Educational Platform in Lodz

Beneficient: City of Lodz

An excellent example of the use of cloud solutions in education is the

Educational Platform of Lodz, which has more than 150,000 users. By

leveraging cloud technologies on municipal servers, the city of Lodz has

deployed this broad-scale educational platform, on which users dynamically

manage their educational content, without the need to buy expensive software

or costly hardware.

Users: Teachers and pupils

Total Value of the Project: 40 mln PLN

Platform: 1 170 000 PLN

Co-financing from the regional programme of the Lodzkie region (EU cohesion

fund)

Low-cost, tailored e-learning

Give schools and universities the chance to create their own low-cost e-

learning systems.

Dynamic lessons

Such solutions allow teachers and lecturers to make lessons more

attractive, using the huge repositories of multimedia resources available in the

cloud

Personalised approach

Pupils can access educational resources – including lessons, courses,

revision aids, and so on – without the pressures of time or barriers of

geography

Flexibility

Foremost of the advantages for schools or universities are the much lower

costs of infrastructure maintenance when using cloud resources. Costs can

thus be significantly reduced during holidays as compared to during the school

year or end-of-term examinations

Configurator:

The main functionality will be a configurator, which - depending on the profile of

the company / industry – is to present a list of SaaS solutions tailored to its needs

(grouped by function - storage, finance, office applications, graphics applications,

etc., as well as by price, user ratings, certification of EuroCloud, etc.).

The configurator will also suggest IaaS platforms with the appropriate resources

necessary to provide the selected applications in the cloud.

Consequently, SaaS providers must first complete an extensive questionnaire on

their needs.

Planned is also a list of the best specific solutions according to different business

branches.

In the end of the selection process, the SaaS customer receives the valuation of

monthly fees.

Are such IT infrastructure investments affordable for

other institutions /Public administration/ Health services/ etc. ? Should

the public administration trust and buy cloud services instead?

Cloud on the move in Poland

Cooperative banks, a very specific sector in Poland, is starting to migrate to

the cloud. For example, Bank Spółdzielczy w Tczewie is one of the first pioneers. „This

model is financially the most attractive for us "- declares Eugenia Pokorska-Sawczuk,

CEO of Bank Spółdzielczy w Tczewie.

Polish Cloud virtualization providers for SMEs in Poland and in Central Europe

Currently, EU funds finance IT infrastructure in Poland – CAPEX instead

of OPEX.

European Common rules or at least Guidelines for Cloud adoption?

Common EU procurement procedures when using Cloud solutions?

Strong need of awareness/education campaign/ trainings /competence

center for SME to adopt Cloud solutions

Solid EU legislative framework on data protection/ IT security to convince

the administration and economic actors that the cloud is safe and secure;
