $102,190 per year ($49.13 per hour) and the expect job growth through 2022 is 15%.

• Advanced Technology and Software Solutions (iCode) Everyone communicates and gathers knowledge on smartphones, tablets, computers, or in the cloud – there are new technologies and advanced software applications being built for use by individuals, companies, organizations and governments. Students will learn how to use and develop the latest technology and software (Microsoft, Java, Android, etc.) platforms and be prepared for a successful career in business, as an entrepreneur or continue working towards an advanced degree. According to the U.S. Department of Labor the 2012 median pay for Computer and Information Systems Managers was $120,950 per year ($58.15 per hour) and the expect job growth through 2022 is 15%.

• Students will use math concepts of scaling and proportions to draft a furnished house. These scaling concepts are also used in GIS mapping. The students will then design the house in CAD software and export it to makerbot software that has 3D printing which uses scaling for constructing solids.
• English Language Arts • Student will use rhetorical appeals as effective ways of communicating, persuading, and
creating advertising using words and images. The students integrate ERP to market advertisements about stories from their reading.
• Biology • Students will track diseases through GIS mapping. Students will research science news
articles on academy topics such as medical uses of 3D printers.
• World History • Historical propaganda using tools learned in ERP.
