clearwater beach summer project update

Clearwater Beach Summer Project Update I am really excited to write this update and share with you all that the Lord has been doing down in Clearwater this summer!! This was my 6th summer leading the project in Clearwater and though every summer has been special, this summer was incredible, as God showed up in some amazing ways. From the start, our students had the perspective that they were not on project for themselves but rather to make a difference in the community of Clearwater. They were very outward focused, where sometimes in the past it has been easy for a project to be more inward focused. Almost every event that we did this summer (weekly meetings, social events, etc) had multiple people who were not part of our project joining us! This has been our goal for years, but hasn’t fully materialized until this year. From the first week, we began to see students building relationships with their co-workers and enfold- ing them into the overall community of our project, allowing their co-workers (most of whom do not believe in Jesus) to see the body of Christ at work. Their co-workers were able to see how we love one another, how we serve one another, and how we talk to and about one another. Immediately, co- workers commented that something was different about this group of people and how we interact. As you may know from previous years, the staff team leaves and the students take over leadership for the second half of the summer. I am home, but the project is continuing on in Clearwater as I write this. During the first half of the summer, our staff and students started spiritual conversations with over 300 people, were able to share the Gospel with almost 150 and as of yesterday, we have seen 15 people trust Christ this summer through our project!! Most of these new brothers and sisters in Christ have been co-workers of our students and are now plugged into our community, going to a local church down in Florida and really beginning to grow in their new walks with the Lord. Please pray that God would continue to be at work and would draw many more to Himself during this last half of the project. There are still many co-workers that our students are investing in and praying for who still do not know the Lord. We had 13 students and staff from NCSU in Clearwater this summer!

Please pray for our student leadership team: Caleb, Maegan and Mary Claire. Pray that they would be unified, well respected, and have courage as they lead.

Women’s TimesWomen’s TimesWomen’s TimesWomen’s Times One of the joys of my role each summer in Clearwater is the opportunity to shepherd and lead the women on our project. This happens through the students’ Life Groups (or Bible Studies) and one on one discipleship times. It also happens through weekly women’s times that we have each Thursday night. During those times, we cover the following topics: Identity in Christ and finding our security from Him, coming clean with hidden sin in our lives and living in authentic community to believe what the Bible says is true and to run to Jesus instead of the things of this world to satisfy us, Relationships and Purity and Modesty, and Leaving a Legacy as women in this generation. This summer the women on the project blew me away with their vulnerability with the staff, with each other and with the Lord. I loved watching real transfor-mation happen in their lives as they grew in many of the areas we studied together. Would you pray for the 34 staff and student women—that we would continue to be women of the Word and women who trust Jesus with everything in our lives?

One highlight for me this summer was our staff team that I got to serve alongside. They were so fun to be with and easy to lead. Pictured Left: Jenny (CBSP ‘09 alum and now dear friend), me and Kalynn (my roommate and teammate from NCSU in Raleigh).

What’s Next: After a few days to rest and recover from being “on” 24 hours a day for 7 weeks straight, I am now back in Raleigh and beginning to plan and think about the fall at NC State. I leave on July 14th to fly to Colorado State University for our bi-annual Cru Staff Conference—a week of refreshment in the Word and hearing from our Cru national leaders. July 30-August 4, I’ll be back in Clearwater Beach to debrief with the students and send them off from the summer—back to their campuses to reach their campuses for Christ! And then soon after that, things will start back up at NCSU with our annual fall leaders retreat and thousands of new freshman arriving on campus. Please pray for energy and re-newed vision for me as I jump back into things.

Also, I am still short on my funds for the summer, so if you feel led to give, please visit http://give.ccci.org/give/0520570
