CLI Project Logistics scope of works was to handle the heavy and large project shipment – volume car-go (1.488 cbm) from the production plant of John Thompson, Africa’s largest manufacturer and solution provider of steam and hot water industrial boilers – to free on board the vessel, for loading and shipping to the customer PT. EuroAsiatic Jaya in Jakarta. The part charter was fixed by the customer direct. The logistics entailed the use of specialised truck/trailers for the safe transport to the port.

The cartage required specialised permission within strict parameters from the City of Cape Town as well as the Cape Town Port Authorities for out-of-gauge cargoes. This included the route planning, permits and escorts as well as heavy cranes and riggers.

This project ran like a clockwork – professional and error-free. A project can not be achieved more quickly“ said Barry de Klerk, General Manager Operations at CLI Project Logistics (Pty) Ltd. in Cape Town / South Africa.

The John Thompson coal-fired boilers (unit weight: 54 to 65 tons) are used in many different industries inclu-ding the food and beverage, tyre and mining indust-ries. In order to optimise the costing of the transport, the industrial boilers were shipped for the majority of the route as a partial load on a bulk carrier.
