it’s Easter-time, and it’s holiday-time here

in the Bay.

Yes, not all peoples and faiths keep an Easter, but it is Easter. Easter is global – the scripture tells simply that, “Jesus died for the sins of the world;” at Easter. The event of Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection occurred at a given point in time, history if you like; it’s a geographically, chronologically, and seasonally located signifi cant event. Easter’s signifi cant and celebrated globally.

Easter is its own signifi cance, one which can be discovered and engaged. Seems that if we do not set-out to discover and engage the signifi cance that is Easter, we will invest Eastertide with one anyway. Now, if we were in the northern hemisphere its “traditional spring ideas” offer choices of signifi cance

such as; “Easter, it’s a celebration of rebirth; new beginnings after winter; that’s what the word ‘Lent’ really means, spring – new beginnings. It all happens at spring, chicks, birds, bunnies, new fl owers, lambs spring-ing, eggs, new wardrobe . . .” But, we know that last time we looked out a window or at a map, it was obvious, we are in the “deep south” ... its autumn here. The northern-spring choice maybe good-signifi cance, but not global-signifi cance, and “Easter is global.”

So “what’s the Easter-global signifi cance to be discovered and celebrated?” Being compu-ter literate I “Googled” – “What is Easter?” Here’s my non-Wikipedia discovery...

“Easter is the most important festival in the Christian calendar. It celebrates the resurrec-tion from the dead of Jesus, three days after he was executed. The Easter story is at the heart of Christianity. In Easter celebrations there are two important days, Friday and Sunday. Easter Sunday marks Jesus’ resurrec-

tion. After Jesus was crucifi ed on the Friday (now known as Good Friday), his body was taken down from the cross, and buried in a cave tomb. The tomb was guarded by Roman Soldiers and an enormous stone was put over the entrance, so that no-one could steal the body. On the Sunday, Mary Magdalene, fol-lowed later by some of Jesus’ disciples visited the tomb and found that the stone had been moved, and that Jesus’ body had gone. Jesus himself was seen that day by Mary and the disciples and for forty days afterwards by many people. His followers realised that God had raised Jesus from the dead. Christians call this the Resurrection.”

We all experience ‘storms’ in life, and sometimes we’re really knocked by them! An amazing story is told of Jesus sleeping in a boat

right through a storm. His disciples were seasoned fi sh-ermen, but were terrifi ed. It was a big storm! The key question is how Jesus could sleep so peacefully when

It is because He knew His heavenly Father loved Him, and that nothing could therefore happen to Him that was outside of the Father’s will. It was about trust! Trusting God in life makes a big difference. While we all experiences trials, our trust that God is in control, and with us, entirely changes our perspective! But how can we know this? More than just giving promises, the Bible accounts history from four thousand years of history, so we can check God’s track record. Beyond just the idea of security, a basis for believing it is given. God is still around, and He has a plan!

As examples of His promises, He says He works all things for the good of those who love Him. So while sometimes He does make us successful, sometimes

His goal is to make us stronger through failure, or better equipped to help others… Yet in all circumstances He says He cares, He sees, He helps, He takes notes, and He will reward! He has not abandoned us. It simply boils down to trust! Friend – God knows what you are going through and does care. Trust Him. You will get through! “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fi re, you will not be burned; the fl ames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior” (Isaiah 43:2-3).

Easter weekend at Tauranga’s Bethlehem Baptist Church traditionally attracts

visitors from all walks of life, not just those on the Christian path.

Pastor Craig Vernall explains why of all the events in the Christian calendar, Easter is the primary Christian celebration.

“Easter is the dramatic account of Jesus' fi nal days where he was put on trial and killed for his claims to be the Son of God. But the story didn't end at his death for he was raised from the dead three days later.

“The Christian community interprets this event as God’s son dying for our sins and offering us forgiveness and a new life with him.”

As in previous years, the Church’s Easter celebration has been designed to involve the wider community; this year the Church’s creative team have put together a dra-matic presentation titled ‘The Story of the Garden and the Tale of the Risen King’, aiming to appeal to a wide audience.

Using drama, dance and music the weekend will focus on the wrestling that surrounds the Easter story – from Jesus wrestling with his choice, his followers wrestling with their understanding of unfolding events, right through to the modern day when many of us still wrestle to connect with God.

Split into two parts, the fi rst presentation will be on Good Friday during two services, either at 9am or 10.45am with the second part delivered on Easter Sunday also at either 9am or 10.45am.

The Church will also be screening ‘The Passion of the Christ’ at 5.30pm on Good Friday – all families are welcome and the Church will be providing a fun and interactive children’s programme to keep the under 12s entertained.

The greatest outpouring of love released a fi re of grace and mercy

upon the nations of the earth.The Father’s love poured out of a heart of

agape unconditional love for the anguish of man’s sin.

The Father saw the devastation, pain and anguish of those He had created in His image. His merciful heart released unbridled love to woo people into the serenity of His forgiveness. Love and mercy was unleashed by the giving of His precious beloved son, Jesus Christ. The Father gave His son as a

ransom for our sin. Jesus Christ nailed to a cross, crucifi ed, a spear brutally thrust into His side, releasing His blood upon the earth.

This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem Luke 24 v 46.

The blood of Jesus Christ cries out upon the land today for the harvest of souls. Hearts to be cleansed and washed in His blood. Do you hear the Father’s uncondi-tional love of grace calling to you today? A captivating love that washes over your soul

releasing you from the burden and grief of sin. Love that is for all nations to reach out and accept.

It is a free gift. Christ paid for it on the cross. Love as revealed in Jesus, a selfl ess, agape unconditional love that is self-sacrifi c-ing. In a moment you can go from feeling trapped in the prison of your mind to the palace of peace in your heart. Peace and heal-ing can fi lter into the midnight hour of your circumstances.

God alone knows the personal secrets of the heart to enhance with a love encounter that heals the broken frayed edges of

our soul. Jesus Christ suffered death, burial and resurrection and through believing in Him you can have the plans that have died, the treasures that have been buried, resur-rected causing you to ascend in glorious triumph with the fi re of the Holy Spirit.

It is time to light the match for nationwide revival. It is time for fresh fi re to herald the return of our king and for carriers of the fi re to rise up with fresh strength.
