CLUB CORNER Back Roads - At our October meeting we did re-enrollments and welcomed a new family to our club. We discussed and made changes to our by-laws. We also discussed different ideas to do with our fundraisers. Barn Yard Kids - In October we went over enrollment information, the Deadlines Matter form, and the game plan for the coming year. We discussed the beef project and who will be participating, when they need their steers by, etc. We will have a different meeting format this year due to limited availability of the hall we use, so we will be meeting every other month throughout the winter. Broomfield Valley - For our meeting in October we made a wreath for a demo fundraiser. We got a new member and nominated her as the Vice president. We figured out where to collect bows for the wreaths. We also voted Brock for Treasurer. Finally, we discussed where we were going to have future meetings. Country Kids Livestock - We welcomed 3 new members at our October meeting. We decided our two community service projects would be decorating at the Coleman Senior Center again, as well as adopt a family. We elected new officers; President is Lucie Ullom, Vice President is William Methner, Secretary is Kaylynn Myers, and Treasurer is Elley Johnson. We also discussed upcoming dates for anyone with a steer, such as upcoming shows and steer weigh-in. Dairy Dreamers In October we elected new officers and started plans for our upcoming wreath fundraiser. Three members went to the U.P. to harvest the greens to make the wreaths. Caitie Theisen was a member of the 4-H team that represented Michigan in Dairy Judging at World Dairy Expo this year. What an honor to be chosen for this team! Katie Wilson was 1 of 6 delegates from Michigan to represent our state at the National 4-H Dairy Conference. What an awesome, fun-filled, learning opportunity! We have had a great year and our involvement in 4-H is reaching well beyond the county fair. Congratulations to all of you! Farm Hands - Our October meeting was our Halloween Fest. We had a hayride, given by the Amish and their horses. Followed by a potluck and a meeting. During our meeting we voted for officers and signed by-laws for the new year. Once we had all of our meeting business done we had an obstacle course set up where we divided the group into two teams. It was a lot of fun seeing the kids work as a team to complete the course. At the end everyone got door prizes and a bag of candy. We look forward to this coming year with a good group of officers. Their leadership will help with our group. Pony Creek – At our October meeting we had our annual Indoor Haunted Barn, hayride and potluck meal, along with member sign-ups. We also handed out the club brochure for the year with meeting dates, activities and contact information. In November we will be collecting items for the Isabella County Foster Closet. Western Spurs - We welcomed 6 new members, handed out large animal auction photos, and discussed upcoming 4-H events. We also discussed our next meeting at Rosebush Manor where we will decorate the residents’ doors for the holidays.

We are accepting nominations for Teen Representatives on 4-H Council

What is the Isabella County 4-H Council? The 4-H Council is the main decision-making body for

the county 4-H program. It is responsible for working with the paid staff to support county 4-H

program planning, administration and policy making. The Council is charged with keeping track of

“the big picture” for our county 4-H program. It assists with volunteer recruitment, 4-H awareness

building, and it oversees things such as member and volunteer recognition and the county award

program. Monthly meetings (the 4th Tuesday of the month) are held at the Isabella County Building,

room 320, and are open to all 4-H leaders and interested people.

4-H leaders and teens who are interested in serving on 4-H Council should contact Kristi at the

Extension Office.

Small Animal News 2018 Meritorious Service winner was Graham's Organics. Graham's have

helped with the removal of our used sawdust piles to keep things tidy on the north end of the small animal barn, and we appreciate their partnership.

If you sold a rabbit/poultry/goat at fair time and did not attend, you can pick up your check at the Extension Office. Please cash your checks as soon as possible because they are only good for 90 days.

If you are not on a waiting list with a breeder for your 2019 Goat wethers or does, you should be getting on one soon. You are able to sell a wether (castrated male) or a doe. You can contact Theresa Frederick to help with finding a breeder at (989) 621-6866.

We continue to appreciate and encourage anyone who has ideas for the fair board's building project. It has been great to see the various projects and events done on its behalf thus far, but we still have a large hill to climb. The final product will be a true benefit to the 4-H community as a whole, but specifically for all small animal project areas in the way of space and enhanced facilities. Brainstorm with your family, clubs, community members, then contact Tammy Brecht (989-828-6394) with suggestions and questions. We need a combined effort to assist in making the building a reality.

The next Small Animal Association meeting will be Thursday, November 15, at 7:00 p.m. at the Isabella County Building, Room 320. Superintendents will be finalizing 2019 fair book changes. (We will not meet in December)
