The firts electric buses in Warsaw

We received two valid offer from the companies:

BYD Europe and Solaris Bus & Coach S.A.

As a result of, a rather complicated, procedure (appeal, cancellation,

appeal and court) was selected the offer of Solaris.

In 2015, MZA Ltd. signed the Contract for the delivery of 10 electric

buses made by SOLARIS

Ec – the total electrical energy consumed by the bus is the sum of

the power collect from the battery Ez and the energy Eo a

regenerating during the recuperation process was calculated

according to the formula:

Ec = Ez + η * Eo

where:

Ez - electric energy collect from the battery [VAs];

Eo - regenerative electric energy fed back into the battery [VAs];

η - energy efficiency of battery charging, the value specified by

the manufacturer of the battery, if data is missing, the value of

80% is taking into account, and this information is giving in the

test report.

cleaner air:3 ways to purchase or procure it

Jos Streng, City of Rotterdam

Page 28: Clean Vehicles & Services Procurement in Practice

Look at trips made and corresponding emissions caused by:

1. The fleet of duty vehicles you buy2. The transport services you buy3. Delivery of goods and services you buy

and realize that, as a buyer, you can influence all of these.

3 ways to clear the air

01

• Vehicle profiles / duty cycles that appear to work

• Vehicles where there is an appropriate alternative

Identify the vehicle opportunity

• Carry out whole life cost analysis vs ICE

• Factor in grants and tax benefits

Understand the costs & benefits • Ensure drivers are

educated, informed and enthusiastic!

• Consider specific efficient driver training to improve range

Driver acceptance

• How and where to re-charge

• Duty cycle and route optimisation

Operational considerations

04

Page 47: Clean Vehicles & Services Procurement in Practice

1. Analyse vehicle duty cycles –

mileage, utilisation, storage, rest

periods

2. Match vehicles to meet business

requirements

3. Consider organisation culture and

policies

4. Anticipate the pitfalls – right vehicle

for the job

Operational considerations03

1. How and where will vehicles be

4. Use of telematics to optimise duty cycles

and efficiency

5. Financing vehicles – outright purchase

Driver acceptance04

1. Consider incentives beyond tax

2. Ensure a positive driver experience

3. Provide EV driver training to

5. Ensure expectations are managed

e.g. PHEVs for high mileage driving

Charging

The bus can be charged I a number of different ways and there are pro and cons

with all of them.

Compromises that has to be conceded:

Passenger capacity Vs. Battery weight

Driver/bus utilization Vs. Charging time

Cost for fast charging stations Vs. Battery cost

To ensure interoperability between

vehicle and chargers a number

OEM´s have agreed

an open common interface.

The agreement includes an

It is not only about

the bus.

There is a huge

potential to

make the bus ride

more popular!

Challenge

We believe that future city buses will have electrical propulsion.

The only question is

at what pace this will

happened.

The challenge is how

the city can utilize

the advantages with

low noise and no

local exhaust

emissions?
