Welcome to this year’s Conference!
Dear Delegates,
Last year we talked about the future and ensuring our members
get the tools they need to succeed.
“Paving the Road” isn’t just a great title for a Conference. It is exactly
what your Board of Directors set out to do in reconfiguring our
organizational structure and hiring CEO, Sheila McFadyen in January.
With someone at the wheel of daily operations, maintaining roads becomes much
easier but, more importantly, also provides the ability to build new ones. Sheila has
already made great progress on many fronts of our business and you can expect to
see the benefits as we move forward.
Like any major undertaking, this is not a one person job. It also involves the hard work
of the dedicated office staff and the volunteers, like our Conference Committee
members, to help with the details and heavy lifting. The larger our scope becomes,
the more contribution we’ll need going forward.
We invite you to enjoy the road ahead and not just as a passenger. This is your As-
sociation and we need your skills and knowledge to make it the best it can be. Like
the Ad says, “Driver’s Wanted”.
Thank you for joining us today. Please enjoy yourself and make the most of it!
Sincerely,
Gavin Schafer CAPPA Board Chair
CEO Welcome
I am delighted to be here at my first CAPPA Conference
and undoubtedly you are excited for the event as well.
The Conference is designed uniquely for Production
Accountants and the Committee has worked ardently to
provide a great day of learning, networking and fun. Please
take the opportunity to thank the Committee team during Conference; they are
sporting matching logo shirts.
And speaking of logo, as you have entered Conference and had a sneak peek in
your delegate bags you will have seen our new logo and we will be sharing the
mechanics behind the new brand in our opening address. Conference delegates
are the first to see the new branding!
Conference is a great opportunity to connect with colleagues, presenters and
exhibitors to gain new skills, learn about industry trends, and make valuable
networking contacts. Ask questions and share ideas; your knowledge and
leadership shapes the future of our industry. And after a great day of learning,
join the excitement at our closing reception.
So welcome, enjoy and please say hello.
Sincerely,
Sheila McFadyen Chief Executive Officer

Breakout Speakers
tina Varughese – 50 Shades of Beige: Communicate with the Cross Cultural Advantage
Successful organizations understand that being able to communicate cross-culturally in
the workplace leads to enhanced productivity, performance and employee engagement.
Managing diversity drives profitability, leads to innovation and promotes an inspiring
workplace culture.
key takeaways of this session will be:
1) Cultural differences in communication; indirect vs. direct speaking styles;
2) individualistic and collective cultures; How values change the way we communicate;
3) effective day-to-day communication when english is a second language; and
4) Non-verbal communication; Why the “unspoken” word is the most important of all.
tina Varughese – Ctrl-Alt-Delete give the Re (Boot) to Work Life Balance
Only 23% of working Canadians are highly satisfied with life. in fact, one-third of Canadians
feel they have more work to do that time permits. Work-life balance is not a gender issue.
Men have the same issues balancing career and family as women do and also struggle with
obtaining work-life balance. With technological advances coupled with more women in the
workforce due to economic pressures, work-life balance can seem evasive and unobtainable
for all. in this relevant, practical yet humorous session, participants will learn essential tools,
tips and strategies to minimize stress, maximize efficiency, improve productivity and boost
positivity both at work and at home.
key takeaways of this session will be:
1) Why more time does not mean more balance,
2) Five key stress busters that are essential for a healthier, happier and more
balanced life,
3) tips and tools for difficult conversations at work and at home,
4) the high cost of always saying “yes”, and
5) retrain your brain for positivity.

cultural communication, work-life balance and inclusive leadership.

Al McCue – “So your Metering Difference Looks OK...”Most pas are aware that they should be doing a metering difference across their flow
networks to ensure volumetric balances are within +/- 5%. there is a second metering
difference balance that can be done at the component level that will tell a pa about the
quality of their hydrocarbon gas and liquid analysis data in the network.
in this session we will:
1) review why metering differences occur,
2) review aer’s expectations around metering differences,
3) introduce metering difference calculations at the component level, why it’s important
and what it tells you,

schematic diagrams in real time from your FDC or PA systems.
OGmatic schematics include volumes, balances and master file data of your choosing. Changes made
to your PA or FDC systems are immediately reflected in the schematic, practically eliminating schematic
maintenance.
OGmatic schematics can be used to highlight recent changes to your PA or FDC systems or to examine
a single product flow such as gas.
OGmatic schematics dramatically simplify your review, training, trouble shooting, audit and change
validation processes.
OGmatic schematics produced from FDC data are also Directive 17 compliant.

mapping new technology to how a production accountant works. Our unique development approach
ensures that all the business functionality, including all the “one of exceptions,” that P2 has identified
over the last 20 years is included in Qbyte Metrix.
Metrix will enable productivity and efficiencies for both experienced as well as brand new production
accountants through its streamlined considerate user interface, improvements in workflow and
focus on accuracy and completeness (e.g. our new EPAP Measurement Edit module). All of this is
combined with a new modern reporting system providing interoperability with desktop applications
(e.g. excel, pdf, email).
