Billy is a very special dog with a

heartbreaking past. He was

brought to us bloody and beaten,

starving, and had just been

attacked with a machete across

his face and nose. He was in

such bad shape he barely even

had a nose. Dr Flavi was able to

help Billy and thanks to our

dedicated team of volunteers and

staff, Billy was given all the love

and attention he deserved.

It’s a joy to have witnessed his

transformation to the happy,

friendly and loving fellow he is

now. However, he is extremely

timid and wary of strangers. Due

to his traumatic history, Billy

will remain with us at his

forever ZAASO home, and is in

need of your gift of sponsorship.

eyes, Sinatra was sterilized

by ZAASO. Came the time to

release him, he point-blank

refused. He wouldn’t get out

of the carrier, or he wouldn’t

get in it. Several attempts

later, we got the message.

Elvis is an exceptionally friendly, sweet and endearing fellow. Dropped off at our gate with nothing – no explanation and nobody around – the poor dog was malnourished and covered from head to toe in ticks. Despite his condition, Elvis greeted us with a wagging tail and a trusting look. Today, he is in excellent health, and we’re happy to finally give him the care every dog deserves.

Rescued together, theirs is a love story with a difficult beginning, and yet happy ending. They endured abusive conditions for years - Eric still has the scar around his neck from the tight chains that were bound around him. In an attempt to protect Amina, Eric would stand in front of her, allowing himself to receive the worst of the beatings. If that’s not love, then what is?

Eric and Amina now live together happily at ZAASO. Despite their past, they are a people-loving duo with gentle and sweet personalities. Nevertheless, due to their traumatic history, they are not available for adoption but they are in need of sponsors.

Milo is one of those cats that just

can’t get enough attention. He

loves people and likes to be best

friends with everyone he meets.

He was brought to us with a

severely burned front leg, and our

only option was to amputate.

Thankfully, this certainly didn’t

diminish his spirit or his large

personality, and he is doing great

on three legs. Sadly, Milo’s

owners refused to take him back

after he lost his leg. This resilient

cat is now a part of our ZAASO

family and is in need of

sponsorship.

Meet Sarah. She arrived only a few

days ago at ZAASO, brought by

children who said she “wasn’t well”.

Besides malnutrition, the state of

her body showed poorly healed cuts

and scarring. It was quickly

ascertained from the kids that

Sarah was used as a fighting dog.

She was utterly terrified and could

barely walk, so badly was she

trembling with fear. Our volunteer

Sarah (after whom she is named)

was so moved, she took the

trembling dog into her care. We

bought Sarah from the kids;

probably not the best policy, but we

couldn’t face sending her back to

where she came from.

ZAASO cares about all animals. Some are

healthy and loved and only need our vet’s

attention from time to time, others are

abandoned or rescues.

Our “orphans” are those who cannot be rehomed;

trauma and abuse count for the overwhelming

majority of these. Fortunately, some of our

permanent residents are sponsored or co-sponsored,

but our “orphans” are those who are not, and who are

in need of a caring sponsor or sponsors.

Sponsorship is for food, shelter & medical care.

Suggested amount per month:

$70 for orphan dog

$50 for orphan kitty

$50 for orphan horse

Any funds remaining are used for the care of the

many rescues that come to ZAASO.

Our latest arrival a few days ago is tiny Sikio (right).

She was found being drowned in a ditch. When she’s

healthy and old enough, we will look to home her.
