A limerick is a humorous poem consisting of five lines (single stanza) with an AABBA rhyme scheme.

They are often funny or nonsensical. Limericks were made famous by Edward Lear, a famous author

who wrote the "Book of Nonsense" in the 1800's. This was an entire book of silly limericks.

Given below are two examples of limericks.

1) A wonderful bird is the pelican,

His bill holds more than his belican.

He can take in his beak,

Enough food for a week,

But I'm damned if I see how the helican.

2) There was a young lady of Lynn,

Who was so uncommonly thin

That when she essayed

To drink lemonade

She slipped through the straw and fell in.
