To those gifted with choosing disciples,

I’ve always wanted to be a preacher, even as a little boy something inside me, (which I now refer to as the yearning of the Holy Spirit), told me I should teach people about God. But, as a true prodigal, I went my own way to live life on my terms or so I thought. Life is never on your terms even when you are convinced you are living the “American Dream” also known as selling your soul, time and effort all to get ahead. I often wondered, ahead of what? Seems you’re always behind when Jesus isn’t in front. That was me, running in the rat race with no time for church, family or myself. Life wasn’t what I thought it could be, until I met the Bride of Christ. She loved me and allowed me to take a deep, fresh breath of redemptive air, patiently introducing me to the true meaning of engagement, piercing my ear to Jesus Christ and continually re-establishing what it looks like to love, be loved and experience abundant life.

God led me into immersive ministerial education and then plunged me into the pulpit. After eighteen years, I’ve learned preaching isn’t a vocation; fishing for men is a calling. Loving your neighbor as yourself isn’t a concept; it’s a lifestyle. Bringing people to Christ isn’t just fulfilling His mission, it’s an engaged Bride’s heart’s desire.

My passion has grown to encompass all walks of life and met people’s needs right where they stand in the moment. But the full embodiment of Christ demands I call them out of their moment and into a fruitful future, no matter what the cost. Walking along side people while they do this thing called life, is exactly what Jesus did and what I so passionately yearn to mimic. My soul deepest desire as an evangelist is to bring bounty to His church, and while being in the pulpit is a gift, I believe there is abundant life to be had by washing feet. There is never a more humbling experience than when the world treats you like the servant you are called to be and never a greater feeling of wealth;

knowing Jesus is right beside you as you clean the tootsies of the world. I believe being humble is exceedingly important for church growth and therapeutic salve to the world. And, I trust it lends me open to His calling for missions and leadership development.

As time passes, I am certain the Potter’s wheel turns in ways I never could have imagined; constantly transforming me into the person He’s calling me to be. I continually try to be in tune with His hands on the image He is creating of me. By design, it is never quite how I thought it would happen but it is always spectacular to look back and see the outcome of His process. He is always shaping and molding His impression into me and overtime has led me to realize He is calling me to inspire, lead and develop families to long to see His face; teaching them to learn how to do abundant life together. Counseling, guiding and fundamentally structuring their foundations to be God focused; alluring them into the dynamics of communal living through small groups.

I learned some time ago, that if God is calling, I should listen when He speaks. I thirst for Kingdom growth, with people that want to be a part of something bigger than themselves; a place where faith is without borders, never limiting God in His design of Kingdom advancement. Thus, I am being Spirit led to submit my resume’ to Rugby Avenue Church of Christ. It is an exciting time for you and an exhilarating time for me to see what He does when He clasp’s our hands together and we run toward Kingdom greatness.

Childhood and Conversion:I was born in 1963 and raised in the Tulsa Oklahoma area. My family was nominally Christian until we moved to Enid where I became involved in a youth group, thus began my path of following after Him. One year later, in 1977,I came to Christ under the Godly leadership of our youth minister and was baptized.

Calling:My calling to full-time ministry was born out of my own struggle to know the Scriptures. It was difficult to understand the truth of God’s Word, but I felt compelled to search the Bible for answers and prayed for comprehension.Once the truth was firmly planted on my soul, I conveyed my desire to preach and teach the word to my wife Julie and my children Ashley and Alexis. The rest is His story; I continue to walk by His side and disciple others on their spiritual journey

Philosophy of Ministry

I believe in a relational style of ministry because people are creatures of habit. They need you to meet them right where they are in life and relate to them

using whatever method it takes to get to meet their current level.Establishing rapport and bonding allows for a relationship to foster

It doesn’t matter what the commonality, if you want to talk to folks about Jesus you have to take a genuine interest in them.

But, I can only love others if I first experience Christ’s love by abiding in Him.Therefore, I nurture my relationship with God; spending time with Him in study and prayer.

As I pursue Him, it becomes natural to engage in relationships. His quest is for me to share His undying love and forgiveness while teaching the world to do the same.

Similarly, God revealed Himself to me through a caring mentor who took the time to listen. I have chosen to do the same

and am humbled He called me to pursue ministry as a full-time vocation. The privilege is breathtaking to say the least ~ there are moments ~

it still leaves me speechless...

My three passions in life :To love God above anyone or anything

To love my family and the people God brings into my lifeTo introduce and encourage people into a love relationship with Jesus Christ, our Father

Statement of Faith

I Believe…

The Bible is God's revealed Word. It was written by men as they were inspired to do so by The Holy Spirit.

The Word of God is without error and is truth. It tells us who God is, why He loves us, and what His plans are for us.

The Bible is the authority or standard for living our lives according to His will for us.

There is only one true God. He is the Creator of all life and the Supreme Ruler of the universe. He is eternal and co-exists equally in three Persons:

God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit.

Jesus Christ is the one and only Son of God who came to earth, being fully man while wholly God, for the purpose of showing God’s love by taking on

and paying the penalty for man’s sins by death on the cross. His resurrection from the grave is testimony to the fact He is the King of

kings and Lord of lords and will return for His bride, the Body of Christ called the Church.

The Holy Spirit is co-equal with God the Father and God the Son. He dwells in every member of God's family as a Helper and Guide.

It is through the conviction of the Holy Spirit that a person comes to salvation.

Only at salvation does the Holy Spirit come to live in our physical bodies as His home. He provides counsel to every Christian guiding them to do what

is right, strengthening them to serve Jesus, and directing them for living daily life, God's way.

Sin separates us from God who deeply desires relationship with us. It is impossible for any man to restore that broken relationship with God by any amount of personal goodness, religious deeds, money or by belonging to a church. We cannot earn, merit or achieve a right relationship with God by our own efforts. God's plan from the beginning was to save us from our sins through the death of Jesus Christ. The Bible calls God's act of love -

grace… His grace is an eternal gift of love to us.We receive this atoning gift by entering into salvation through a covenant relationship with Jesus by placing our trust and faith in Him and obeying

His command to believe in His life, His death and His promises, confessing the sin we’ve committed against Him to others, repenting of our sinful ways

and then be immersed into water; a baptism into His death, burial and resurrection to receive the gift of the physical indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

To Whom It May Concern

This letter is written on behalf of Mike Barnes who is the pulpit minister for the Fairlawn Church of Christ in Muncie, Indiana. He has served in that capacity since June of 2007.I am a former elder who has been a member of the congregation for many years including His tenure.

During his time here I have watched Mike grow tremendously in his ability to communicate God's Word to others. He is a great student of the Bible and has a thirst for knowledge about the Scriptures. Mike has a wonderful ability to express the truth of God's Word in a practical manner that challenges his listeners to examine their lives and evaluate if what is being said is applicable to them. His communication style is pleasant and easy-going. He is able to get his points across without being loud and bombastic. Personally, I have gained a great deal spiritually by his being at Fairlawn. He is a tireless worker and has put forth great effort to make our congregation more evangelistic and service oriented.

In his personal life, Mike genuinely strives to put the principles of the Scriptures into practice in all areas of his life. Greater than that, however, is his desire to know Christ and serve him in any capacity that will benefit the kingdom of God. Mike truly has a heart for God.

He also possesses a warm and engaging personality along with a fine sense of humor that enables him to relate to and work well with others.

Mike's family life is solid and in good order. He has a wonderful, supportive wife and two fine college age daughters.

I would be more than happy to provide any additional information you might find helpful or to discuss Mike's time at Fairlawn if you so desire. Feel free to contact me at either of the numbers listed below.

Clyde Hague Deacon: Family Involvement 6108 West Bethel Avenue Muncie, IN 47304

January 22, 2009Sunset International Bible InstituteAttn: Kevin Haynes-Director of Continuing Education

Mr. Haynes,As a deacon, representing Fairlawn Church of Christ, I would like to present my endorsement of Mike Barnes, our minister, for admittance into the Sunset International Bible Institute Master of Biblical Studies Program.Mike has served our congregation since June, 2007. When Fairlawn was beginning our minister search, I was asked to serve on the committee. My role was to help review applications, make initial contacts with potential candidates, arrange for visits and conduct interviews. The eldership and committee would follow up during a visit with extensive interviews, fellowship and of course the traditional teaching of a class and sermon presentation to the congregation.Characteristics we desired in a new minister included:

A love of GodStrong knowledge and grounding in the scripturesA positive, caring outlook for people and a strong interest in their salvation Family counseling training and experience

When I first spoke with Mike, it was apparent that he was more interested in showing Christ to others than telling me how right he was. That initial interview lasted quite a while and left a very positive impression on me. We arranged for Mike and his family to visit as soon as possible.During their visit to Fairlawn, the eldership, search committee and congregation came away with the same impression that I had. Mike was the standout of our applicants and met our desires in a minister. He and his family moved to Muncie and began working with the congregation in June, 2007.Since his arrival, Mike has shown himself to be a tireless servant of God. He spends countless hours serving. A few examples of his skills and serving are:

His approach to teaching and preaching is to guide the listener into a realization of what they can do in their life to serve God better. His presentation of scripture is not out of context and his ability to communicate in a non-offensive manner is one of his key abilities.

He is active in counseling our singles, couples and families and reaching out to the community. He is continually encouraging our congregation to grow in Christ and show others the way.He serves as a minister at Muncie’s Ball Memorial Hospital, spending countless hours ministering to the ill.The impressions he leaves on visitors and members of our community are universally positive.Mike continually is involved in bible studies showing others the way to salvation and encouraging all Christians to do the same.

While these are just a few examples, I trust they will serve to show how Mike Barnes can easily be recommended for the Master of Biblical Studies Program. If you have any additional questions, feel free to contact me. In Christ, Clyde Hague

RE: Letter of Recommendation for Mike

Barnes To Whom It May Concern:

As a person who has known Mike and his wonderful family for many years I can say with great confidence, two things. First, Mike himself is a good man that is dedicated to the Lord and to His work. He has a heart for preaching and has proven he is good at it. This Masters program is for him and I am sure he will do well. Second, Mike has the support of his family that is second to none. His girls, (all three) are a delight and walk with him on his journey to win souls where ever they go.

A great family and a great student. You will not do

better. Sincerely,

Bob McKinnon
