Day 1: Arrive NairobiUpon arrival into Nairobi, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Afternoon at leisure.

Day 2: Nairobi to Masai MaraLeaving Nairobi after breakfast, travel towards Kenya’s fertile highlands and head down the Rift Escarpment. Reach the Masai Mara in time for lunch and an afternoon game drive.

Day 3: Masai MaraA Maasai village visit and early morning and afternoon game drives in the fabulous Maasai Mara.

WEATHER/WHEN TO GO

Sitting on the equator, Kenya’s climate is based upon altitude. Kenya offers warm days and cool, early mornings and evenings throughout most of the country. At higher altitude the temperatures are moderate. The Coast is often humid and tropical. There are two primary rainy seasons: the long rains roughly from April to June and the short rains during October and November.

The Great Migration occurs in Masai Mara from June through November, with the middle months being the most intense.

DOCUMENTATION

US citizens are required to buy a visa on arrival and the cost is currently 50usd, payable in USD cash (ideally with crisp bills no more than 5 years old). Multiple entry visas are required for those entering Kenya more than once, and transit visas are required for those who will leave the airport’s transit area for the day.

CURRENCY

The Kenyan shilling is freely exchangeable, and most major facilities accept major credit cards. US dollars are accepted almost everywhere, but the rate of exchange will vary.

LANGUAGE AND PEOPLE

TheofficiallanguageofKenyaisSwahili,butEnglishisspokenwidelyincommercial areas, and people in the tourism industry all speak English. Kenyans are outgoing, welcoming and optimistic people who love to have a chat and share stories. They laugh easily, love a good joke, and don’t take life too seriously.

MEDICATIONS

Malaria meds are always optional, but are recommended for Kenya.

Yellowfevercertificatesarenot required for entry to Kenya, unless travelers are coming from a country where yellow fever exists, such as Uganda or Rwanda. Yellow fever vaccinations are generally recommended for areas beyond Nairobi and the Highlands.
