CLASS POLICIES AND PROCEDURESPre-Calculus BC

Mrs. Garcia2016 – 2017

Below are the guidelines to help you be successful in this class. Please keep this in your notebook for future reference.

Materials: Paper, graph paper, pencils, calculator, textbook (Pre Calculus 5th Edition by Stewart, Redlin, Watson; replacement cost is $124.97), binder, Leon agenda, and completed homework are required daily.

Grade Computation: Your nine-week grade will be determined in the following manner: Tests, quizzes and homework will all be awarded a certain number of points. All points you earn will be added together, that sum will be divided by the total number of points possible and then that quotient will be multiplied by 100 to yield a final percent. The percent will be converted to letter grades using the county scale. Grades will be available on the web through Pinpoint.

Homework: Homework will be assigned daily and is expected to be completed by the next class period. It is very important that you attempt and complete all homework problems. Assignments will be graded in 2 ways:

1. Typical homework assignments: Assignments will be checked for effort and completion, not for accuracy. In order to receive full credit, every problem must be attempted, all work must be shown, and all problems done in class must be correct on your paper.

2. Class work, graded assignments, or assignments following intensive study: These assignments will be graded similar to test papers, where correctness is essential. Students will be notified ahead of time if an assignment is going to be graded for accuracy.

When doing homework, you must write the problem (except word problems) and show all steps used in obtaining the answer. Never submit just a list of answers. You will not receive credit for answers without work.

NO LATE WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED!

Tests/Quizzes: Tests will be unit tests and will be announced in advance. Tests given in a 50-minute class period must be completed during that class; no extra time will be given. Quizzes may be given sporadically and may or may not be announced ahead of time. Assessments will make up 85 – 90% of your grade.

Cell Phones: In accordance with school policy, the use of cell phones in NOT permitted in the classroom. Cell phones that are found to be in use DURING A TEST OR QUIZ will be confiscated and turned in to the Student Affairs Office and your grade on that assessment will be a zero.

Tardy Policy: Failure to be in your assigned seat when the bell rings will result in an unexcused tardy. After accruing three tardies you will receive a late on your attendance that will count as an unexcused absence. A disciplinary referral will be given if tardies continue to be a problem.

Absences: When you are absent, you are responsible for all work missed, including class notes, quizzes, tests, and homework. It is your responsibility to find out what was missed, turn in that assignment, if applicable, and to make arrangements with me to make up any tests. In order to make up work, an absence MUST BE EXCUSED. Teachers are not required to accept make-up work for unexcused absences. (You may turn assignments in/make up tests but the grade will not be entered until the absence is excused.) For this reason, ON THE DAY YOU RETURN to school you should provide the attendance office with written documentation requesting that your absence be excused. See the school and county attendance policies for a complete list of attendance policies, rules, and expectations.

- In the event that you are absent, you can check the class web page for the daily assignments. The web page will be updated with the current chapters’ assignments by the time we begin the chapter.

- If you miss class because of a field trip, you are required to see me in advance in order to obtain the work you will be missing, so that you will not get behind.

- You will have one day to turn in work for each day that you are absent. Make up work will not be accepted after two weeks. If you are absent only on the day of a test, you will be required to make up that test on the day that you return.

- IF YOU ARE CAUGHT SKIPPING MY CLASS ON THE DAY OF A TEST OR QUIZ YOU WILL RECEIVE A ZERO AND YOUR CITIZENSHIP GRADE WILL BE LOWERED.

Discipline Policy: Inappropriate classroom behavior will not be tolerated. First offense of disruptive behavior: student will get a warning. Second offense: conference with teacher Third offense: phone call to parent and a 30-minute lunch detentionFourth offense: Disciplinary Referral

All disciplinary problems will be followed in accordance with the Leon County Schools Code of Conduct.

No food or drink will be allowed in the classroom. Use of cell phones at inappropriate times, eating, drinking, tardiness, or inappropriate behavior will negatively affect citizenship grades.

Academic Integrity: Academic integrity violations can include plagiarism, cheating, and unauthorized group work on any assignment, project, or test. If a student is caught the following will occur:

The student will receive an F with zero credit. The citizenship grade will be lowered for the grading period. A notice will be recorded with the guidance office.

Any occurrence of academic dishonesty may be reported by the guidance office on college admissions applications.

Math Resources: Math Nation, Pearson, and Khan Academy are all great math resources. I will show you how to access these sites over the next couple of weeks.

Extra Help: See me after school most days until 2:30, find a classmate who you can call or text for extra help, get help from the Pierian chapter of the National Honor Society Tuesday and Thursday after 6th or 7th periods in Room 302, get help from Mu Alpha Theta (Math Honor Society) students every day during lunch in Room 311, ask me for recommended personal tutor.
