March 2018 PTA Newsletter

Clearbrook Chronicle March certainly came in like a (windy) lion! I can’t help getting excited when I walk into work past the beautiful daffodils that are getting ready to bloom in the wonder garden. It’s a sure sign that spring is right around the corner! March is an exciting, transitional time for the PTA. Lots of activities planned and also the excitement of recruiting new volunteers to help lead next year’s board. I love seeing new faces and hearing new and fresh ideas. Could you be the next leader of the PTA? It’s rewarding, fulfilling, and most of all fun. I have learned so much this year and I wouldn’t trade this experience for anything.

Brooke Carnevali, 2017/2018 PTA President

Principal’s Pen

Dear Parents,

Signs of spring are in the air! Sunday, March 18th daylight saving time begins which will bring later evenings filled with outdoor activities. I encourage families to utilize the Clearbrook playground and tennis courts during the afterschool hours and on weekends for additional exercise or playdates.

As many of you know, Mrs. Williams announced her retirement which was effective on March 2, 2018. During her tenure, she served as an elementary school teacher for 30 years! She has touched the lives of countless children, leaving a lifelong impression. Her wisdom and experience will be sorely missed at Clearbrook. We wish her the best as she begins this new and exciting adventure.

Please help me welcome Bethley Giles to our 1st-grade team! Look for more information about Mrs. Giles in the newsletter. Let’s do our best to make her feel right at home here at Clearbrook. She has such positive energy I know she will take great care of our young people.

Just a friendly reminder, due to inclement weather, Friday, March 30, 2018, will be a regular school day. Spring break will begin on April 2 and end April 6. Please enjoy a safe, relaxing, and fun-filled week with your family.

We have a new face

at Clearbrook!

My name is Bethley Giles and I am

so excited to be the new 1st Grade

teacher here at Clearbrook

Elementary!

I can’t wait to get started, but first

I wanted to give you a little

background about myself. I

earned my bachelor’s degree in

English from Virginia Tech in 2002.

In December 2017, I earned a

master’s degree in elementary

education from Old Dominion

University. I completed

internships at several schools in

Roanoke County, including Cave

Spring Elementary, W.E. Cundiff,

and right here at Clearbrook!

Most recently, I have worked as a

substitute teacher and math tutor

for Roanoke City Schools.

I live in Mount Pleasant with my

husband, our daughter Katie, our

dog Scooby, and our rabbit

Cadbury. When I’m not in the

classroom, I love reading and

exploring new places with my

family.

Please contact Mrs. Howell at [email protected] if you

can help with student shopping or setting up!

mailbox. This mailbox was donated by Mrs. Sherry Schaaf. Alora

is pictured below with our new mailbox. A special Clearbrook thank

you to Mrs. Schaaf for this fabulous addition to Clearbrook. Also,
