AFTER THE FIRE PERFORM

LITTER CONTROL

BALLSTON SPA - After The Fire has adopted the Assem-blyman Jim Tedisco Fitness Trail in Ballston Spa for litter control since 2006. Members make regular trips as soon as the snow has gone for the season, until the snow files again. The Village has placed a trash recepticle at each end of the trail, and users of the trail have been increasingly diligent about using them. Everyone is urged to carry their trash to the recepticles (cigarette butts included), as a courtesy to others, to obey the law, and to maintain the aesthetics of the trail. After The Fire helps residents of Saratoga County who have suffered a loss due to fire. They are a non-profit orga-nization that exists entirely on donations and is com-prised totally of volunteers, which are always needed. After The Fire provides family members with personal care items, gift cards, Red Cross referral, informational material, emotional support - whatever is needed to help the family through a terrible situation. 1. Support Yourself: Studies have shown that when you buy from an independent, locally owned business, more of your money is used to make purchases from other local businesses, service providers and farms, thus strengthening the economic base of your community.

2. Keep Our Towns Unique: Where we shop, where we eat and where we have fun is what makes our community our home. One-of-a-kind businesses are an integral part of the character of our community. They’re a major reason why we’re here and why tourists visit our area.

3. Enhance Community Well-Being: Locally owned businesses build strong neighborhoods by sustaining communities, linking neighbors and contributing to local causes. Local ownership means that important decisions are made by people who live here and are accountable for their decisions.

4. Encourage Local Character and Prosperity: Business owners are your neighbors, families and friends. Most of them live here, shop here and send their children to school here. This makes them more invested in your community.

5. Keep Dollars in the Local Economy: Put your tax dollars to good use and see them in action. Of every $100 spent in locally owned independent stores, $68 remain in your community through taxes, payroll and other expenditures. An increase in local sales tax, means more funding for education, town projects and services, infrastructure and parks and recreation.

6. Sustain the Environment: Utilizing local resources reduces environmental impact by saving time and gas and reducing air and water pollution.

7. Support Your Community Organizations: Non-profi ts receive on average three times greater support from smaller, locally owned businesses than from larger organizations. Non-profi ts are a vital part of your community, improving the quality of life for everyone.

8. Receive Better Customer Service: Locals hire locals, who have a better understanding of the products they are selling and take the time to get to know their customers and their needs.

9. Promote Better Jobs and Wages: Small local businesses are the largest employer nationally and account for the majority of jobs. On average, they provide better wages and benefi ts.

10. Get What You Need: A multitude of small businesses select their own products instead of on a national sales plan, which provides a broad range of product choices that fi ts their local customer’s needs.

Yes Virginia, there really is a DeeDee.I’m sure a lot of you remember our famous Gerbil Races running every Sunday night for years. And I’m sure many of you caught at least one of the infamous Tiny Tim per-formances LIVE at DeeDee’s. Well, those days may be gone but we’re still having fun. We have an eclectic clientele here– which, I believe, means you’ll fit right in. Do you know that Aimee, Patrick and Yvonne are still here? Between the four of us we have over 112 years of experience. (I like that one.) My sister, SUSIE, is coming to visit from Florida. I want her to think I’m doing really well. So let’s have a meet and greet on Monday, August 25th. Unlike other ads – DON’T mention this ad. I will “ring the bell” at 5:30 sharp. I’m sure you know what that means. Sounds like a PARTY! (I hope she’s not here to borrow money.)P.S. Just because DeeDee’s has been around for as long as you can remember – doesn’t mean I’m older than you. Love, DeeDee

Once you have an idea of what styles you prefer, the next step is to design a plan for the kitchen with all the elements in their proper places. John and Jamie Bergami, owners of the family-run, 40 year-old Homecrest Kitchens in Glenville, say an experienced kitchen designer can help plan an e cient, workable design that can t almost any pocketbook. “Everybody has a budget. Sometimes they bring a picture from a magazine, and they say, ‘ is is what I would like,’ but those pic-tures from the magazine can be very high end. And they’re surprised when they get the price of something like that,” Jamie Bergami said. However, he added, there are almost always more reasonable ver-sions of almost any product. e important thing is to get the design right. “And that’s where we can point them in the right direction,” he said. For example, many people now are looking for granite countertops, which can be very expensive. So to save money, they might be planning to keep their old cabinets and cover them with granite. is can be a serious mistake. “We’d rather see people spend more on the cabinets and less on the countertop, if it’s not in the budget, because you can always change the top later,” he said. “Once the countertop is on, it’s not easy to change the cabinets,” John Bergami said. “ ere’s a lot of nice laminate colors they’ve made in the last two years that have the look of granite, and they’re more a ordable,” he said.

RECENTLY RETIRED AND LOOKING FOR MEANINGFUL

VOLUNTEER WORK?SARATOGA REGION - I am I can is a 501(c)3 organization that was created to mentor girls in grades 9 - 12. Programs provide needed encouragement, guidance and advocacy to students as they navigate their high school years and move toward post-graduation goals. We are seeking adult female mentors to work with students on a weekly basis. As a mentor you would spend time with and get to know your student, while developing a relationship that provides support and guidance. If you are a recently retired woman looking for some meaningful volunteer work, this may be for you. This program focuses not as much on job skill mentor-ing, but more on providing a positive role model in the stu-dent’s life. You will help the student to develop core values and “encourage young women to discover their dreams, to believe in endless possibilities while empowering them to make it happen”. The organization is currently looking for mentors in the Clifton Park to Glens Falls areas. Immedi-ate needs are to support girls in Hudson Falls, South Glens Fall, Glens Falls and Ballston Spa school districts. If you have time on a weekly or bi-weekly basis and would like to have a positive impact on a girl in your community, please con-tact Founder, Avon Scherff at 518-688-3010 ext 102, or email Avon@scherffi nsurance.com.

PRAYER TO THE BLESSED VIRGIN (Never known to fail). Oh, most beautiful flower of Mt. Carmel, fruitful vine splendor of Heaven, Blessed Mother of the Son of God, Immaculate Virgin, assist me in my necessity. Oh, Star of the Sea, help me and show me, herein you are my mother. Oh, Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth, I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart to answer me in this necessity. There are none that can withstand your power. Oh, show me herein you are my mother. Oh, Mary con-ceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee (3x). Holy Mother, I place this cause in your hands (3x). Sweet mother, I place this cause in your hands (3x). Holy Spirit, you who solve all problems, light all roads so that I can attain my goal, you who gave me the divine gift to forgive and forget all evil against me and that in all instances in my life you are with me, I want in this short prayer to thank you for all things as you confirm once again that I never want to be separated from you in eternal glory. Thank you for your mercy towards me and mine. The person must say this prayer 3 consecutive days, after 3 days the request will be granted. This prayer must be published after the favor is granted.
