Skeletal System Purpose: To give our body shape. Main parts:Bones: The skeletal system is able to keep the bones balanced and able to

move and bend.Cartilage: Cushions your bones so they don’t rub or hit each other.Joints: Occur when two bones meet. Without them, there would be no

movement.Ligaments: Surround and bind joints together. They control or restrict

movement and link bones together. Relations to other Systems:Circulatory: The skeletal system, including the rib cage, protects vital organs

and the blood that the circulatory system is controlling.Respiratory: The bones protect the lungs that are a big part of the respiratory

system. Pathogen:Osteoporosis: Highly decreases the amount of bone, reducing the strength of

the bones.

Muscular SystemPurpose: Assist in movement of mobility of the body.Main parts:Cardiac muscle: Helps heart pump blood throughout the body.Tendons: Connective tissues attach skeletal muscles to bone,

skin and other muscles.Smooth muscles: Slow and contract by smooth muscle lining

tubes to digest.Relations to other Systems:Skeletal: Bones give the muscle support and help them move.Digestive: Food is pushed down by smooth muscle lining tubes

to digestion.Pathogen:Stroke: The brain shuts down all of the muscles.

Circulatory systemPurpose: Transporting materials throughout the entire body.Main parts:Heart: Pumps blood throughout body.Atrium: Collects blood from the rest of the body.Ventricle: Pumping blood out of the heart and into the rest of the

body.Arteries: Largest and strongest blood vessels.Blood: Carries oxygen to -muscles.Red blood cells; Can live 80-120 years.Relations to other Systems: Respiratory: The oxygen flows inside the blood and to the heart.Muscular: As blood pumps through your body to move your

muscles.Pathogen:Asthma: Causes lungs to contract when there is not enough

oxygen to support the blood.

Respiratory System Purpose: To transport air into the lungs and to facilitate the

diffusion of oxygen into the blood stream. Upper respiratory tract:NosePharynxLarynx Lower respiratory tract:Bronchial treeTracheaLungs Relations to other Systems:Muscular: Providing oxygen so muscles can move.Nervous: The brain needs oxygen to work. Pathogen:Bronchitis: An inflammation of the lining of the bronchial tubes, the

airways that connect the trachea to the lungs.

Digestive System Purpose: To break food down into smaller parts. Main parts:Stomach: Breaks down food to release nutrients, then passes to intestines.Small intestine: Soaks up nutrients, vitamins, minerals, sugars, carbs etc,.Large intestine: Further soaks nutrients and filters waste to exit the body.Gall bladder: Stores bile to break down food and absorbs vitamins D,E,K and ALiver: Processes and collects nutrients from blood, stores vitamins, iron, carbs

and fats. Controls sugar levels in the blood.Saliva: Makes food softer, easier to break down, has lots of enzymes to start

digestion.Pancreas: Makes digestive juices with 15 chemicals to break down food and

regulates sugar levels.Mouth: Breaks down food by crushing it with teeth, making it easier to swallow

and digest.Esophagus: Transports chewed up food to stomach using the lining of muscles. Relations to other Systems:Respiratory: In charge of getting oxygen to muscles. It keeps you alive from the

fuel that the digestive system sends.Circulatory:  Gets the absorbed nutrients distributed through your body. Pathogen:Staphylococcal: Food poisoning.

Nervous SystemPurpose: Helps all the parts of the body to communicate with each

other.Main Parts:Nerves: They are all around your body, like messengers to the brain.Brain: The control center of your body.Spinal cord: Path that the nerves are sent through to the brain.Relations to other systems: Digestive: You are eating and breaking down food to go your stomach,

the brain makes sure this runs smoothly and you don’t choke.Musculoskeletal: The brain controls the movement of the bones and

muscles.Pathogen: Multiple Sclerosis: Hardens plaque of degeneration of the insulating

layer of nerve fibers in the nervous system. Creates an unbalanced system.
